Nike Launches New Machspeed Black Drivers and Forged VR Pro Combo, Pro Blade Irons

Nike sets its sights on continued success for the upcoming year by building off of proven designs and concepts. Because like I’ve said in the past, why re-invent the wheel if something works??

Bag DropIn sports, whether we’re talking about a single player, a team, or even the equipment our favorite athletes use, every entity forms a certain image, or a certain formula that people get to know that entity by. Generally speaking, if you have a successful formula, you stick with it, and over time, with a tweak here and an enhancement there, it may evolves. Sometimes it radically changes for no reason (see Harrington, Padraig), and other times, it gets a little bit too stuck in its ways and resists evolution, even when the situation calls for it (see Pittsburgh Steelers). Though more often is the case that these entities are able to evolve while at the same time staying true to their roots.

Enter Nike Golf. In a little short of a decade, they have kept that balance of both evolution and staying true to what got them to the big game. Technology has been the name of their game for quite a while, and a lot of times it’s out there and in your face, like it or not. But ever so slowly, their products evolved as well, by combining that technology with more traditional appearances, while still keeping options alive for players that don’t mind a little bit of that technology to be visible. I think the products we’ve got for you this week prove just how far they’ve come in a relatively short time. Follow along as we take a look and see what I mean.

Callaway Releases New Diablo Octane Drivers and Fairway Woods

Callaway adds some fuel to their Diablo line with the new Diablo Octane and Diablo Octane Tour drivers and fairway woods.

Bag DropWhat happens when an established golf equipment manufacturer creates a research and development partnership with an Italian automaker known for their insanely fast supercars? We’ll answer that question in a minute, but it should come as no surprise that Callaway and Autmobilia Lamborghini (commonly known as just “Lamborghini”) have officially formalized their partnership after a number of years of collaboration on advanced materials. That, and apparently they both have some sort of obsession with the devil (Lamborghini Diablo, Callaway’s Diablo line of clubs, see the pattern here??).

Before I start spreading rumors of some devil worship cult that exists deep within the these two corporate giants, you should probably know that the Lamborghini Diablo was actually named after a fighting bull. Now that I’ve drifted ridiculously off-topic, I’m going to yank us right back like a bull fighter yanking away the red cape so that we can take a look at the latest drivers and fairway woods from Callaway.

Titleist Introduces 910 Drivers – First Adjustable Models from Titleist

Titleist joins the ranks of manufacturers who offer adjustable clubs with the new 910 series.

Bag DropBob Dylan sang “Times They Are A-Changin’,” though in the world of golf equipment, it may have never been as true as it is now. While others have had a few different variations of adjustability, Titleist had yet to jump on the bandwagon. As they say, being first to market doesn’t equate to being better.

Does this mean that adjustable drivers have reached a point where it’s so mainstream that the adjustability factor has no effect on how “traditional” people perceive a manufacturer and their clubs, or does it simply mean Titleist is evolving out of that “traditionally traditional” mold? Though the introduction of the 910 series as well as the AP Series might lead one to believe they’re just progressing and working in new technology, who really cares either way?? Plain and simple we, as players, are getting a beautiful new adjustable driver from one of the most established, respected names on the market.

Mizuno MP T-11 Wedges, MP-53 and MP-63 Irons Round Out Fall 2010 Lineup

Continuing our coverage of the newest clubs Mizuno has to offer, we take a look at the newest in the ever-popular MP series. Do we have something here to add to the early holiday wish list?

Bag DropThis week at Bag Drop, we shift gears from Mizuno’s new game improvement JPX line to the latest in their game enhancement MP line. Though the MP line has naturally evolved over the last few years, there are a few things we all expect to stay the same – the buttery feel, the near perfect sound, and the understated, modern good looks.

Also included in this week’s roundup is the newest in the MP T- line of forged wedges, the MP T-11. I could give you a long, drawn out introduction, but quite frankly, I know you want to get to the good stuff, and we have a lot to cover this week, so let’s get started!

Mizuno Introduces JPX-800 Series Irons

Mizuno ushers in a new era of performance game improvement irons built with the combined skill of their club designers from Japan, Europe, and the U.S.

Bag DropHow do you improve on one of the more popular game improvement lines of the past few years? If you’re Mizuno, you don’t – instead, you pull all the great ideas and technology from your assets around the world, and build something new.

Some may mourn the loss of Mizuno’s MX line (myself included, the MX-300s are still seeing heavy rotation in my bag, and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon), but after taking a look at the new JPX-800 and JPX-800 Pro there’s a good chance those feelings will change. The JPX line, in fact, is set to be Mizuno’s global (as in, not U.S. or Japan only, as we’ve seen in the past) brand of game improvement gear, and becomes the newest complement to the award winning MP line.

Bag DropTaylorMadeadidas Golf has keeps pumping out the goods, as they have improved on a number of familiar designs, and unleashes a new Ghost just in time for Halloween. Okay, that was kinda cheesy, I know, but when I see something that easy, I just can’t help myself.

Yes, we’ve got a number of odds and ends from TMaG this week. On the apparel side, there are some very classy new shoes, and some versatile new outerwear just in time for the chilly months. On the equipment side, the Burner line of balls have undergone some improvements, while another one of the popular Rossa putters gets the Ghost white paint treatment. There’s a lot to cover this week, so lets get started!

Bag DropBefore long, there’s nothing that exists in the pro shop that you won’t easily be able to take with you on every trip to the driving range. The fine tuning and fitting capabilities of adjustable clubs may have only been the tip of the iceberg, and the new VectorX all-in-one launch monitor from AccuSport definitely takes another step in this direction.

As an avid player, just imagine how much more productive your practice could be if you had instant, accurate readings on all facets of your ball flight on every single shot. While it won’t directly correct your swing, the information presented on every shot is undoubtedly useful in reinforcing your good swings.

TRUE Linkswear Launches Tour Golf Shoe

Newcomer TRUE Linkswear’s new shoe comes to market with Ryan Moore among their already satisfied customers.

Bag DropEvery so often, we cover products from new companies that might not be everyone’s “cup of tea,” for lack of a better term. When you step back and look at it from a wider perspective, aren’t all products in golf like that? Do we all play the same ball, or the same irons, or wear the same clothes? Of course not. That’s just one of the many aspects of the game that we love that makes it unique. We have the ability to personalize and choose equipment, and apparel especially, to express ourselves and our personalities in a way that our uniformed counterparts in other sports cannot.

One of the PGA Tour’s obvious examples of this is Ryan Moore, who’s style is certainly is one of the most talked about. New to Moore’s sartorial choices is golf shoes shoes from TRUE linkswear. The Dallas-based company consists of golfers who are truly passionate about their product. In fact, in every job description in the company is a requirement to play 18 holes every week, in the name of product testing. To say that I’m jealous would be an incredible understatement. Anyway, enough groveling in my envy, let’s take a look at the new shoes from TRUE Linkswear.
