Range ball vs. premium ball distance
Stonecold replied to Stonecold's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I took a lesson late May and really rebuilt my swing from the ground up on the practice range in June. As a result of always thinking about my swing I was hitting the ball well and strait but short. Now I feel more comfortable and find that on the course I am thinking about the goose that hissed at me on the last green. "I didn't do anything to him, maybe he's just a jerk..." An than wham the ball is flying (hopefully down the fairway) but a good 10-20 yards further than what I hit when I was thinking about hitting. And I am thinking "eh maybe that goose is just having a bad day..." I guess the free wheeling part of my game is making a come back. -
Wanna help another beginner chose his clubs?

Buy a new beginer set because they are Forgiving and made from multi material heads for larger sweet spots, off set and perimiter wieghted Compelet even with a putter and bag Cheep so you can try and hit out of a fairway bunker and not worry about scratching up your 5 iron Dont buy a good set (even used) untill you have found your swing. Even if you buy another set in 6 months you'll end up paying more for one or two clubs than whole beginer set. Once you retire the beginer set keep it as It's always good to have a spare set for a guest or friends. I just put my Adams Tieght Lies away this year after banging um arround for 2 years and got Mizuno JPX pro irons and titleist woods/hybrid. I do not regreat one penny I spent on the Adams beginer set and I am very happy I waited to get a good set as I know what my game needs are now. -
Are you thinking you can just unscrew the hybrid head and fit it on the 5 wood shaft because they both have the loft/ lie settings? if so I have the 910 3wood and I'm thinking I'll get the hybrid soon (special order so I am not sure if it will be this week or next) I'll be happy to experiment with the two on the range and see.

I'm getting my lob wedge re-shafted. Going with a rifle spinner. I play PX 5.0 in my irons. Should I get the 5.0 spinner or drop it down to 4.5?

Sun Mountain makes some really nice bags and not to pricey. -
Range ball vs. premium ball distance
Stonecold replied to Stonecold's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I think it's a combination of The range markers are off The range is only 200 yards so they probible do have limited flight balls Never knew about the balls or thought to check the markers. Really eye-opener Thanks! -
I have been hitting the range a lot practice my swing and getting a feel for my distance. Only able to play a couple of rounds so far this year but I am noticing a big differnce in how far I hit on the course. Nailed a 4 iron 198 yards with a Bridgestone RX on the course but only hitting a 4 iron 175-180 on the ragne. Can the ball make that big a differnce?

Thanks for the advice. I'm not going to worry to much about it yet but I will try to hinge early once and a while and see what happens. I checked out how late Steve Stricker hinges his wrist and found it very intresting. Once I settle into my swing it may help get some extra power and control to hinge a little earlier and keep my right elbow in.

Suggestions for the 5 wood to 3 iron gap
Stonecold replied to coopster's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Have you considered a Titleist 910H 17* or 19* ? You can adjust the loft and it makes shots go 20 yard shorter or longer (for me). The "matrix" to get the loft/lie is pain to set up but it really does work. -
Changing the loft on a wedge
Stonecold replied to Stonecold's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It is an older wedge and would need to be regrooved. May not be worth all the money that would have to go into it. I'll see how much it costs to re-grip, reshaft, bend the loft etc. Thanks for the input. -
Have a 58* 12 bounce wedge that I was thinking of getting re-shafted. Can I change the loft to 56* without any problems? Would it just be better to get a new 56* wedge?

I noticed that I have a very late hinge in my wrist. I am not over-swinging and I dont hit the ball far but I am hitting it strait and a respectable distance. Should I try and hinge my wrist earlier in my take away and if so any good ways to practice this? Or leave it alone and practice my putting! Backswing... Downswing... Thanks

How often do you use your 4 iron?
Stonecold replied to anotherday's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I love my 4iron so much I'm thinking of getting a 3iron. But please don't tell my 6iron (she's the jelious type) -
Yes I can see how the people who crush the ball need more options arround the green. Thats not me thought. my 3w is the adjustable Titleist 910. So I have it at a 17* slight fade setting from 15* to help fill the gap to my 4i. On a 430 yard par 4 I find that even if I make a great drive i'm stuck hitting it short with my 4i or taking my chances with the 3w. On par fours with tighter fairways i'll hit the 3w or 4i off the tee but than try to set up for bogey if I'm over 170 yards to the green. I'm seeing a pretty tight dispersion pattern with my irons, so adding a 3iron maybe my best bet for now. Thanks for the advice!

That was very insightful. Thank you i'll consider those set ups. I didn't think about adding a 56* and dropping the 58* but I have a good flop shot if needed so I'm not really dependent on the 58*. My game isn't at the point to wich I need 4 wedges but I am struggling on long par 4s and 5s because I have to lay up.

got new irons this year and have some gaps to fill basically have it down to three options... Drop the 52* and 58* wedge and add 54* wedge 3i and 2H Drop the 52* and get 54* and 3H Drop the 52* and get 54* and 3i I'm hitting my 4i very well but not hitting wedges that great (wedges are hand me downs all other clubs I got for myself) Irons are Mizuno JPX pro with project X 5.0 The 54* wedge will be the Mizuno MP-11 (not sure on shaft yet, DG spinner? Project X 5.0? Rifle Spinner?) Driver = 245 yards 3w = 215 4i = 170 5i = 160 6i = 150 7i = 140 8i = 130 9i = 120 pw (45*)=105 gw (50*)= 95 52* = 90 58* = 60 Any suggestions would be a big help.

I have the Mizuno JPX pro 4-GP, this is my first set of fordged clubs and I lost 5-10 yard from last set (Adams super game improvment) I use the 4i all the time. Hits 175 consistanly for me. great for punch shots. easy lay up to a tight fairway from the tee. cuts thrugh the ruff. I'd really suggest you get it. -
Adams CB2 vs Mizuno JPX 800 Pro
Stonecold replied to anotherday's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Was almost sure that Adams was the set up for me until I tried the Mizuno JPX pro. It's a shorter hitting club and maybe a little less forgiving but it just feels right. On the course it's deadly strait and accurate. -
Hello All, I'd like some advice on matching a Project X hybrid shaft into my current iron set up. Mizuno JPX Pro with PX 5.0 Gap-4iron I have an average swing speed of 95 with a driver. The shaft frequency I have now is great with the PX rifle 5.0 on my irons The Hybrid frequence on the PX HE6 starts at 5.5 for Titleist 910 I have read that the frequence on the hybrid and driver shafts is differnt for PX. Should I go with the HE6 5.5? Is shaft weight more important? Thanks
