How do you know when its time to upgrade
hypergolf replied to Brooklyn's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I know a guy at my local club who has been using his set for 10 years... Still likes it and plays in the mid to high 70's. Except for an occassional lie angle adjustments, I think he will keep playing them till they are really worn out... -
I was watching Phil putt. He seems like he plays with slight open stance almost like a chipping position but ball forward. Could anyone verify this? Tks.

Ping putter loft and lie angle
hypergolf replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Found the standard loft which is 3* but could not find the lie angle. Is it 70* or 71*? Thanks. -
I don't think you can really work the ball with your current SUMO driver either no? I usually work the ball with my 3 wood if I really have to but 99% of the time I don't really work the ball off the tee... If you really must have a smaller driver that is Titleist then maybe go for the older versions of the driver? My friend uses 983K and he still hits about the same distance as the newer 460cc drivers. (His driver distance is roughly at a respectable distance of 280-290 meters with the older, smaller head Titleist and that should be plenty of pop even for mordern day course ^_^)

It won't be released.

What is the standard (Black Dot) lie angle and loft of Ping putter? I couldn't find it on their website. And does red dot meand 0.75* less than black dot putter lie angle? Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for the info but could you give me the link to where you got the info on swingweights? It kind of doesn't make sense that swing weights are so different. All should be about the same swing weight therefore the adjustment in weight and length no? I just want to read up the whole thing before making any changes. Thanks.

I thought extending my putter shaft would not have much effect on the performance but here is what I found out. I extended 1 inch on my Scotty Cameron Newport 2 about 2 weeks ago and have been playing for a while to get used to it. I used to average about 32-33 putts per game and now I am going over 40... I can't seem to get the distance right and tend to over putt by a lot. It has been 2 weeks already and I am still putting like this ever since the shaft extension. Is this normal and if so how long before I get adjusted to the new length and swing weight? Has anyone experienced this or am I being sensitive... Thanks...

Which is easier to hit Mp-57 or R7 TP
hypergolf replied to Beach Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Both solid clubs. TM has a clicker feel vs Mizuno has a softer feel. Ease of use is pretty similar. You won't go wrong with either one or the other. -
What is considered low torque for driver shafts, fairwaywood and hybrids? From my understanding low torque for driver is 3.5 or below. For fairway it is 3.2 or below. For hybrid it is 2.8 or below. Does this sound right or am I completely off? Also I see some premium shafts like Diamana have higher torque compared to some other shafts of a similar launch characteristic so what does this really accomplish in a shaft? From my knowledge I also understand that higher torque is for smooth swingers with mid to slow tempo and lower torque for hard hitters with fast tempo. Is this correct? Also any low handicappers/pros playing with higher torque driver, fairwaywood, hybrid shafts? I know what a torque is so please do not write the definition of a torque but rather please share your experiences. Thanks.

Ping G10 Driver, Fairwaywood, Hybrid. Mizuno MP-T 53* and 58* wedge.

Unless you leave the clubs in extreme hot or cold weather, club heads or shafts don't go "stale" unless they are physically broken. Check Wishon's website and you will get all the answers regarding this topic.

Mizuno MP-57 irons. Has Anyone Tried Them?
hypergolf replied to shortgame85's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
MP57 has similar forgiveness as 755 IMO. Feel is softer in the MP57 where as 755 is clickier althogh both are forged. MP57 is slightly higher launch than 755 but no negetive effect on distance. Almost similar to MP60 but with more forgiveness but slight sacrifice on the 'feel' section but not much difference. I prefer the looks and workability of MP60 but overall MP57 will be an excellent choice. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8634 -
Can you predict which clubs will be given the Editor's Choice for 2008 Golf Digest Hot List? Select one club from each of the following categories: 1. Driver 2. Fairwaywood 3. Hybrid 4. Game Improvment Irons 5. Super Game Improvement Irons 6. Player's Irons 7. Wedge 8. Putter: Mallet 9. Putter: Blade 10. Balls: Premium 11. Balls: Non Premium See how many you will get right when it comes out next January. My pick. 1. Driver - G10 2. Fairwaywood - G10 (But Callaways always won this category in the past so the upcoming Callaway Fusion Fairway) 3. Hybrid - Wild guess... Adams? 4. Game Improvment Irons - (Not Decided but should be Callaway) 5. Super Game Improvement Irons - Cobra UFi (But could be Callaway) 6. Player's Irons - Hopefully Mizuno MP57 7. Wedge - So much popularity with Vokey Spin Milled (But performance wise I think Mizuno MP-T) 8. Putter: Mallet - Odyssey Marxman 9. Putter: Blade - Ping Karsten (But perfomance wise Gel Putter) 10. Balls: Premium - Titleist Pro V 11. Balls: Non Premium - Titleist NXT Tour

I have been swinging my club in the following sequence. 1. Back swing with left shoulder. 2. At the end of the back swing, I stay paused for a split second. 3. Hip begin to rotate. 4. I use my LEFT thumb to trigger down swing. 5. Impact with LEFT . 6. My LEFT elbow rotates and LEFT palm faces up. 7. Right shoulder follows straight through. 8. Finish. My friend keeps trying to change my swing saying that it should be the following swing sequence. 1. Same as above. 2. Same as above. 3. Same as above. 4. Use RIGHT hand to feel like you are swing down. 5. Impact with RIGHT . 6. Use RIGHT forearm to rotate and RIGHT palm faces down. 7. Same as above. 8. Same as above. As you can see I emphasize on my LEFT side where as my friend emphasizes on the RIGHT side. Which is right? When I try my friend's swing method I tend to hit the ball really high... Any input is appreciated. Tks.

