What is the main difference in TT Putter shaft vs Rifle Putter shaft? Tks.
-
Currently playing 33" Scotty Cameron Newport 2 but will be changing the shaft to 34". Still haven't found a putter that beats this although I did have a few flirts with others...

Currently using 907D2 but thinking about moving onto Mizuno MP600 or Ping G10.

Using 585H now but thinking about using Mizuno hybrid. Does anyone know if they are coming out with a new hybrid model for 2008?

Which fairwaywoods do you use?
hypergolf replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Currently using Titleist but thinking about changing to either Ping or Mizuno. -
Changed to MP60 after playing with TM Rac LT for 1 year.

Mizuno woods have been overshadowed by their irons from most poeple's perspective and always didn't seem to be as popular as their irons. Ignoring the preconception of Mizuno woods, I tried their new products at a Mizuno fitting center. Following are my brief summaries about them. All statements are my personal opinion. MX 560 (Driver 10.5*) - Many people always told me that Mizuno drivers are one of the worst... However, I was very surprised with this one. Has a slight closed faced and a weird look from top (nothing weird like the square ones) but the energy transfer to the ball was awesome. At the point of impact you can really feel the ball with a loud bang off the club face. Distance was really good and definitely forgiving. You could work the ball if you wanted to but I think this driver is more for distance/forgiving seeking golfers. Feel was not solid like my 907D2 but slightly more like a trampoline but a good feel. Nothing to be bothered about. But if you are seeking for distance, this driver would be one of the top contenders with the right shaft with their custom fitting department. I tried it with stock Exsar stiff shaft which I felt pleasantly supprised too for its good feel and performance. MP 600 (Driver 9.5") - Another solid driver which also had awesome distance. Slightly less forgiving than the MX 560 but should not be a problem for decent ball strikers. The weight system really does effect the ball flight/swing but definitely not a "cure" for bad swings. What I really liked about this driver was the traditional look from the top and the great "bounce" effect off the face. Distance was very, very long. I might seriously consider this driver. Tried it with yellow Fujikura Rombax stiff shaft with it. F-60 (Fairwaywood 13.5* & 15*) - To me it felt like my current Titleist 906F2 but with more forgiveness. Great control and distance. Very solid feel at impact. Tried it with Exsar stiff shaft. 15* ball flight was slightly higher than my 906F2 but not ballooning. Gained about 7-10 yards in average compared to my fairwaywood. Not really recommended for high cappers but excellent equipment if you are a decent ball striker. Solid feel and for people who don't like bore through design would definitely like this. MP-57 (Iron) - I just wanted to do a comparison with my MP60 out of curiousity. Thicker top which is not that cumbersome and definitly more forgiving. Slightly less feel and still workable. However, not that big of a difference to change my current MP60. My personal preference was still MP60. MP-T (Wedge) - Many people say that Mizuno wedges are difficult and not good in feel. However, I might have to disagree. Could tell the softness off the face with good amount of spin. Mishits was slightly less forgiving compared to my Vokey Spin Milled but the feel of the ball sticking to the face was awesome. These will be my next set of wedges once my Vokeys wear off. Tried both Black Nickel and Chrome. IMPO Mizuno offers very solid line of equipments for the next season. The only piece that I could not try were the putters which I am really looking forward to. After trying out their woods, it got rid of my perception that Mizuno woods are not up to the standard. I personally think that they are great, solid equipments which both low and high cappers can enjoy.

It's good to hear that I can reshaft my SC Newport 2 from a fitter. Someone in the forum said that SC uses different kind of shaft so that conventinoal shafts would not fit onto the putter head so I was worried. Adding shaft extension wouldn't affect the putter's performance right? I would love to order from you but living in a third world country, it will cost me more to ship to you or you sending me the shaft... About 70% chance that they will get stolen as well... kekeke... Thanks for the offer though.

Maybe some pics might help. There are tons of fake ones here so I can usually tell...

