What's impressive about this for me is that you shaved so many strokes off of the back 9. That is usually where fatigue becomes a factor for me, and I start to blow up after about the 12th hole of play. At that price, hopefully you can rack up some serious course time over the next few weeks of quality daylight

Went and played for the first time since mid July (finished up grad school FINALLY) Shot a 47 on a quick 9 hole round. Drove the ball straight (but not very far). My second shot was money today, which is usually where I struggle. I had a 5ft birdie putt that I PED'd into next week. I had to sink a 15 footer to save par. Then I proceeded to stink it up on the putting green for the remainder of the afternoon. Even with an average putting day, I could've shaved an easy 3-5 strokes off my score. I couldn't figure out the flatstick. Felt good to get back out there after a little hiatus. Glad school is done. It's great hearing all of the success stories from guys (and gals?) in this group. Let's keep it up folks!

I have used a claw grip to putt for the last 12-18 months. I feel very comfortable with this style of grip. I currently game an Odyssey White Hot XG #9 putter. In typical club-ho fashion, I have been lurking around my local golf retailers and playing around with some of the new stuff. I really like the feel of the new line of Odyssey Tank putters, but I was wondering if the claw grip is still a feasible option with the counterbalance style putters? While at the golf shops, I played around with both the claw and standard grips. The standard grip actually felt pretty good. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the purpose of the counterbalance grip to stabilize/calm the hands/wrists? And doesn't the claw grip already help with this by removing the potential for excessive right-wrist "action"? Maybe I'm overthinking this...does anyone else here use a claw grip with a counterbalance putter?

My driving has been really good my last few times out. I have started teeing the ball up really high (in comparison to how I teed my balls before) and I have seen a tremendous increase in distance and accuracy. I would top a lot of my drives and hit these scud missile shots that would fly low to the ground and roll out. Now I'm actually getting a nice pretty flight. My fairway woods and hybrids have been straighter. Not the distance I'd like, but I'm not having to go into search mode immediately upon impact with the ball LOL. My iron play has been incredibly erratic. I can't explain it. My pitching and chipping has been awful. If I could make even a slight improvement here, I think my scores would drop PRONTO. My putting has been pretty good. I still struggle with lag putting, leaving putts waaaaaay too short. But inside of 15 feet, I have made a surprising number of putts. My confidence on short putts is sky high right now. My next few practice sessions will be pitch/chip heavy. I have got to get better with shots 25yds and in

So a few weeks ago, I shot my first sub-100 round with a score of 99. I went back to that same course on June 26 and shot a 100. Well, I went back yesterday (been in New Orleans for a week) and played awful for the first 9 holes. I shot a 60 through the front 9. I swear to you that I was THISCLOSE to walking off the course. I was absolutely livid. I went into the pro shop and used the bathroom and took a big drink of water... I couldn't make this stuff up...I shot a 42 on the back 9. I began with 4 straight pars and was +6 on the back 9. I couldn't believe it. I'm not an 84 golfer. At least not yet. I made a few "career shots" on that back 9. Ended the day with a 102. If I could just get some consistency in my game... Any tips for improving consistency??

I was always told/taught that you pick it up on "double par". That's NOT double bogey! Double par keeps you moving. Now that I'm tracking my scores, I tend to play em out regardless Par 3...max score = 6 Par 4...max score = 8 Par 5...max score = 10

Friday, June 5th. FINALLY...after several attempts, I finally cracked 100! I shot a 99, and that was with a freakin 4 putt on the final hole (don't ask). My drives stayed in the fairway or barely into the first cut. My approach shots were landing near the green, and I even had some GIRs. When I did miss the green, I landed some nice pitch shots. My putting was abysmal. I 4 putted once, and 3 putted a few times. I had a streak of like 7 holes where I shot par or bogey. Then I had some "explosive" holes. I finished the round thinking that I could've been much closer to 90 if I putted worth damn. I went out and played 9 holes on June 8th (yesterday) and shot a 54, but my driving was super erratic and my putting was much better. I want to strive for some more consistency - I shot a 45 thru 9 holes back in late March and missed at least 4 putts for a lower score only to follow that up with a 112 two weeks later - but now that I've witnessed some "progress", I'm chomping at the bit to get out and play some more! Everybody keep working at it! We can do this!!

