  1. I voted better, I had a lesson yesterday, my instructor asked me what I wanted to work on and I told him I wasn't playing great off the tee and was hooking it a fair bit. He watched my swing a couple of times then made a minor change to my grip and then I hit 10 perfect shots in a row - even he seemed impressed by how good they were and he said lets put the driver away it can only get worse from here. It remains to be seen if they'll be that consistent on the course.
  2. I played for a while when I was younger without any lessons and was never very good, now that I've taken it up again recently and am taking it a little more seriously I've been taking lessons. I think it's well worth it even if it's just a couple of lessons as having some of the basics in place seems to make such a big difference and I feel like I'm improving much faster than if I just try to figure it out myself. On a related note I play a fair bit of tennis and I really wish I'd had lessons when I was younger, without solid technique under pressure my strokes can break down whereas this doesn't seem to happen so much to people who learned correctly right from the beginning.
  3. Average drive on the range about 220/230 with a 3 wood. Average drive on the course around 130 with a 3 wood due to all the duff shots.
  4. I didn't know about this rule and had just been playing an approximate drop where I thought the ball was. I've improved a little now but earlier on I don't think I was carrying enough balls in my bag to hit another ball off the tee every time I thought I'd lost a ball. I think I'll have to go back and put an asterix by some of my previous score cards which weren't looking too healthy to begin with!
  5. I'm in the same situation that the OP describes, I'm a relative beginner and can play every day. I've been having a lesson a week, playing a couple of full rounds and the rest of time on the range and chipping green. This strategy has knocked about 10 strokes off my score so far quite quickly, I do practise driving at the range a lot albeit with a three wood as this is the area that has the least consistency in my game at the moment.
  6. I'd been using a similar strategy and I've also been looking to break 100, I've decided to change this now because I want to improve and don't want to be scared of pulling out a wood on the tee. I did this yesterday and despite quite a few bad drives on the first nine that I could've hit further than with a pitching wedge it got better on the back nine with three fairly long drives in the fairway which felt very satisfying.
  7. I'm fairly new to golf so my current goal is to break 100 and this is including all the lost balls and duff shots that I currently have on a round which occasionally get overlooked at the moment :)