3 wood distance Steel vs Titanium ??
hypergolf replied to Andaluzian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just to clarify, square fairwaywood is already out here in Asia. As for steel vs titanium... According to the sales rep titanium is supposed to go further than steel in theory... He said that usually people above 40 buys titanium face (please do not bring up things like r7 TP fairway etc. He was talking in general) but young ones should go with steel...But that is all personal choice I guess... -
Yup, I get you. I wasn't saying anything to you personally... Just wanted to state that it sounded like a marketing phrase... Thanks for the information. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Which putter craftsman do you think is/was the best within the last 50 years of golfing history? Why and which putter would be considered their masterpiece? 1. Scotty Cameron 2. Karsten Solheim 3. Bob Bettinardi 4. Others
-
Please choose which model you prefer and why. Tks. 1. Ping i-Series 2. Ping Redwood 3. Ping Karsten

Sounds more like a marketing phrase that sounds cool and sophisticated. I am sure some validity in what SC said but I have seen a lot of tour players add weigths to the putter heads without changing shaft lengths. Also what he says doesn't seem to validate putters like heavy putter, ping putters since some of them have same head weight with different shaft lengths. They are great putter manufacturers as well... Anyway, thank you for the info though. Just want to find out what shaft can be used to make my 350g head into 34". I hear I could use shaft extension as well... I also heard that SC uses another type of putter shaft so I won't be able to use True Temper or UST Frequency Filter shafts... Is this true? Tks.

Ping Irons' standard lie angles
hypergolf replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Got it. Thanks. -
I am planning to change my current 33" Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 putter with a 34" shaft. The head itself is 350g but the original 34" SC Newport 2 comes with a 340g head. Is there a reason for this? I do prefer a heavier head so I am assuming it will be ok to install a 34" shaft onto the 350g head. Also what putter shafts do you guys recommend from your experience? Tks.

I checked on the Ping website but couldn't find out what their irons' standard lie angles (Black Dot) are. Does anyone know the exact lie angles from 3-PW? Tks.

I am just wondering if you or anyone know the difference between karsten series and the redwood series... Also, i-series... Comparison, review etc?
-
Tried this putter today. Has a nice heavy feel and puts a good roll onto the ball. Face balanced and 355g head. It has a nice finish and might kick out Studio Style 2 out of my bag... Just wondering if anyone knows if the head reflects sunlight on a bright day...
-
I would love to but I am located in Southeast Asia so shipping would be quite costly... haha... Don't get me wrong... I am not saying Titleist clubs are bad. I just performed better with Pings personally...
-
Tried out the whole range of G10 woods today and I really had much better launch numbers (at the range with non-range balls), consistancy and distance on the launch monitor. Tried the driver, fairwaywood and hybrid with Pro Launcher Red. I never even looked at Ping stuff until today and boy was I wrong to go for clubs following like a lamb of what most people recommended. All the woods were square faced like Titleist except that it was more forgiving and HOT faced which sounded like firecrakers exploding at the point of impact. Tried the Redwood Piper putter as well and it was solid... It might kick out my Scotty Cameron Studio Style 2, which I thought would last for a long time. I switched from Taylormade to Titleist when my handicap was dropping and because most of my friends (and some people on the forum) said that I should hit a Titleist when my handicap is at certain level. Boy are they wrong... And I gotta admit that I blindly followed their advice... Anyway, lesson learned. We all could use some forgiveness and any other legal technological edge when playing on the course... I checked the Ping website under WRX and saw a bunch of shafts there. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is an upcharge for ordering non stock shafts. Will try out the irons and wedges at the fitting shop tomorrow but I think my Mizuno irons and Titleist wedges will stay in the bag... But then again who knows... Golf lesson learned today: "Never disregard certain products before trying them out!"
-
Go to the WRX tab on Ping's main page and you can see a whole bunch of shaft options. http://www.pinggolf.com/wrx_index.html I am not sure if you will be upcharged for the shafts... I am also curious about the upcharge part since I just became a Ping supporter... Check out the "Going from Titleist to Ping" thread...

I have been playing with Scotty Cameron Newport 2 for the past 1 1/2 years now and it has been a good putter. However, I have a straight back straight through putting stroke and been recommended by a few friends that I should try a face balanced putter (with shaft in the center) instead. I would seriously like to improve my putting since I can shave off around 5 strokes if I were to be more precise. However, since I got accustomed to the shaft in the heel, the center shaft looks awkward... Is this switch really going to help in my putting strokes? Which face balanced putters are recommended out there? Anyone made a transition from heel toe balanced to face balanced putter and noticed a difference? Any face balanced putters that do not have shaft right in the middle of the putter head? Thanks.