Driver: could you play without one?
hypergolf replied to RichF's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I played without a driver for 8 months before I bought my 907D2. You can definitely play without a driver. Score is pretty much consistant. Just needed to use longer irons to target green but it was a good training for me. Now that I got a driver I use it about 50% off the tee but the rest of the other 50% with 3 wood and hybrid. -
I totally agree with 907golfer12. 15* or 15.5* 3 wood should not be a problem. 18* or 18.5* 5 wood will work better than 3 wood at high handicap but it is totally up to you. 17* to 19* hybrid can work as well instead of buying any fairwaywoods for now until you drop to consistant mid 90's. So to answer your question, NO you don't have to have a fairwaywood as of now. I know as there are many brands out there so it can get confusing trying to choose a specific one. For high handicappers I would recommend you try the following. Altough F60 is stated on the website that it fits from beginner to advanced but I wouldn't consider it forgiving for high cappers. I have tried all the clubs listed below and they were all good but it is up to you to decide the feel, fit, distance etc. Fairwaywoods (NOT in any specific order): Callaway Big Bertha Callaway X Fairway Callaway X Hot Cobra Speed LD F Ping G5 Ping Rapture Ping G10 Taylormade r7 Draw Taylormade Burner Taylormade r7 Titanium Taylormade r7 CGB Max Fairway Tour Edge Bazooka Geomax Honma (Too many to list, and too expensive for high cappers but very easy to hit) Hybrids (NOT in any specific order): Callaway X Hybrid Cobra Baffler DWS Ping G5 Ping Rapture Ping G10 Taylormade Rescue Dual Taylormade Burner Taylormade r7 Draw I am sure these would be enough to keep you a handful. Have fun choosing your next club.

Go with game improvement clubs and not TOUR products. If looks or coolness factor is what you are going after with performance, then I guess Mizuno MP57 could be a choice but still not recomended for 30 handicap... Best to go with r7 iron or r7 draw irons rather than r7 TP. Callaway Fusion, Big Bertha are great as well. Cobra irons (Cobra FP) are same company as Titleist but known to be more forgiving and give lots of distance. Honestly, I would just use what you have until you play in the high 90's/low 100's consistantly before you make any purchase. Just my opinion.
-
Your TM Rescue Dual TP should be a good to interchange for 2, 3 iron and 5 wood. So I don't think 21* is really necessary in your bag. However, if you really want to get something, Ping G10 Fairways and hybrids were pretty good. Mizuno Fli CLK could also be a great addition IMO. Yes, I really liked the loud bang on the MX 560. Feels great doesn't it?

Do you prefer regular club heads or club heads with borethrough? (Driver, Fairway, Hybrid etc) Why?

To be a certified club fitter.
hypergolf replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thank you. I have already been to that site. However things that I asked above could not be answered. I am sorry for asking lots of silly questions but I am just curious about the industry. How many shafts do you usually order to keep in stock in general? How many of each brand, flex, etc? I guess it will depend on the popularity of the product but lets for example say Aldila VS Proto Stiff. How many of them would you order at a time and keep them in your inventory? Also what would be the average number of club jobs done per day? What would you say would be the highest number of type of jobs done per day (eg: re gripping, shaft extension, shaft replacement, lie angle etc) Finally what would be the average revenue of a club fitting store per month in general? Just in genral... (Therefore if I were to compare with a dentist the answers to above would be like: Order mostly for scaling, toothpaste, floss, etc. Average job of 10-12 clients per day and most jobs done in a day on average is scaling and treatment of tooth decay. Average revenue from month to month would be roughly $xxx.xx but if more patients come in for root canal etc on a given month $x,xxx.xx on an average. A good benchmark income for club making store would be $x,xxx.xx/month.) Thanks. -
Just talking about the head itself. Not the whole package. Which head in your opinion has a more solid feel, better distance, control and all the other good stuff if they were fitted with the exact same shaft? Please state for all categories below. Tks. Burner TP Driver vs Ping G10 Driver Burner TP Fairway vs Ping G10 Fairway RescueTP vs Ping G10 Hybrid

Hi guys. I am just curious as to how you can go about becoming a certified club fitter. Which courses/club fitting schools would be considered best in the world? How long does the whole process take from being knowing nothing to a good certified club fitter? How much investment would be needed for acquiring the knowledge? Once that is completed, how much on average does it cost to set up a club fitting shop? Any inputs would be appreciated. Tks.

New Drivers from TaylorMade Japan
hypergolf replied to IowaChop's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
TM r7 XR is used by senior golfers and TM r5 XL was a total failure here in Asia... R5 Dual works 1000 times better than the ones you posted... Tks. -
