Here in southern Wisconsin, when the golf season starts really depends upon how much snow we get.
There have been winters when we havent gotten a whole lot of snow and gotten a stretch of days where the temps were in the 50s and there were some golf courses that opened.
Most years though, the golf season doesnt start until April.

I live near Lansing, MI. The season starts when the snow goes and the courses dry out. Some years this is in March other years not until April. Also some years we have a mid-winter thaw. I have played in Jan. or Feb. when this happens and the course is dried out. I'm hoping for an early spring this year.

I live in Brighton about an hour from Lansing. Hopefully we have an early spring.

So are ranges open out near Chicago even though there's a load of snow on the ground? I'll have to go look today lol.

If you dont mind a bit of a drive, head up to Vitense Golf Land in Madison, WI.

They have a heated driving range that is open year-round. Im there every Sunday morning and that plays is usually packed on the weekends.

I try to play all year round or at least go to the range. Cold weather ain't a problem for me . If it's above 35 I try a go to a course to get at least nine in. I go to the range a lot to stay sharp. Some of them are heated and they're pretty nice. The only thing that causes trouble is the snow. When that happens I sit on the couch watchin the golf channel wishin I could be playin. I just wish I could move some place warm all year round like Texas or Flordia.

I live in Kansas City, I will start going to the range in March and playing rounds in April. Weather was warm enough to play this weekend, mid 60's, but the greens are in really bad shape and the sun sets so early that I usually hold off until April. I find the layoff gets me excited to play in the spring and I don't get stale.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

In Minnesota the weather is pretty brutal ( in January it was -24* without windchill!) but the snow usually melts by the last week of march or the first week in April and the high school team starts the day home course opens.

When I lived in Michigan (Metro-Detroit) I would hang em' up around early December and not really play until early March or so...

Now that I live in NC... I have played 5 rounds since Christmas, and plan on playing tomorrow and Wednesday since it will be in the 70's both days.

We do a Myrtle trip in early March. When we get home, hopefully the courses will start opening.

It's supposed to go to the mid 50's tomorrow. That will feel tropical. I may try to sneak out! ::fingers crossed::

    • Dublin Coddle (Irish Sausage and Potato Stew is my guess. I would go with haggis, but that is Scottish.
    • These are the courses that I remember, but there may be others that I’m not remembering at the moment. I broke 100 atOakland Hills one time, but what I shot otherwise will be taken to the grave with me.    Country Club of the North - Several LPGA tournaments NCR Country Club South Course - 51st PGA, 41st US Women’s Open, 05 US Senior Open (attended) TPC Michigan - Ford Senior Players Championship Valhalla - 24, 14, 2000, and 96 PGA Championships, 11, and 04 Senior PGA Championships, 08 Ryder Cup Oakland Hills - 08 PGA Championship, 04 Ryder Cup, 96, 85, 61 and other US Opens TPC Sawgrass - The Players Championship

    • For me it was combo of good drama and total last man standing collapse... But it showed me once again that "ball rollback" is nonsense...when courses are set up to punish missed fairways and greens, that's where the quality golf (or total collapse) takes place...hurting the rest of us because a relatively few can bomb it 100 yards farther is idiotic...that Young bomb on 18 was gutsy... He misses the fairway with that he likely doesn't win, at least on that hole...
    • Followed by the longest drive on 18 in the shotlink era. That is a tough shot and he stood up there and did it. Fair play to him.
