  1. Anyone else here a wannabe course architect/designer? I'm just kinda drawing out some ideas right now, and I'm looking for some feedback. I'm taking some CAD-type classes in high school right now and am semi-interested in a career in architecture. So to sum up this post, I've got some ideas and I was wondering if anyone else had some ideas of their own that they would want to share or if anyone wanted to take a look at some work I've been doing. Thanks for any feedback guys, I appreciate it. I'll probably be uploading some sketches within a day or two.
  2. Three favorites that I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat: The Downhill Lie , Carl Hiaasen Who's Your Caddy? , Rick Reilly The Legend of Bagger Vance , Steven Pressfield Three great reads, the first two being about the author's experiences with golf, both very funny and well-written. The last one is a historical fiction, very entertaining and thought-provoking.
  3. I'm working on alot of thing, but mostly refining my iron game and getting my putting consistent. 1) Iron Game a. Distance - I use my irons for everything except the occasional wide open fairway, where I tentatively take out my 3 wood, close the clubface, and aim way right. Anyway I need to add a little more distance (4I - 180/185, 5I - 170/175) to start reaching more greens in regulation. b. Consistency - My 4I and 5I are still a bit shaky, sometimes hitting a little fade, sometimes a more pronounced cut, and once in a while arrow straight. I can play with any of those, but I need to figure out which it's gonna be when I'm setting up my shots. 6I and down are pretty much straight, pushing and the occasional pull being a slight problem, probably because I stand to close to the ball (according to my pretty knowledgeable friend). 2) Putting a. Touch - My touch has been off and on lately, and I don't really know how to correct it. I feel like I'm doing the same thing every time I putt, but sometimes I just don't know how far it's gonna roll. I know it mostly has to do with my hands, and I've tried putting gloveless, with a glove, all sorts of stuff. Time on the practice green is almost useless, because it's not a skill issue, I feel I just have the touch or I don't. b. Short putts - I've been getting better, peaking with one round where I missed maybe one putt all day within 6 feet. I remember being so calm that day, and sometimes I just can't find that confidence out on the greens. I get nervous and just plain miss... hoping that with practice and a bit of relaxation, I'll get back to being automatic on the shorties.
  4. On Saturday I played with my friend at our local course, and I really had nothing that quite stood out (shot 123, after a one-month layoff from surgery, but still... yikes), but he might have made the shot of his life. His tee shot went way left and bounced off a tree, going maybe 80-100 yards. He was in the woods but in bounds and pulled out his hybrid. I couldn't believe it, but he was going to try and hit through about a 10-inch gap between a few trees in front of him into the fairway on the long par 5 6th. He had almost a full backswing but not very much room to follow through, but, and I saw it with my own eyes, he split the gap, landed 190 yards or so down the fairway and ended up in the first cut. I believe he was on in 4 and made bogey, but that shot is probably something he'll hold over me for a long time.
  5. In 'N' Out is far and away the best fast food I have ever eaten. Sadly, I live in NH, some 2500 miles from the nearest restaurant. Out here, I hear Five Guys is good, but have never been. I'd say the best I go to is Wendy's (amazing nuggets and frosties) or Quiznos (even if it is a little overpriced).
  6. My friend plays on our varsity golf team and taught me a little trick to help hitting shorter wedges and pitches. Take your normal practice swings, then leave most of your weight on your front foot. Take the swing you'd normally take for that shot, and the ball may have a little bit of a lower trajectory than normal, but I can personally guarantee that you will not chunk it. Hope this helps.
  7. I was the first one to spurt expletives when I saw Pavin had picked Rickie Fowler to the team this year, but hats off to the kid for his great comeback today down 3 with 3 to go. What a great performance, and hopefully many more like it to come.

I'm fifteen, and this is my second season playing, hopefully with 60 or 70 more to come!

    2010 Ryder Cup

I second this, who exactly is favoring Phil? I understand Tiger doesn't exactly have his hands full with Molinari, especially considering he's played fairly well thus far. But sadly, Lefty has continued his less-than-impressive Ryder Cup play this year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him lose, even to Hanson.
  10. Yesterday was my first round since I had surgery to remove a piece of infected bone from my tibia on September 8. I've never been happier shooting 61-62, not bad for me (I'm about a 25-30 handicap) considering I hadn't played in a month, and hadn't even started to walk without crutches less than a week before. I'm probably only going to get to play a few more times before the New England weather shuts down our courses, but I was ecstatic to be back out on a golf course again.
