I loaned a few thousand to a good friend of mine from high school a few years back. No paperwork or formality at all. Not only that, this guy was having marital problems and had multiple DUIs. I was very stressed but felt I had to do it. Ultimately he paid me back faster than I expected and I'm very glad I was able to help him through a tough time. I was prepared to lose the money though.

The room was full of pregnant women with their partners. The class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly and was telling the men how to give the necessary assurance to their partners at this stage of the pregnancy. She said "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier." Just take several stops and stay on a soft surface like grass or a path. She looked at the men in the room, "and Gentlemen, remember -- You're in this together -- It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her. The room suddenly got very quiet as the men absorbed this information. Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand. "Yes, answered the Instructor." I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?? This kind of sensitivity just can't be taught..

The LA county courses send out fivesomes (the city doesn't). So I did mean threesomes in that case.

We're stuck always playing on Saturday and Sunday. And on Los Angeles area public courses that means 5 hour rounds. If we do manage to go off as a twosome (rare) we will usually be caught. So it's not like she really melts down with strangers. In fact normally after a few holes our new partners are just part of the round and all is good. It's just the joining that is weird for her (I swear I will never understand women). She really gets pissed if I say we should invite the threessome behind us to join. And she is normally about the least shy person in the world.

Thanks Sean, is that what you would do? I'm trying to convince her that it is very basic that we should always invite them to join.

I maintain on a busy day that is almost mandatory if we go off as a twosome and a twosome catches up to us (due to the slower play ahead) that we invite them to join us. She still gets a little tense with strangers but 99.9% of the time the folks paired with us are very nice (who can't be nice when golfing?). If they want to say no to us then that's no problem but I think it's the responsibility of the twosome in front to ask the single or twosome trailing to join. Anybody ever take their doggie on the course? We're going to a resort in Fallbrook next week-end and bringing the dogs and hiking is always a part of our stay. I'm wondering how bad it would be if we stopped by the condo on our way to the back 9 and picked em up. This course is particularly quiet and I doubt we'd run across many people. We could tether them to the cart if and when we encounter people Am I crazy?
