  1. well thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I landed a pretty sweet deal on the Callaways that I was originally looking at so I went ahead and grabbed them. So I now have: Nike Slingshot PW 46* Nike Slingshot AW 50* Callaway X-Tour 54* - 13* bounce Callaway X-Tour 60* - 11* bounce w/ PM grind and Mac Daddy grooves can someone please tell me what the bounce degree is? These arent supposed to come in until Monday so I wont get to use them on Sunday when I golf, but Im excited to hit the range with them and try them out next week
  2. Im pretty new to golf, and Im not very good right now. But luckily I do have some pretty good clubs to learn with. Currently the only wedges that I have are the PW(46*) and AW(50*) that came with my irons. Id like to get another real wedge or two but not sure what is a good one. Everything in my bag, including my bag is Nike. Didnt really intend on being such a homer, but just has worked out that way... so obviously Im looking at the SV Tour by Nike... but also the Callaway X-Tour caught my eye because of the "black head look"... also thought might be good idea to break up the Nike bandwagon... lol so my question is, what does the AVERAGE golfer use/need as far as wedges go? Im not sure which degrees would be best for me... looking for some suggestions on which brand/model to get, and also which degrees... thanks
  3. Hi guys, Im new here, in fact Im pretty new to golf all together. I have been playing about 1 year exactly now. But sad part is I have only played about 10 times total. Im 27 and have always been semi athletic (played sports in school). But I tell you what, golf is by far harder than any other sport I have attempted. But at same time, alot more fun (maybe because Im older.. lol) Like I said I dont have alot of expierence so I am litterally learning something new each and every time I go out. On a typical day I shoot in the low 100's. I would probably say 105-110 is my average, and my best even was a 99 but it was on crappy par 3/4 walking course. So I dont really count it as breaking 100 yet... I saved my first PAR ball and actually have a few pars now, but still waiting on that first birdie... On Saturday I was invited to play in a tournament with some buddies. I was a little nervous because for one Im so new and not very good and for another I had never played in a tournament. But it was a 4 man scramble and I had ALOT of fun. In fact I bet I played one of my best all around golf games to date, but problem is I had this one guy on my team who was an awesome scratch golfer (guess not really a problem) and everytime I hit a good shot, he was up next and hit a wonderful shot.... We did end up using a few of my hits throughout the day, but probably 80% of them were used by this one guy... lol Anyway, Im now motivated to get better and play more often. Im thinking of taking some lessons but not sure who to go to or where to go... Anyone have any tips/hints for finding a good instructor in your area?
  4. well i wish i was a 15 handicap, im like a 40... lol
  5. Iv only been playing for a little less than a year, but in reality Iv only played about 10-12 times max. Iv played the past 2 weekends in a row now and plan to play alot more this year that I have some nice clubs and found out that alot of my friends are actually golfers (never really knew before). Anyway, I feel like I learn a little something and improve a little each time out (although scorecard doesnt really indicate this). Im consistantly shooting in the 110-120 range each time out. Im not really discouraged because Im such a beginer... but just kinda curious how much time this game really takes to get the hang of it... I played on Friday with 2 buddies and this 74 year old man was a single and joined up with us. I talked to him alot and he gave me a few pointers. He said he has been playing over 60 years and still learns things... So I understand its not something Im going to master anytime soon, or ever.... But id like to be a little better and break 100 on a regular basis and maybe even consistantly shoot 80s before its all said and done... The old man was really good, he never shot anything less than a bogey (only 2 bogeys in all). He told me that I have alot of talent just waiting to explode and can see alot of potential in me (didnt say it to other 2 guys I was with... ) So I think Im gonna get some lessons or sign up for a beginers clinic really soon and make sure Im off to right step...
  6. ya we are in Texas but are wanting to fly, not drive. So location isnt a big deal. Are there any big name courses that arent private? Again, Im pretty new to golf, so Im not that aware of whats public, but thought it be kinda cool to play somewhere big.... My wife's boss is a member at the Colonial in Ft. Worth but he said it would still cost me $200 to get on there... I plan to take him up on it one day, but Id like to improve a little first...
