  1. Ahh geez, I was only off a couple letters! All fixed now. Thanks!
  2. Well, I'm one of those guys who likes the Laphroaig. Another fav is Lagavulin. Down to less than a quarter bottle of 12yr Glenmorangie Port Finish now. Time to restock!
  3. I had the FJ Greenjoy's and while they seemed comfortable, my feet were always tired after walking the front nine (very very hilly course here) so I opted to spend some $$$ and got the Nike Sp-6's. I got the shoes 3 days ago, and wore them while cart golfing to help break them in a bit. This morning I walked the front 9 again, and for the first time, never even thought about my feet! In fact, it was not until the 9th hole that I even realized my feet weren't tired or sore and that the new shoes were really comfy. I was really worried about them since I tried some cheapo Nike $40-$50 golf shoes and couldn't stand them. swore off Nike shoes until my pro shop turned in to a Nike Pro shop and brought in a bunch of inventory. I figured, what the heck, try some good shoes. Now, I'm really glad I did!
  4. In response to the losing your swing portion, I've found myself wondering what happened to that great golf swing last week. Once analyzing a few things, it's usually something grip related. Either different thumb position, or a weaker left hand grip, club handle too much in the palm, etc. Set things back to how I normally grip, and the swing comes back fine. Every now and then I also tend to let my left arm get out from my body causing that dreaded out-to-in slice swing! I remind myself to pull it in, and things work again. I've yet to get "good", but I started this game in May of 06, having never golfed before, (I'm 40) so almost a year now. Initial goal was "double par", then reaching the green in par. I was a 28 handicap at the end of last year, and thru judicious practice, I am down to 16.7 at last posting. No means good, but getting better. I'm confident enough now, to be able to play with any golfer at my course, and know I won't embarass myself too much. I start my first league this Thursday, and I've found that when I play a round of golf with better players, it forces me to be a better player, and is usually reflected in my scores. Just as long as I don't let myself get discouraged when I see these guys make perfect shots one after the other! I'm looking forward to the league helping me to better my game with the exposure to different calibers of golfers. I hate being the guy that has to spend a few minutes digging thru the rough to find his ball, or having to split off from the group to a different fairway to hit back. I take a little more time, and control to keep the ball in play, and while I may sacrifice a little yardage, the ball gets in the hole with fewer strokes.
  5. Great info! Thanks. I think we are looking at Virginia Beach as our 2nd location to visit. Just kind of pulled it off the map. We'd like to see the Atlantic Ocean and spend a liitle time there on a beach. I'll start checking in on those courses. Thanks again.
  6. Hello, we're planning a trip back to D.C. this summer (hot, I know) and would like some input on which courses would be good to look out for. I'm a higher handicap (19), my wife and son are both less experienced than me, but we really want to find somewhere to play back there. We'd also like to spend a few days over on the Atlantic coast sightseeing and playing more golf so if there are recommendations within an easy drive of the D.C. area, let us know. We're not looking to break the bank so $300/ea green fees are out, but wouldn't mind $150 or under. If anyone knows of a good hotel to stay at in the D.C. area, let us know too. Can always hop the metro, but the last place we stayed at there was NOT very nice so we want to be a little more cautious this time. I plan on talking to a travel agent this week as well, but figured I'd hit the golfers net up for some advise too!
  7. Well, I played today. Almost wish I hadn't but heck, need to start the new year off right! It was miserable out there. Temp was ~29f, but 6-10mph wind chill dropped it severely. To make matters MUCH worse, I had no gloves today, and by the 3rd hole I could no longer feel the clubs. By the time we finished 9 holes, fingertips felt like they were cracking with every swing, hands were bright red and I couldn't make a fist. Needless to say, I shot my worst round in over 6 months! So, I've officially had my worst round of the year! It can only go up from here! (I hope!!)
  8. http://www.brydencanyongolf.net/ If you open it with Internet Explorer, it will give you a hole by hole option which is pretty nice. Doesn't work with my Firefox browser though.
  9. Distance is definitely off, but what gets me most, is the rock solid concrete feeling greens! I hit a beauty from 165yds the other day, right on the front of the green, it bounced about 20ft high and flew over the whole thing! It's taking some getting used to, to not try and hit the greens. Have to hit short, and then baby it on, or there's no chance for the ball to stay up. Hitting the fairways are the same way. Rock solid frozen ground, and NO divots at all. Irons just bounce. Made for an awesome tee shot though. The ball landed off the tee at the 250 yd mark, and then bounced and rolled out another 60yds! But hey, I still love it. Played Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and will get out there today as well. Temps have been in the 20's-low 30's, and are right now, 29 degrees, and not expected to get any higher today. as long as the winds stay away, it'll be a good round!
