  1. What Grips do you guys prefer for Drivers, Irons / Wedges, and Putters? I prefer the New decade grips for my irons and recently put one on my driver and it feels very different. Not bad, just a little weird. Anyone else have a similar situation? I know that you guys wont all agree on one particular grip.
  2. The Top 6 in Order The Duke University Course -- NC Carnegie Abbey -- RI Pinehurst No. 2 -- NC Blackstone National -- MA Kittansett Country Club -- MA Crumpin Fox -- MA
  3. Goal 1: Hit more than 50% of the fairways with my driver Goal 2: Keep Putts under 32 per round Goal 3: Get handicap steadily below a 5 Goal 4: Play as much golf as possible :-)
  4. I would just try to keep your hands in front of the ball at address. A little wrist cock is what a lot of pro's suggest. It helps you hit down and through the ball which allows for a stronger swing through the ball at impact. Technically speaking you want to hit the ball on a 4 degree downswing. If your wrists are perfectly straight (most people) tend to pop the ball up, which then results in a very weak ball flight. I hope that this wasn't too off topic. I also apologize if it doesn't make sense.
  5. Coming from a hockey player and golfer like you I would reccomend the AP1's or either of those Taylor Mades. The AP2's might not be quite forgiving enough. The R9 irons do have a pretty big face, which would give a hockey player a comfortable feel. Just some thoughts.
  6. I started golfing in 9th grade and got a chance to be on the golf team. So I spent the golf season (about 2 months golfing 5-6 times a week, 9-holes at a time) shooting in the 50's. A low 60 popped up now and again, and the low round might have been under 50. The I got a membership over the summer and started breaking 50 consistently. That said the course over the summer was pretty easy. Keep practicing. As long as you can keep up with the pace of play, and understand the integrity of the game; anyone will be willing to play with you.
  7. Thanks for the replies guys. I plan on trying all three sets. I'll keep you posted when my decision is finalized.
  8. By set them straight do you mean, correctly? or straight with your arm? If you mean correctly (with your hands in front of the ball) I would say that the best thing to do is hit balls at the range. Especially your wedges. Get the feel with them set like that with half swings, and gradually move up. It's all about your impact zone; if you can hit it comfortably and cleanly with a half swing then you can move up to a full swing. However it rarely works the other way around. Hope this helps.
  9. The thread title basically says it all. This is my first thread on here so let me know if I posted this in the wrong section. Those are the 3 sets of clubs i'm looking at. I can get the shafts custom for no upcharge, so feel free to give input on those as well. I am a 6 handicap, and I hit the ball pretty high. I am looking for a set that allows for maximum workability, but still has a little forgiveness. What do you guys think?
  10. It seems like the flighted shafts are what you're looking for
