I am getting tired of the cold weather at home, so we are looking into a weekend golf trip to Santee, SC. The courses we have currently selected are Lake Marion, Santee National and Santee Cooper Country Club. I have never played in this area before. Anyone have experience playing in this area or any of these courses? Any recommendations for additional courses, food or nightlife in the area?

I shot my career best 81 today. 43 on the front and 38 on the back. Hoping more good golf is coming.

I have the Skycaddie SG5 and I am very happy with it. The best selling point when I was buying last year was the availability of course maps in my area. The skycaddie had far more of my local courses available than any other unit. Each manufacturer's website will show you the courses available in your area. I really liked the Callaway Upro, but out the 12-15 local courses I frequent, it only had a coulple available. I have had my SG5 for a year now and I have no complaints. It is nice to know that anytime I travel out of state to new courses knowing that the maps are most always available. I really think any of the namebrand units will do an excellent job, just make sure the units fits your needs. It is my understanding however, that the apps for the smartphones are not as accurate as most standalone units (see other posts on this site).

I shot 88 the first round today and 86 the second round. The wind was terrible, but not a bad day.

I play what I think works the best for me. I play Callaway woods, Cobra irons, Cleveland wedges and an Odyssey putter. I have upgraded to everything in my bag at different times. I am not against playing all one brand, but I have never played or seen any brand that I like from top to bottom.

I carry a 50 degree Cobra Gap Wedge and a 54 degree and 58 degree Cleveland CG14. The 54 is without a doubt my favorite club in the bag. The Clevelands are great clubs. Great feel from the fairway and the bunkers.

Playing the Top Flite Gamers. Really good ball for my level at a great price. Bites greens better than any other ball that I have tried in that price range.

Pride 2 3/4" tees with the yellow stripe so that I always tee the same height & ZF 1 1/2" tees for fariway woods and irons.
