ok,
so I am a poor student. I have like $75 to spend on a driver. I haven't used one for years but the other day I swung some at the range and loved them. I was looking primarily for a Taylormade, but I don't think I can find any recent models in my price range. I would prefer TM, but I am open to Callaway.

Years ago I swung my dads TM Firesole. It was a midsized head and I loved it. So I don't think I want something as huge as the 360ti.

Some more info on my swing: I never slice, but I do find that I duck hook drivers sometimes. My swing speed is about 92-96. I think I need a S90.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can definitely find a used R7 or R5 on ebay for that price range, as for which exact one someone who knows a little bit more about tayloremades can help you definitely but that price range is not bad.

Just ordered a Mizuno MX 560 from GPPGOLF.com for under 75 including shipping. I used the 10 credit for adding them to myspace. It has great reviews on the web.

http://www.gppgolf.com/gppg/content/...productId=1241 Mizuno MX-560 Driver The MX-560™ driver achieves two major design goals: EXTREME DISTANCE and EXTREME FORGIVENESS. In creating a unique H.E.M.I. geometric head shape, Mizuno engineers increased the heel-toe and up-down MOI of the driver for massive forgiveness, while maintaining a low spin rate and high launch angle for massive distance. Furthermore, the H.E.M.I geometric shape provides the perfect balance of a low-deep COG and a COG with proper distance from the shaft axis. This also aids greatly in “Bombing” long and straight drives. In addition, the CNC milled plasma welded CORTECH™ face insert delivers the maximum USGA allowable ball speed across the entire area of the face for explosive distance. H.E.M.I Geometric Head Design for Extreme Distance and Extreme Forgiveness. Features: Unique H.E.M.I geometric head shape delivers maximum heel-toe and up-down MOI and a precisely placed C.O.G. for EXTREME FORGIVENESS. CNC milled, plasma welded CORTECH™ design utilizes multiple face thicknesses for EXTREME DISTANCE. Maximum allowable USGA 460cc volume delivered in a unbelievably large head shape for a “can’t miss” driving attitude. Solid, Explosive, and Powerful sound. okay so I searched ebay for r7 drivers... apparently there are like 100 different types... 460, 425, quad, max, superquad, limited, and TP...

I want the smallest head available and I don't want to use weights.

Just because you have weights doesnt mean you have to use them :)

But the Quad was a great head.. since you hook you may want to invest some extrad cash in the TP models wich have a more open face.. Some are still draw biased, but not all..(be wary with TM products.. Even some of their TP offerings still have a draw in em) but some heads like the TP 425 and Quad are as small as your gonna get.. stay away from the Tour burners and burners, they are all very big looking....

The 425 is still a bomber, driver performance i dont feel has changed none to much..

also if you look beyond TM, you can get the Ping G5 for pretty cheap with a NV shaft in it wich is pretty well liked..

so after reading a bunch of stuff. I think I need a 1* or 2* open face. Any other manufacturers make some good drivers like this?

Why do you want the smallest head available? The bigger the better.

well I went to golfsmith today and I swung a bunch into the net.... to be honest they all felt exactly the same. All just felt huge and no real feel. The computer said I have a high launch angle so the salesman recommended a 9.5*. I swung a bunch and he said they all have a built in closed face/draw to them. The computer showed that to be true for me. I just wish they made an open face to sell to the general public.

All this being said, I think I am going with a taylormade, just have to decide between the burner and the tour burner.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something ... I've built many a driver over the years ... I've seen 1/2-degree open maybe 1* open if I recall but never 2-degrees open. 2-degrees, open, really?

The smallest head? The bigger the head the more broad the bulge and roll. Bulge and roll on the face is the "rounding" of the face out to the edges that allows for a "gear-effect" on mis-hits keeping them straighter than a flat face. My reccommendation would be 460cc, 425 minimum.

Just my humble opinion ....
I make all my own clubs:

I think a good driver you could get for really cheap off of ebay is mine. It has the hot face .830 COR, good sound, and I bet you could get the old 400 CC for less than 40 bucks.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
