I have seen this type of question on here more than a few times. A lot of people think, "Hey, if i put in a few good years of practice I can play in college and then on to the PGA I go." Golf has gotten so popular over the past 10 years, (and competitive) that kids are shooting in the 70's and even 60's at tournaments when they are 13 or 14. I was a 1.2 handicap in high school and played well in the two state championships that we qualified for and was not offered any scholarships. I did end up playing at a DIV 2 college and can say that you could walk on to some teams that we played right now. Those schools are just starting their golf programs and really just need warm bodies to fill spots. College golf- depending on the school, Yes PGA- pipe dream

I agree with the mix and match portion of this response. Why don't you hit all the clubs that you are interested in and decide which driver, 3 wood, irons, wedges, etc feel best to you. You might love the TM woods, but dislike their irons. Why be tied to one brand??

Do the putters come with a headcover?

I can definitely notice on the first hole that your feet are aimed way right of the target and you come over the top on your downswing. Also, if you took a more upright stance, that might bring your hands up into a better position.

Can you post a small review? What have you previously played with / demoed?

Why do you feel you would progress better with the AP2s? For me, it's all about look and feel of the clubs. Looks- thinner topline and the way the club sets up at address. Feel- i think mizuno feels better thatn the titleist. I am going back to the Mizunos next spring. I hit the MP-58 yesterday and they look better to me at address than the past couple of Mizuno models and they feel is spot on.

One of my favorite tips for hitting out of greenside bunkers is this- Draw a small box around your ball leaving about 1-2 inches around the ball. (assuming your playing for fun and not a tourney) Dig in with your feet, stance slightly open. Depending on the length you want the ball to carry depends on the length of your swing. Swing away and knock out the box. Always accelerate through the swing and follow through. Don't stab at it.

Instead of one player have three, one-on-one matches play sudden death. Thats how we do it in our Colonial Cup matches. It has not come to that since I have been playing, but it would be damn exciting.

We have both tournaments as well, although neither one of them is handicapped. The match play event is our Club Championship, so the winner of that is recognized as the Club Champ. The Stroke Play winner gets a nice crystal pickle dish and a pat on the back.

Then who is the Club Champion?? Do they share the title? I just get really upset when a guy says, "I'm the Club Champion at my club. The guy had to give me 4 shots a side in the finals and I played really well, shooting an 84."

No, I love match play. My rant is that some clubs have Club Championships and people get strokes. This should be a heads up tournament where the best golfer wins, not the ok golfer who is getting 3 strokes a side in the final match.

At our club championship, we have one qualifying round to seed everyone from 2-32 (last year's winner is automatic 1 seed) and then we play match play from then on out. No Strokes . Just heads up match play. My question and semi-rant is- How can you call yourself a club champion if the guy(s) you beat in the finals and previous matches had to give you strokes? Isn't this tournament, above all others, supposed to be the BEST golfer in your club? Shooting an 85 in qualifying usualy gets you into our field, and occasionally some of those guys pull off an upset or two, but they never win the Club Championship. This is the only tournament where the best players in the club should prevail, and rightly so. JMO

Play for par on every hole except when the hole lets you be aggressive. By that I mean, if you are in the fairway with an iron shot that you are confident you can hit to inside 15 ft. to an easy pin, be aggressive. Don't shoot at sucker pins and play your game. Your opponent is going to have be overly aggressive, which means he could be making bogey if his game is not on. If you make pars, he is going to have to make 4 birdies just to get even.....

Try the Cobra S9-1 Pro series drivers. It added about 10 yards for me because of the slightly lower launch angle and incresed roll. My home course (in Memphis, which the air is also heavy) from the tips is around 7440 yards and while some of the par fours are longer, I never have more than a five iron into the hole and I average about 275 off the tee. Are your long third shots into par 5's around 100 yards? I would think that with a 290 yard drive and a 240-250 yard 3 wood, (530 yards) that wouldn't leave you more than 20 to 80 yards into the hole.
