I got my ping i10 irons about 5 months ago and like them, but i feel like i lose a little bit of distance compared to my previous set of callaway steelheads. my ball striking is consistently good enough to play blades and i was opting towards the titleist z forged before my swing coach ordered me ping i10s through his endorsment deal. i still had to pay a large portion of the sale price but it was knocked down a little bit. he said the reason for i10s is they play like blades but have more forgiveness and that pings customer service and quality is always stellar. another reason he gave was that the titleist clubs are heavier due to swingweight then most other companies clubs because they are made to be "players" clubs. knowing that i can hit "players" clubs well, i was slightly discontent because when i look back, it seems like it would not have effected me to have heavier irons because i'm decently strong. my question is: am i playing the right irons right now weight wise?

IIRC, the swingweight of the i10 is the same as my (old) i3's, D0. The exception being the PW & UW (D2), the SW (D4) and the LW (D6).

Both the ZB and the ZM are D2 throughout the set.

I just made the switch from the i3 blades to the ZMs a few weeks ago. Personally I prefer the slightly higher swingweight. Before I played the i3's I had a set of Eye-2's which are noted to be C9-D0 (which I'm guessing means that they're roughly the same as my i3s).

I found that I hit the ZMs about 1/2 to 1 club further than my i3's. This could be due to the swingwight and/or the extra 1/2" or so of shaft, I'm not sure. I just know that the ZMs feel a lot better and give me a lot more options when it comes to working the ball. Being a 2, you may enjoy this advantage as well. If you'd like, I can be a lot more verbose in my i3 blade vs ZM comparison. For now, I'll leave it at that.

The only way that you'll know for sure what's better for your game is to try out a set of the Titleist ZBs or ZMs and see what you think. Swingweight has a lot to do with personal preference and feel so I can't say which is better for you, only you can do that.

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
