I regripped my irons and woods. The woods came out perfect. The irons(ping G5) did not. The grips felt soft and loose. I have regripped many clubs and never had an issue. I used grip tape purchaced at Dicks Sporting Goods and mineral spirts. Removed them and went a totally different route. I used carpet tape putting extra wraps on and charcoal lighter fluid. Using a very small amount of fluid. Same result. Got the grips on ebay and the local pro said he thought the grips were defective. Got a refund from a very cooperative seller and have purchaced more. Have not installed them just wanted to see if anyone had this issue and maybe some advice.

Is the core size on the grips matching with the shaft diameter? Some are .580 while others are .600"

I use .580 on everything, as I prefer a bit of oversize. To use a .600 grip on a .580 shaft requires a minimum of two extra wraps of tape just to get the grip to a standard .900 installed size.  If you only used one wrap, then the grip was 1/64 undersize.

Here's a handy chart for determining how many wraps required for different grip/shaft sizes:

    • That's interesting. I think it depends on which arm you use to lean the shaft forward.  If you predominantly use your leading (left) arm to "pull" the shaft forward (do this by putting your left wrist into flexion), then the face appears to be closed.  Instead, if you use your trailing (right arm) to "push" the shaft forward (do this by supinating your right forearm), then the face does appear open.
    • For many, that will open the face. So, no. It's not universally true.
    • Day 581 - 2026-05-05 Spent an interesting 90 minutes on GEARS Hybrid. Prioritization is important.
    • Day 255 5-5 Getting arm off chest in backswing and downswing. Starting to make a bit of progress. Recorded  and hit foam balls.
    • Day 2, May 5 2026.  I went to putt today;  my usual make-24 drill.  Scored a 35 from 4' and 58 from 6'.   Those scores both beat the bogey player baseline;  I wish I had numbers for something between a scratch golfer and a 90-golfer available for me (I might be able to infer them from ShotScope?).   Either way, I'm happy with that performance.  From 4', 3 coins came up on the second pass and another 3 on the third.  One of these days I might make 12 in a row, which is something I'd like to see 🙂