  7. A couple buddies and I are thinking of having a guy's weekend getaway somewhere to play golf. We are all pretty new to golf and are basically 100 shooters. But we are lovin the game. We decided we wanted to do a golfing trip this summer but have no idea where to go... any ideas? looking for suggestions... thanks
  8. this is actually my "home course" as it is the closest one and where I play the most. Its not most difficult course because its pretty wide open for the most part. But thats a good thing for a beginner like me... i like the GPS on the carts... the local CC doesnt even have em.. http://www.mansfield-national.com/
  9. For me, my best course played was "Tour 18". Its a place here in Dallas that has 18 replica holes. Its very well maintained and beautiful. Problem is it was Feb and was in upper 30s and like 30mph winds that day. Im gonna go back this spring/summer for sure. Has some really cool ones like Winged Foot, Sawgrass, Augusta National, etc... http://www.tour18-dallas.com/layout9...422&page;=12025
  10. here is what Im gonna start doing: http://golf.about.com/od/beginners/s...corecard_3.htm
  11. btw, here is the Hank Haney site... http://www.golfspan.com/gs_Instructo...y/programs.asp
  12. Hey all, Im new to golf. I actually bought most of my clubs and started last year. But didnt take it too seriously and only played about 6-7 times all last year. I made it my own personal commitment to play alot more this year and TRY and get better. I really enjoy the game of golf. So to date, I have probably only played 10 rounds max. So I was thinking, I assume golf is like anything else and bad habbits are hard to break. So I thought that since Im so new and dont really have any habits yet, I should learn the correct stance, swing, etc... I was thinking of getting some personal lessons. But not really sure how to find the right teacher. I dont want to just drive up to the closest course and hire their "pro" and he suck and it be a waste of my money or worse, not help me.. Also, what should I expect? How many lessons should I take to get me on my feet? What is the average price? I did some internet searching and came across Hank Haney's site. As some of you probably know, he is Tiger Wood's trainer. Golfdigest.com ranks him as the #4 teacher in America. But hiring him is like $600/hour and I cannot really afford that. Not to mention I suspect he is probably geared more toward experienced golfers and not hackers like me... But he does have a whole staff of guys he supposedly trained and they teach using his techniques.. The range from $60/hour to $250/hour depending on the experience of the instructors. I called and they said they also offer a beginners clinic. Its only $199. Its 5 days (1 day a week, 1 hour each). You are in a small group of only 4 people and they cover all aspects of game. They video you and analyze your swing, etc. So my question is, for someone like me... what would be my best choice? Should I do some kind of clinic like that or should I get a personal trainer for more one on one time?? I dont mind going to this Haney place, but they are a good hour away from me... There are tons of places closer... not sure if the average golf pro at these other places would be just as good??? Now, as for my game. I bought pretty good equipment so that I couldnt blame it on having cheap/crappy clubs. Here is what I have: Driver: Nike Sasquatch 9.5' - graphite/stiff Woods: Nike Sasquatch 3 wood - graphite/stiff Hybrid: Nike Slingshot Tour Hybrid 21* - graphite/stiff Irons: Nike Slingshot OSS - graphite/flex Wedge: Nike SV Tour 52* and 60* Putter: Nike OZ T160 Bag: Nike Black/Yellow Sasquatch Balls: Nike One Platinum Im actually not too shabby. I know people who have been playing alot longer than me and shoot the same or worse than me. I play as legit as possible. I count every single stroke and only take 1 mulligan per round. (some of my friends scoot ball a little, take more mulligans, etc). I dont really have anything against that, but I just really want to know where I am and if Im improving. Cant really know that if each time Im redoing shots, cheating, etc... I would say my average score is about 110. Iv been as bad as 122 and as good as 99. The 99 score was on a pretty wide open par 71 course. But usually Im in the 110 range. On Sunday I played with a guy who is actually trying to get sponsored and play some kind of pro-am thing. He is like a +2 handicap golfer. He said that I am actually a really good putter. Which he said is the best thing to be good at. Funny the way he put this. He said if you are a scratch golfer and hit GIR every hole, you are putting 36 times. That means HALF OF YOUR SHOTS are putting. So why do people practice driving at driving range 90% of the time when its clearly not as important?? My driving is decent. I dont hit it 300 yards, but I would say I average around 230-250yds. I still have a slice once in a while but Im getting better at that. I do hit my 3 wood alot better than my driver. And I very seldomly slice my irons at all. But I would say by far my worst part of my game is chipping around 60 yards and closer. I cant seem to figure this out for the life of me. My 60* wedge sometimes flops 5 yards in front of me, or goes over the green like a 9 iron... My last game of 114 could have been in the high 90s if I wasnt playing ping pong all day around the green... I dont want to go out and shoot in the 70s... I would be perfectly happy to just be more consistent and break 100 on average.... Thanks ahead of time, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!
  13. I always write how many strokes over par I get. For example if its a par 4 and I took a 6.. I write 2. If I get a par, I write 0. Im not a scratch golfer so its easier for me to see where I am and count it up faster. When and if I ever get better and actually start hitting pars, birdies I might change... But for now it works good. Iv only been playing a few months now and Iv decided Im going to also start keeping little notes. Like if I get GIR and how many putts, etc.... Dont want to make it too complicated, but Id like to look back and see if Im improving... Right now Im lucky to get 1-2 pars and 1-2 GIR a round.... any suggestions on a nice/neat/easy way to keep other information on the scorecard? Im sure others do this type of thing
  14. I recently just took up golf. I bought some Nike Slingshot OSS irons. I then started looking for Drivers and kept reading about how good the SasQuatch was. So I bought that... then I just decided to go all out Nike... now everything in my bag (including my bag) is Nike... Im prolly only person I play with like that, all my buddies have a mix of stuff.... Driver: Nike Sasquatch 9.5* - graphite/stiff Woods: Nike Sasquatch 3 wood - graphite/stiff Hybrid: Nike Slingshot Tour Hybrid 21* - graphite/stiff Irons: Nike Slingshot OSS - graphite/flex Wedge: Nike SV Tour 52* and 60* Putter: Nike OZ T160 Bag: Nike Black/Yellow Sasquatch Balls: Nike One Platinum
  15. well I just started, this was only about my 8th time to play. I shot a 114. I counted every stroke legit and only took one muligan the entire day. My putting is actually pretty good, but my chipping is horrible. Could easily have been in the high 90s if I wasnt playing ping pong around the greens all day...
