My friend who usually played in the mid 90's has been focusing his practice on putting for 4 weeks now. I played with him yesterday and he scored mid 80's. That is 10 strokes compared to him a month ago. His iron/wood shots were similar but I could really tell that his putting has improved. He told me that focusing on putting for the last month really helped but also because he made a switch from blade to mallet style putter. (From SC Newport 2 to SC Red X) I have seen a lot of pros doing this switch too. Besides focusing on putting practice, I just wanted to see what your thoughts are on mallet putters. Do they really help to make it more stable putter stroke? Does MOI really matter in a putter?

Please vote for one and state why you chose the one over the others. Please limit your choice to only these 3 drivers. Thanks.

Difference between "pro" and "game improvement"
hypergolf replied to Philbo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hey Philbo. I will be going to Melbourne in a couple weeks!!! Do you live near Glen Waverley??? Lets try to play together when I am there. Anyway, if you are 10 handicapper it might be ok to use player's clubs (eg: r7 TP, MP 60, X-Forged, etc) which has a decent cavity to it. This is just my opinion but if you are more comfortable with thicker irons it shouldn't be a problem either. My first club was a Rac LT and it had a thin top line/sole and I was scoring 120s with it at first but after a few months I was able to hit in the high 90s. People said it was a player's club and I should not use it as a beginner but I was more comfortable with thinner top line and didn't listen to them. Now I am winning those people who stopped me from using those irons and they played for more than 5 years vs me, 1 1/2 years. I now play a 18 handicap and switched to MP60 and have no problem with it. I think MP60 is recommended for players with 4-8 handicap or something like that but what the heck. As long as you like the club and have enough time to practice it shouldn't really matter IMO. I think 1-10 is low capper, 11-22 mid capper, 22+ is high capper... But I might be wrong with this... -
From reading your past posts on this thread it seems like that your mind is set for the r7 TPs. I happened to try them at the range just yesterday because my friend just bought a set. He tried my MP60. Though r7 TP is an excellent club, I could really tell the hardness/clickiness compared to my MP60. However if you like that kind of a feel and matches your taste then it would be an awesome club. However, after my friend tried my MP60 he decided to return the whole set and wait for MP57 to be release here. He too wanted a cavity back but wanted something more forgiving than MP60 and the feel of Mizuno irons. The price for r7 TP 3-PW my friend bought for was $695 w/ NS Pro Shafts. Price would be the same for TT Dynamic Gold as well.

I have read Sandtrap's review about this club. However, I would like to get the sandtrappers' personal feedback/review regarding this club. Please give as much information as possible regarding ball flight, sound, feel, playability on the tee/off the deck/rough etc etc. Also please mention which shaft you used to test this club. Also if you have tried both 906F2 and 906F4 please give a comparison on that as well. Thanks.

I have been playing with Titleist Pro V1x for the past several months but wanted to try out some alternative balls which are cheaper but performs quite equally well... Please choose which you would recommend (ONLY BETWEEN THESE 2 OPTIONS) and would perform similar spin rate, distance, feel etc. Also please state why you chose one over the other. Thanks.

Cool! Thanks for the info. Sounds interesting. I wonder how Axis performs compared to the Epic shaft.
-
I did a search on this shaft but couldn't get any threads... Could you please give any info about this shaft? What shaft does it play similar to? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is there any difference in feel, performance etc amongst these three types of wedge finishes? Planning to buy a new MP-T wedge since my Vokeys are worn out and wanted to get some opinions. Also, does black nickel finish rust? Thanks for your input.

As I said I am just posting the info I got from the club. Isn't this forum supposed to be sharing what is happening around the globe (and not just US based) This was just done by a local club for the fun of it so I am not saying that you have to give more credit to this event. Second, I am still far from being a low handicapper so get your facts correct before you throw some sacarsm at people? Maybe a low capper like you could fall under those idiot category? (Chill... Just poking some fun as well.) But anyway, to be honest I only could only get 6 out of 10 clubs right. Some of those China made cast blades had good feel to it... There were a few unknown brands as well... Not all the popular brands like Titleist, Mizuno etc etc. And yes, one of the wrong ones I got was the 775CB. I honestly thought it was cast. I also agree that the exact same club of both forged and cast has to be presented for this test to be true. You can throw all the questions and arguements at me but as I said I was just the participant and wanted to share this experience with the members here. So yes, as you said don't take this result too seriously. But please vote. Just want to see the results here.

