  1. I've also just realized how key this 'tempo' thing is. When it's off my swing is almost always over the top. I was at the range today looking for a cure and began focused on nothing else but tempo, and making sure my hips started the downswing, and it worked. Next time I'm on the course I hope I can keep my tempo smooth. I'm beginning to realize that swing thoughts about all this mechanical swing stuff doesn't work.
  2. 93. Made no putts and lost a few balls to 'nowhere'. Finally getting the driver going :D
  3. This happens to me too often. For me I doubt it has anything to do with warming up though, as opposed to poor play. I usually warm up with a few light swings just to loosen up. Then some upper body stretchs, and a few squats to warm up the legs.
  4. I use the standard grip. None of the other grips feel comfortable for me, and I don't have too much trouble with keeping putts in line. Now speed and reads are a whole other story.
  5. That's something I'm trying to work on. Keeping the V between the hands pointed at my chest for the beginning of the swing. My arms get noticeably ahead of where they should be because I don't make the correct shoulder turn.
  6. Hello! I have been reading this forum a lot and feel that I have learned much about the golf swing, yet have much more to learn. I started playing about 3 or 4 years ago and have had no lessons. I feel I have a decent understanding of the golf swing, and can see many faults in my swing, but I'd definitely trust the collective expertise of this board over my own. I have been having most of my trouble with the driver (bad hooks), but today at the range I slowed down the tempo of my backswing and it seemed to help me make much better contact. Anyways, here is my swing for your analysis: I included a video of my 3 wood because it's actually one of my better clubs, which one might think is odd because my driver is my worst, and the swings should be fairly similar. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  7. This tip helped me mostly with my balance with tee shots. My tempo was too fast causing the timing of my swing to go awry, and I noticed I was always off balance. I decided to slow down to make sure I became set at the top before going into the downswing and voila, I became more balanced, and started making better contact.
  8. For me it was definitely course management. Until I started playing smarter instead of attempting shots I had no business trying, I never seemed to be able to shoot lower scores. It also took away a lot of frustration I had when I did try some hero shot and failed miserably. It definitely helped the mental aspect of my game, and took a lot of pressure off of myself by taking the easier shots. It's a lot better than trying to flight a huge hook in between trees into a front pin guarded by a bunker from 180 yards, which of course ricochets of the first tree and bounces back 30 yards into the woods. Ball-striking, or short game, or driving are things that take a lot of time and practice to improve, and things I was solely focused on. I didn't realize how many shots I could save by committing myself to managing the course and my shots properly.
  9. Out of nowhere I bombed a 300 yarder (with some wind behind) right down the middle of the fairway. Drive of my life.
