Question on swing speeds

When someone says I have a 100 mph swing speed, what club is that with typically?

Mine was 89-91 with a 6 iron. Is this what others are being measured with?

Typically most people refer to their driver when talking about swing speed.  To be honest with you I don't know what my iron swing speed is anymore, I've been told what it is during lessons but don't remember it.

Only the longest tour players like Gary Woodland, long drive competitors, and especially long amateurs will have a 6 iron SS in the 100 range. Average for a 5 iron is 94 on tour, and it's usually 2mph between irons. The tour average for the driver is about 112, and usually the longest average around 125.

You can expect around a 20mph or 20% difference in iron and driver SS, though some people swing differently with longer clubs or have a different build. Pros typically swing more conservatively with irons so it isn't unusual for them to average well below their maximum. On the other hand, amateurs and LD people will swing as hard as they can and post their best numbers.

For reference, that 94mph 5 iron averages a bit below 200 yards total, and the 112mph driver carries around 270 with roll dependent on conditions and ball flight.
