  1. Saturday I played in a tournament at the Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim Wa with my FIL and another father/son combo. I normally shoot in the low-mid 90s, so making the turn at 46 I was feeling pretty good. I string together a couple of pars, nothing worse than a bogey until the 17th. 145 or so par 3, FIL goes first, water to the left, his shot hits to the left of the pin, and rolls off the green into the first cut. I'm up next, and aim just a little right of the flag. I hit my shot, and it looks okay, hits the green and takes a turn right towards the stick. Starts rolling, and then disappears into the cup. My first Hole In One. Finish with a 40 on the back, for a 86, which is just dandy. Our team wins the best ball part of the tournament, I win the low net, and of course win the KP on that hole(sadly, all of that money went to playing partners beverages). All the rest of the weekend I just wanted to go out and try to replicate that on a course. I go from not looking forward to league to wanting it to be every day in the span of about 13 seconds.
  2. I also play a 9 hole league, and our 4 man team needs 5 points (out of 12 ) next week to get a bye into the championship round. I play as the 4th (highest HC) on the team but my HC has dropped 6 or so strokes from the start of the year (to go with the 7 last year) and I find it increasingly difficult when I have to give 5,6,7,8 or even 9 strokes to the other 4th players. Anyone have any advice for dealing with that?
  3. Age: 32 Height: 6'4" Where are you from: Washington State How Long have you been Playing: 18 months or so Best Score: 84 Favorite club in the bag: 5 wood and 60 degree Golf Books / DVD's that have helped you: youtube I reckon Where do you play: Gold Mountain Golf Complex Best courses you've played so far: Olympic Course @ Gold Mountain Things you enjoy most about golf: Pleasant summer evenings on the course, making a shot happen exactly as you planned Goals for 2K10: HC under 20 (19.7 atm), better with the putter (avg 17 or so for 9)
  4. On the tee, never. I set my ball, back off 2 steps, look at the ball, and then step up and hit. If I practice swing, then I start thinking and that is not good for me. For anything else, I will take practice swings until I have what I want, sometimes takes 1, sometimes 4.
  5. Playing in the league, had to give 7 strokes to a fellow. Was pretty close, even with the disparity until 16. Hit a good drive, and a good 2nd leaving me 120 or so from the pin(par 5). Under a tree, so I dont want to hit a normal shot, so I try ot punch out and run up to the hole. Use a 6I and hit it flush. Goes way over and into the bushes. Have to take an unplayable, put it on the green from there and 3 putt for an 8. End up losing the match by 1.
  6. Managed to get 36 in yesterday at Gold Mountain, shot a 94 on the first 18 and a lifetime best of 86 on the second. They had temp greens which I had never played on before on a couple of holes, and I can barely move now, but yay 86.
  7. New set of irons, a hybrid, 18 balls, 200 tees, and a WSU golf set. Now as soon as get my 2nd daughter out, gonna try them out.
  8. Shot an 88 for my first breaking of 90. Missed 5 birdie putts inside of 10 feet, 3 par putts. Need to work on that inside this winter. Think that will be it until spring
  9. They thought it was by Germany.
  10. Try having to explain where Idaho is to an east coaster.
  11. I took 2 golf PE classes. Started in the beginner, and it was just that. Very very basic. They started us on the range and putting green for the first couple of weeks, then it was 2 rounds of golf a week for the duration. The intermediate class was better, focused on swing mechanics a bit, tried to teach a bit about different kind of shots (punch, flop, that sort of thing). The intermediate was more fun for me, as the golf that was played was more golfish, instead of hitting a ball 8-10 times towards a hole.
  12. Shot a 9 over 45 playing with my Dad (2nd time golfing), and Uncle (very long layoff for him). Had 3 2 putt pars in 9 holes, ties my record, as soon as I become better at putting, birdies will come my way.
  13. On a dinky muni Ive never played before, par 5, severe bend to the left about 350 from the tees. Hit a straight tee shot, ended up on left side of fairway. Figured since I slice the crap out of my 3 wood, Id just rear back and clobber it. Once I hit it, noticed it went straight, lost sight. Figured it ended up OB in the little dead zone that was there trying to prevent cutting across is 2. Hit a provisional, just in case. Found the ball on the right side of the fairway, about 30 yards away. Hit a chubby PW and 2 putted for par.
  14. Par 3 8th at Gold Mountain, 149 out teed up and grabbed a 7i. Was going through my routine, and heard my opponent say the yardage, which was different that what I thought. Went back and grabbed my 6, and put it within 8 feet. May earn a trophy ball for that one.
  15. Shot a lifetime best 44 on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain. Didn't attempt to hit the driver at all today, hit my 3 wood which was a great decision as I hit 5 of 7, and the distance was just as good as my driver. Had no blow up holes again, and putted so much better than Im used to, think I had 15 total. That makes consecutive 44s during league, and with 3 weeks to go, feels like I am hitting my stride.
