I recently went out and bought a RBZ 3 wood and a 3 hybrid,  For some strange reason after a week or two of playing with them I started hitting my old hybrids a hell of a lot better, (taylormade super fast burner's  3 & 4 , the black ones).  I can now hit them longer and straighter than ever before.

As a result I've hardly used any irons below an 8 on my past few rounds.

I want to add 2 more hybrids and replace my 4,5,6,& 7 iron as I find myself using half and 3/4 swings with the 4 hybrid as the results are so good and i'd rather play full shots.  I am also considering a few fairway woods instead. What would you guys suggest  a 5 , 7,  9 wood  or a 4 & 5 hybrid?

One final question could the dramatic improvement in my use of my old hybrids be down to the swing weight which is D8 compared to the D4 swing weight of the RBZ's  i.e they are heavier so i might have slowed down my swing a bit?

Thanks

It's all personal preference.  I prefer hybrids over high lofted fairway woods.  They make long par 3's a lot easier.

Thanks for the sensible feedback...  I went and got an RBZ  6 hybrid today and picked up an RBZ driver while i was there..

The 6 RBZ goes almost exactly the same distance as the 4 Superfast Burner i have, they are both so much more consistant than the 5 and 6 irons

Now have RBZ Driver, 3 wood 3 & 6 hybrid, think I'll sell the superfasts (3 &4) and get maybe an RBZ 4 hybrid

I freakin love hybrids.  Growing up I had low irons in my set and usually hit them fine.  Heck I think I even had a 2 iron in my set back in the day.  By replacing them with hybrids I've made the hardest clubs in my bag to hit some of the easiest clubs to hit.  Plus I can hit nice high shots into long par 4s that before would have had no chance of staying on the green, as I tend to hit the ball low.  A lot of people don't like hybrids, but I would bet that most players (handicap 5 or higher) if they took 10 shots, would hit it closer to the pin on average from 200 yards with a hybrid than a long iron.  Sorry for the broken sentence, but I think you get the point.

I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
