Yesterday while golfing, my friend had back to back double digit holes and just really quit his round (he still was hitting but wasn't caring). While I continued to play he walked with and started playing the last 4 holes throwing the ball instead of swinging. In addition to my ball i was actually playing i also decided to throw one (because the course was dead and it gave us something to talk about). I finished with a 49 (good score on 9 for me) while still having to throw the other ball. While I'm sure this is horrible for the game of golf and could be seen as horse play, I was just wondering if anyone has come up with any other games on the course.

Way back in the day, I used to go out as a twosome quite a bit with my buddy. Since we always caught up to other groups, in order to slow the pace down, we would play "The Presidents Ball".

It was just an alternate shot, he would tee off, I would hit next, etc until holed. I would tee off the Presidents ball only every other hole, he was tee ball President the other holes. The President would always hit last off the tee.

There were days when the Presidents score would kick both our butts!

There's all sorts of tee box games we used to play- usually chipping/pitching to markers & garbage cans.

If the course was empty enough we'd create "Tiger Tees" and stretch each hole out to stupid lengths or play cross country golf- play from the 2nd tee to the 9th green, etc...

Not every time on the course needs to be a score you post. Sometimes making up your own game is where you discover how to hit different kinds of shots. It's a game... it's supposed to be fun. Although throwing the ball? Good way to throw your arm out.

When I used to play at my Country Club in FL after a good rain when the course was empty me and the Pro and a couple other guys would play the course backwards. I.E... Tee off behind 18 green and play to 17 green, then from behind 17 green to 16 green, so on so forth. You wanna talk about tough......

I used to do that a few times a year, when I worked maintenance and we closed the course for aeration. Me and the super would go out while the contractors were doing their thing and play the course backwards.

Trivia Question: What's the only course in the world that was actually laid out to play backwards and was later modified to play in the current direction? (HINT - This explains why most of the bunkers are hidden from the tee...)

While waiting to tee off my buddy and I will place our balls next to one of our tee markers. The object is to hit your ball off the other tee marker; hit the one you started next to and then hit your buddy's balls with yours. You alternate turns with an extra turn given if you hit one of the tee boxes.

Its actually a simple little fun game that makes the waiting time go by quite quickly on the tee box.

Right answer! That was an easy one for a true golf fan

Yeah, we usually hit the little broken tee bits at each other across the tee while waiting. It's pretty fun.

Never drawn blood, but we've had some nicks and scratches! It started when I was on the course maintenance crew and started doing it to get the broken wood bits off the tee for the mowers...

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