Best New Driver in the $200 Range?
indykappa replied to deepfat's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I got a great deal on a Nike Covert 2.0 for 125 bucks. I play with a guy who has a Cobra Bio Cell, and he LOVES it. And he BOOMS the ball -
I just downloaded the Game Golf app on my phone. At first, I didn't want to download it because I figured I would need the Game Golf device (the belt attachment and club sensors), but this seemed to work really well without em. It tracked my shots and was pretty easy to use. I still think I prefer Hole 19, but I was thoroughly impressed with the Game Golf app as well

another vote for Hole 19... they just launched an android version a few months ago after only having an iPhone version for the longest

Oakley Golf Prizm Lenses
indykappa replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have some Oakley Flak Jacket XLJs with the G30 lenses and I love them. My dad gave me some flak (pun intended) about wearing them while playing, claiming that I was "going Hollywood" on him, but I struggle with major eye fatigue and really dry eyes when the wind blows even a little bit. The sunglasses help with both issues. And they look damn good!! -
Even before I begin, I already realize that this is going to sound like a commercial... So I just completed a 3-day golf school at the Dana Rader Golf School in charlotte. It was all day Friday, all day Saturday, and half a day on Sunday. It was an amazing experience, and they don't spend a ton of time trying to completely overhaul your swing. Instead, their philosophy is to take your swing and focus on one or two adjustments. I will admit that it seemed kinda corny at first, but results are results. It was probably 80% on course and 20% classroom, but part of that was likely due to the unseasonably cold temps we had this weekend (35deg at 8am!) We got to golf at the end of each day and I shot a legit 45 on the front 9. What made it even crazier was that I should've shot about 5 strokes better but I blew several 10 foot putts. I don't expect to make those, but the fact that I almost hit em (as a result of my improved green reading) made me very happy. Until I play a full 18 and score under 100, it's not official. But man oh man, I cannot stress the importance of some quality golf instruction I will still mix in a ridiculously fat shot from time to time, but the frequency has greatly diminished. The greatest improvement has been in my approach to practice. I now have a practice plan. Never again will I order the jumbo bucket of balls and hammer away at the driver and long irons. If I get an hour to practice, 15min goes to putting, 15min goes to pitching/chipping, 10min in the sand, and 20min on irons/hybrids/woods My outlook has changed! Can't wait to get out and play again!

Okay, so I have floated in and out of this thread since the beginning. And I have heard of Game Golf on a number of occasions. But this was the first time that I actually clicked on one of those links where it shows how your round was recorded...SUPER FREAKING COOL!! Welp, I know what I'm going to be purchasing next!

+1 on the Hole19 app. It's now available on android but I never had any issues on my iPhone -
Buying first set of irons! Help please!
indykappa replied to stomped27's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am eyeballing the same Nike clubs. Golfsmith doesn't have a set that I can hit. I'm a more "traditional" sized golfer though (5'10) so I don't have the same issues with shaft extension I really don't wanna miss out on this deal on what appears to be a really solid set of irons How feasible is getting clubs "post-fit"?? Ya know...purchasing them first, and then getting them fit after the fact? *I'm going to apologize in advance for the thread hijack* -
Help Bill Choose a Golf Ball
indykappa replied to billchao's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have always liked the Top Flite Gamer, but I'm very interested in trying out the new Wilson Staff Duo Spin. It's slightly above the Top Flite Gamer and Wilson Staff Duo (around $19 per doz) at $26/doz, but I think it could be worth checking out -
I have been tinkering around with golf for a few years. My current set of clubs consists of some craigslist deals and some hand-me-downs. I have never had a formal fitting. I have had a handful of lessons over the years, but I plan on taking golf much more seriously this year. Part of that change in approach includes investing in consistent lessons (and not just buying a groupon here or there). I have enrolled in a 3-day golf school through a pretty reputable institution here in Charlotte. I have the funds to purchase new clubs. Should I go and get fit now and buy my clubs BEFORE the lesson. Or should I wait until I have completed my golf school and purchase clubs AFTER? Any and all suggestions or insight is appreciated. Thanks gang!

I really want to take the game more seriously this year. I have been dinking and dunking around for kicks and giggles for almost 3 years now. The game is still very enjoyable to me, but I want to actually get better. I'm going to invest in some lessons, get fit for clubs (finally), and start working toward a consistent, repeatable swing.

Just don't punch yourself WHILE wearing the new Oakleys. Replacement lenses can get pricey -
Prescription Oakley Sunglasses
indykappa replied to sigfan2340's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I don't have prescription lenses, but I firmly stand behind the oakley flak jacket xlj glasses. I use the black polarized lenses on really bright days, but I also have the G30 lenses which are phenomenal...but they don't block out the sun as well as the black polarized lenses. I have played with the G30s on really sunny days, and did not struggle to see fwiw -
I must admit...when you guys break 100, I feel like I'm breaking 100. We're a team! LOL
