Never played there but love the course. Maybe one day I will find my way on. There has always been talk that Merion is too short to host a major championship being they are landlocked and can't add much mength to the course. Since the usga announced the us open at Merion they have changed the specs on grooves. How much effect do you think this will have on the players? Did the usga give merion the open knowing 2 years later they were going to change the specs on grooves. I am just curious to see how this effects the players.

I have played Marion and think it will be a great venue. It will teach many viewers how much fun it is to see a course that forces a players to really be able to play golf. Too many of the US tournaments are played on "bomb, gouge and putt" courses.

That's why I love the Open Championship. The links courses require a much more complete set of skills. Its not just about being able to blast it 300 yards and putt.

I, too, have not played Merion but believe this will be a tremendous venue for the US Open. Players in the Corey Pavin mold will definitely be in contention in a US Open where 300+ drives are a must. Shot making will be back in the fold and most tour players have lost this art since it is no longer a premium. I wish the courses that measure 7,500+ yards (at sea level) would be shorted so that real golf can be played on them. Merion will serve as a great venue. I hope that one day I might have the privilege to play there.

    • Day 129: 5/4/24 Stack training but could not certify my warmup speed. Dealing with a pulled neck muscle. Chips and pitches at a local course for about 15 minutes.
    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