A local golf club had gathered 200 members to test if people could actually distinguish between forged irons vs cast irons. All grips on the test irons were changed and necessary parts of the clubs which showed hints were all taped up/erased so that no one could guess what club they were hitting with. (Basically they blocked out all possible hints that you could figure out what clubs they are) The participants had a few observers while doing the test. The participants were handed a club at a time and he would have to hit it immediately without checking the club in any way to find out any visual hints of the club. 5 swings per club, total of 10 clubs. This was the result that came out depending on the handicap range. + Handicap: 82% could tell between forged vs cast irons. 0-10 Handicap: 75% could tell between forged vs cast irons. 11-20 Handicap: 74% could tell between forged vs cast irons. 21-30 Handicap: 47% could tell between forged vs cast irons. 30+ Handicap: 55% could tell between forged vs cast irons. You could have a lot of arguements about this topic but I am just sharing the information I received. Enjoy. Can you tell the difference between forged vs cast irons just by feel?

Just bought a new driver, have some questions...

I second that... Was reading till line 4 and my eyes got tired... -
What is the difference between MP-R series and the new MP-T series wedges? I couldn't really tell much of a difference except that MP-T looks like the old MP-T with a C grind...
-
Tried both on demo day at the local range. Both are great clubs but preferred the FT-i. Was very consistant and good distance. I liked the sound of it too... If people are complaining that you can't work the ball with FT-i then I would use the 3 fairwaywood if I had to work the ball. Besides, not many people can "really" work the ball off the tee anyways...

Looking for new irons, could use some help
hypergolf replied to Xbmchs12X's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
They are all really good clubs. Can't go wrong with anyone of them. Amongst the bolded choices I would give my vote to Bridgestone. However, my first choice would be Mizuno. Don't know why but I pesonally prefer the Japanese iron heads when it comes to irons. Better feel and control although distance might be slightly less compared to the US iron heads. -
What kind of wedges should I add to a 3-PW set?
hypergolf replied to hackerdave's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I didn't read the other replies so I might be repeating someone else but if you have a 45 degree PW you might want to consider the following combinations. 50/51 degree wedge and 55/56 degree combination. 52 degree, 58 degree combination 50, 55, 60 can also be done but not really recommended since you are still a high handicapper... Too much loft can kill your game in the beginning... Brand is up to you of course. -
Rescue club - Titleist 585.H vs. Taylormade Rescue TP
hypergolf replied to 755Forged's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Titleist 585H was my choice. I tried both 585H and Rescue TP before my decision as well. 585H had a lower flight and more workable. Rescue TP was slightly more forgiving but I don't think you are looking for forgiveness if you wan't to play with these clubs. I also liked the fact that 585H is shorter by 0.5" but that is not a big deal if you are going to custom order TM as well. Both nice clubs but prefered the setup, looks and feel of 585H.. Plus I liked the borethrough of Titleist better... -
Yeah... He did it right infront of me... Swung the club and bang!!! The ball flew 90 degrees towards my direction missing me by a few inches... And the result is as shown in the picture... Oh well... I guess I will have to use it for a while and ask him to replace it with 906F4 if that is better and with same price...
-
My friend was trying with my fairwaywood and hit the ball on the head (where the PT is printed on the 906F2) and created a dent. I don't know how he hit it there but the dent is very noticeable. Is there a way to restore it to normal condition? Thanks.

Please reply to this thread without being biased to your favorite brands. In Japan Bridgestone/Tour Stage is more widely used compared to Mizuno. I just wanted to find out which was more widely used in the US and in Europe. Please state your reasons for your choice.

Which other balls play similar to Titileist Pro V1x? So far from my research, I found these balls could be alternatives to Pro V1x. Taylormade TP Black, Srixon Z-URC, Callaway HX Tour, Bridgestone B330, and Nike One Black. Am I missing anything else or are there more alternatives that play similar to Pro V1x?

I always had the thought that wedges should have a heavier feel/swing weight compared to the iron set but then again if you prefer lighter wedges then custom wedges like KGZ or Nakashima can do one for your... If not you can custom order from branded club makers like Titieist, Cleveland etc after finding out your current cheater's wedge specs... Most of the wedges in the market are really good these days so you can't really go wrong with too many of them... Yes some people prefer rust but I personally didn't really feel the difference... Doing fine with chromed wedges so far. Usual generalization is that higher bounce for diggers or for softer sand, lower bounce for sliders or for harder sand's or grounds to get the edge to go right under the ball... Try borrowing from you friends or demo them to feel the different variations.
