I was teamed with a scratch golfer while in Las Vegas on business. After 2 holes he suggested that I take my club back slowly and then release it. It did wonders for my game. That was the first day I broke 100.

I've heard a few good things, but the top THREE were on the same day by the same guy -- a random professional caddy that couldn't go pro but tried at least. This was a couple months since picking up the sport... play was slow and we joined up with about 7 holes left.

#1 -- Gave me a simple pointer how to understand how those in between wedge shots work between 20-80 yards. Since then, those are my favorite shots. I don't want to screw it up and give bad advice so I'm not going to try and put it in my own words.

#2 -- Keep your head down when putting.

#3 -- He taught me about the "pro line" ie... playing for more break when you are unsure. Since then I've accidentally made a bunch of putts just playing more than what I decide I should.

And it's not really advice, but he told me my short game (close chipping) was one of the best he's seen from someone only playing a couple months. Chipping is my favorite part of the game, and his comments just motivated me even more to improve.

//The WEIRDEST advice ever was some really old guy who told me (seriously at first... then laughed after so I guess it was a joke afterall) the way to train to keep your head down through a shot is to get some string and hook your scrotum to your head so you don't lift it.......... :/

Went back to visit Atlanta, and had time to play one of my old favorite golf courses. I thought I would be alone, but on the first tee I got paired with another single. He was an older gentleman, but had a very nice game. I was all over the course, while he was right up the middle most of the day.

On 16, a downhill par 5, I sprayed a drive. I turned away in disgust, and made a comment about how I never had a consistent shape, and I was always all over the course because of it.

I'll never forget: he said to me "Would you like some information?", which was brilliant because he wasn't forcing anything on me but he offered help. I obviously said yes. "Your swing and your game are fine, but you need to work on your grip."

I then got a 10 minute lesson on my grip, and he turned me onto "Hogan's 5 lessons". Turns out he was a teaching pro at one of the nicest courses in the area. Great guy, I was so glad to have met him, and he absolutely helped my game a ton.
