  1. If you are a player that practices, hits the range or putting green a lot, stat tracking can be immensely helpful. I started keeping track of fairways hit and missed as well as what direction and what club. Did the same with irons (hit/miss green and if I missed where). Ups and downs, sand saves, penalties and of course putts (both per GIR and total). This way, when I hit the range, I can see what my problem areas are. Its easy to hit 50% of the fairways and say thats your problem. But if you see 37 putts on the card, thats a much bigger issue and maybe easier to fix and drop a few shots as opposed to hitting 1 or 2 extra fairways.
  2. I may be able to handle an X, but I'm on the lower end of spectrum and I'm not getting any younger. I'm pretty comfortable in an S, so no worries. I feel fairly confident with what I saw. Bein able to live flight the ball on the range was nice. I have a pretty good idea what the ball flight and weighting will feel like, it's just much different for me. I hit the Ahina 72 and if I were gonna buy that setup, I know what it does, but I'm right in between. No way does he (or probably any fitting center) have a half inch tipped shaft, but I feel like it's the right thing based on how I hit the 72 and 82. No idea on that return policy, but I'll ask for sure.
  3. To be honest, we didn't even measure the 82. I hit it to give me an idea of what the 72 tipped would feel like. The 72 was at a launch (910D3, 8.5 setting D4) off 13-13.8, Ball speed up 159, spin of 2700-2850 (on good swings). We turned the monitor off once I narrowed it down to Rip 60 and Ahina 72 as both numbers were very good. Only reason I hit 82 was to get an idea of where it would stand. The 72 was fine, Im more curious what the tipping of the half inch would mean.
  4. I got fitted for a driver last night with a company rep for Titleist. It was a dynamic fitting where I hit about 50-60 drivers while we honed in on the right shaft. I hit the Rip 60 (was a bit light, so we added head weight, didn't like feel), Ahina 72, Ahina 82, and Project X. The Ahina 72 seemed to feel the best, but the Ahina 82 provided the best numbers and ball flight. I didn't care for the extra weight of the 82 so we discussed tipping the 72 a half inch to keep the weight with what I'm comfortable with while trying to match the ball flight with that of the 82. I think tipping the 72 a full inch will throw it in the "extra stiff" category, which is probably a bit more than I can handle (SS = 107 mph, ball speed is approx 159). Does this make sense? It seemed to make sense last night when we were discussing it, but I'm nervous about buying a club that I haven't actually hit yet.
  5. No aces here. I've holed out from 150+ 4 times in my 13 years of golf, but no aces, and honestly, nothing really close.
  6. And here I thought I was the only one. I've had a 2 iron in my bag for about 10-11 years and I love it. It's mainly an alternate to driver off the tee and I can hit it pretty well. I had considered a hybrid, which I am more confident using when hitting off the deck on a par 5 (or when I screw up a par 4) but off the tee I have zero confidence over it. The 2 iron is a security blanket of sorts for me
  7. Some people also don't have another $300 to throw after a shaft after dumping $350-$400 on a driver. Im sure the after market shafts are excellent but when tested and fitted and a stock shaft is what is needed, I see nothing wrong with that.
  8. Looking at a new driver. Swing speed in the 108-111 range. Ball speed is around 156-163. Currently playing 983k with Graffaloy Pro Lite Stiff. The RIP would be the 60 gram and the Ahina would be the 72g. What are the differences between these shafts? I hit them both in the hitting bay at Golfsmith and both felt good. RIP seemed to provide more distance and less spin (according to vector) but ball speed was higher and carry was higher with Ahina Both launched in the 12.5-13.5 range.
  9. I did try the AP2. I tried the whole line. I was a 5.6 a few years back and for financial reasons gave up the game. I'm about 6 months back into the game and my short game is horrible. But while my handicap is in the low double digits right now, it won't be there for long. The two fittings I did, both guys said I'd be fine with either, just looking for some feedback on anyone who has played or hit both, and how big of a difference there might be.
  10. I completed my fitting yesterday and the results came back pretty much what I expected. I'm, for lack of a better word, standard across the board with the exception being lie angle (2 degrees upright needed). I hit the ball pretty well during the fitting, and tried the DGS300 (current shaft in my 990s), Project X 5.5 and the DGL. Hit all three fairly well, but the DGS300 seemed better, not as high of a ball flight and seemed to penetrate better. But my concern is clubhead. I love the look of the MBs (not that the CBs are shabby looking) and hit them both well. I like to work the ball on the course, for better or worse, and the Titleist rep said I could go with either, that the CB would give me more forgiveness and slightly less workability. Anyone here have any opinions between the two? I also got fitted for a driver from my current 983K with Graffaloy Pro Lite. I hadnt planned on doing a driver fitting, but figured why not. Not much was done with the launch monitor, but he fit me into the 910D3 with the Diamana Ahila Whiteboard 72g shaft. I know absolutely nothing about driver shafts these days. Any guidance on this one?
  11. I'm finally going to get fitted for clubs. I've been playing for about 12 years now and have been content with off-the-rack clubs until now. I'm still playing some older Titleist 990s that I like, but am ready to jump to a new set (same with driver, but that's another story). I was a 5.6 handicapper a few years (played 2-3 times a week) back and then due to economic situations I had to stop playing golf (stupid expensive hobby). Things have improved now and I'm looking to get out and play more (about once a week is all I can manage). I am getting fit by a Titleist rep with the whole launch monitor set up, but I have a few questions I'm hoping the masses here can answer. - What should I expect at a dynamic fitting like this? - My biggest concern is that my swing is not locked in rock solid (yet). Will this affect my fitting? I'd hate to get fitted (I'm guessing I need to be 1-2 degrees more upright) and then in 6 months or a year, have an evolved swing that requires different specs. Is this a legit concern? - He said the fitting would last about an hour. Is this typical? Should I check his recommendations with others? Long time lurker, first time poster, looking for some pearls of wisdom here guys!
