For those of you who use them or have tested, or used them in the past what are there good points and bad points. Is there any difference other than cosmetics in the feel and performance of the Chrome vs. the Stainless Steel? I really like the way they look and I am considering giving them a try. I have a deal on a set that is Stainless (I really like the Chrome look though) and in really good shape for $250. They are almost brand new. So I am just looking for some opinions either good or bad.

Hey AlRoadKill, As a result of the 735 reviews on this site, I bought a set on EBAY for $400. They are Stainless, 2deg upright, Precision Project x 5.5 rifle shafts. I am VERY happy with the feel and response from these clubs. I have spent about 5 hours on the range with them, so the jury is still out, but I love what I am feeling a seeing so far. But the comment that I wanted to make was for $200, you could try them out for a while and then likely sell them on EBAY for no loss, or a profit. I saw more than one set of 735's on there selling for 300+. Best of luck

735.CM irons are butter baby. I hit alot of clubs before going with the 735's. I have the chrome version and didn't find a ton of difference between them and the stainless. I like them so much that I barely try out other irons now days.

My feeling is that either of these materials will feel great if you play with a good ball, I mean how can the stainless feel hard with a proV1?

Plus they are just a beautiful club.

You would be better off with the 07 Cobra carbon cb with project X 7.0 shafts . These will bring your game to the next level . I do presume you can hit draws or fades at will ? Then these are just the clubs you need to go to the next level . SCRATCH . Good luck and i know you wont be sorry .

I just put a set of chrome 735cm irons in my bag about 3 weeks ago and I really like them so far. My buddy had the stainless version and I played with them for a few rounds before I made the decision to get a set. Is there a difference in feel? I think the chrome may be just a touch softer, but how much of that is actual and how much of that is in my head, I couldn't tell you. I switched from 690.mb blades, so I'm used to clubs that have that bright "bling" look to them. It's just me, but everytime I looked down at the stainless ones, I kept thinking that they needed to be cleaned because of the dull finish (Titleist calls it satin, but I call it dull). To each their own.

I live in northern California and there are a couple of local chain golf stores (if you PM me, I will give you their names) that will allow you to trade in your old set of clubs. I don't think they give you cash, rather, you get a store credit. When my buddy traded his satin ones in, they gave him $200.00, so I think if you can get a set for $250.00 in really good shape, do it. As far as the good and bad points, I'm sure you read the review here on The Sand Trap, so I don't have much to add. The review was very comprehensive and my results echoes what was written. I'm used to the trajectory of my blades, so while the 735cm hit the ball slightly higher on all clubs (more so with the 3 and 4 irons), it was still acceptable. In certain situations, having a slightly higher ball flight (as long as it's not ballooning) can be helpful. For instance, during my last round, I pushed my drive right on a 530 yard par-5 where it hit a tree and came straight down. The ball ended up on the edge of the grass next to a bunker. With my left foot in the bunker and my right foot 8" higher on the grass (I'm right-handed), I hit a choke down 5 iron over the tall trees in front of me and advanced the ball @160 yards back to the center of the fairway. If I still had my blades, I would've probably hit a 7 iron instead to make sure I had enough height to clear the trees. Since my shot would've flown shorter with the 7 iron, there was a real possibility that while I would've cleared the height of the trees, I may not have been able to hit it far enough to reach the fairway. Now that I know I can hit the ball higher, how about hitting shots that require me to keep the ball low? Well, with my consistently inconsistent driver swing, I got the chance to test it. During a previous round, I pulled my drive left into a thick group of trees lining the fairway. When I got to my ball, I was in jail. The best option would've been to chip it laterally back into the fairway and go from there. But, I noticed that I had somewhat of an opening between all the trees and I could see the front of the green. I figured I had about 40 yards of trees to contend with. From there, it was fairway and then the green. So, I choked down on a 3 iron (just above the metal of the shaft) and hit a punch shot that flew no more than 8' high and went straight towards the green between all the trees. It hit the fairway and rolled to the front of the green. As far as the for the bad, I would have to say it's the forgiveness in the longer irons (they're cavity backs). How can forgiveness be bad? I'll explain. I have a 2 iron and I'd rather use that than a fairway wood. My worst habit parallels that of all "lesser" golfers; I tend to overswing. In my case, this overswinging causes me to toe my shots that end up as fades. Recently, I noticed that I was fading some shots with my 2 iron. Overall, those shots felt decent, but I could tell that I toe'd them. The feedback on mishits aren't as punishing as my blades, so I thought I was just a little towards the toe. However, when I looked at my impact on one of my toe'd shots(I was hitting out of the rough, so it left a nice grass stain ball impression on the face), I was surprised that it was almost 1/2 inch towards the toe. I didn't realize that I missed it that bad. So, I backed off my swing a little and my shots started to straighten out. In this case, the forgiveness in the longer irons masked the degree of my mishits because it was not quite as harsh as my blades. This isn't to say the clubs will allow you to make bad swings. Not at all. In fact, they can be quite unforgiving. However, if you're not used to the feedback (compared to blades), it's easy to assume that you're hitting the ball better than you really are. So, you have to learn the feel of the feedback. It's all there albeit a little more subtle.

Great set of clubs. In fact, my buddy traded in his 735 stainless for this set and he couldn't be happier. Since the switch, he's easily shaved 4 strokes off his handicap. Before, with his shorter irons (8,9 and PW), he would miss 1 out of 5 greens with them. Now, he doesn't miss at all with them. I was going to get a set as well, but when I found my (used) set of chrome 735cm with the 2 iron, I decided to try those first because the price was very good and they were my exact fitting specs.

The Carbon CB's tend to hit the ball slightly higher on the shorter clubs, about the same on the mid-irons, but lower on the longer irons. I've compared them side by side and I find the feel as good as the chrome 735cm. Yet, they tend to be just a touch more forgiving. I still may end up with this set, but we'll see. DT

I am sorry but I had to comment on this post. First off - have you ever played the 735's and if so maybe you might want to include that important piece of information in your post.

Second off you (albatroz) would be much better off playing the Taylor Made r7 TP with DG X100 shafts. It will bring your game to the next level. SCRATCH. Doesn't it just sound stupid that I tell you that without any other information to justify such a statement?

I was wondering if anyone was still playing these irons (735.CM)? I have found what I beleive is a really good deal for them, pretty much a great condition (9 out of 10 grade) set of 3-PW (currently waiting to find out if they are Chrome or Stainless Steel). Supposedly only played in around 10 rounds, for $300.

A little background - I have been reading this site for months now, but this is the first time I decided to start posting. I currently play the Mizuno MX-25s with Project X 5.0 shafts. I have played with these for only around 2 years or so. I have been looking to upgrade into more of a blade; I have gotten significantly better since I purchased these Mizunos (around a 15 handicap, to currently an 8.7). I wasn't actively looking for a set though, and just happened to come across this deal. Since it is not a lot of money to be spending on a set, and it would allow me to slowly transition into more of a player's club, this would probably help me bridge the gap to a brand new set of blades in a few more years.

I just wanted to know people's overall feeling's about the CM? It seems to be a positive one from a few searches and from Iacas' review, but that was back in 2005. I would def be interested in people's thoughts on the set, thoughts on the deal listed above, and thoughts in general on buying these as a transition set.

Thanks, and I look forward to more posts in the future!!

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
