Yes. If the group ahead is that far out a will tee off.

I usually like to show up about 30 minutes early but the reality is that I get there most times about 10 minutes early. Just enough time to get ready, pay, hit a few putts and tee off.

A yardage measuring device is one of the best purchases that you can make in my opinion. Knowing how far you hit you clubs and distances to object and hazzards increases your confidence in the shot and proper club selection. Rangefinders and gps units both have their pros and cons and each individual needs to make a decision which will be better for their game. I have decided on a gps unit. I play 90% of my rounds with my father who has a bushnell rangefinder so the decision was easy. But I still think I would have gone with the gps because knowing the hidden hazzards will save me some strokes, shot measurement and stats tracking will help me understand how my game is going and easy lay up distances for good course management. Also gps units seem to be a little cheaper then rangefinders.

Bridgestone e6 or Srixon Q-star?
JBird replied to lostmyballs's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The Q-Star has been my go to ball for the last few rounds. Really liked the distance I was seeing off all the clubs and the driver was very straight as well. Was able to get the ball to check up fairly well on the softer greens but most greens now are too hard for me to not have some roll out. I played the E6 last summer and wasn't overly impressed with the ball at the time but last season was my first full season playing. I should give them another go this season and get a newer opinion since I have become a much better ballstriker and the straightness might really help with my bad shots. -
Are you stuck on a glove?

I have been using the Nike Dry Fit Tours for the last few seasons. They breath really well and keep my hands cool, the leather is solf and they last a really long time. -
I don't mind playing alone but since I am not a member anywhere my golf spending limits me to a couple rounds a week I usually am able to find someone to play with.

My father loves golf and he gets frustrated with it but never seems to get upset with it so it was only natural that he would get my brother and I involved in his love for golf. Well throughout my youth I played maybe a round a year after the first year my father had me playing because I didn't enjoy it. I decided to give it another go after a company best ball tournament in August 2010 I really started to enjoy playing and enjoy spending the time out on the course with family and friends mainly because I have different expectations of my game now then I did back then.

The cavity back AW that is set to 50 degrees so I went with a 54 and 58 degree wedges to fill the gaps. I find the 58 versatile enough for play around the green and also provide good full swing distances.

GPS vs Laser Rangefinder
JBird replied to greenail's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have decided to go with a GPS unit because I think it has a greater impact on the game for someone of my ability. Knowing the distance to a lay up distance or the front, middle and back of the green will greatly assist in club selection and course management whereas I am not accurate enough that knowing the exact distance to the pin really helps. -
Which should be my next ball?
JBird replied to Josh531's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I voted for the Q-Stars. They have been my ball of choice the last few rounds and I really like them. Although I really want to try E5's to compared the spin around the greens. -
The Q-Star has been my ball of choice for the last few rounds and the only ball this year I have bought more then the original dozen I have bought. Played the ProV1X 1 time and it was a quality ball but I can't see spending the $54 a dozen that they go for up here when a dozen Q-Stars go for $25. I find the ball goes straight off the tee and I just shoot for the middle of the green most shots anyway so I don't need them to stick.

Beginner - Do Balls matter?
JBird replied to DoglegJoe's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have to agree with those that say stick with the same ball type of ball as much as you can. Its a hell of a lot easier to judge how hard you need to hit the ball and judge green speen when you are sonstantly using the same ball. Now I am not saying that beginners need to be using tour level balls but there is no reason to not be using some of the cheaper (less then $20 per dozen) balls that all ball manufacturers make. -
Bridgestone e6 or srixon q star
JBird replied to clarky75's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have played the Q-Star for my last 2 rounds. Really like them. Straight off the tee and decent distance. Just got a new wedge so can't judge green holding yet compared to some of the other balls I have tried. I also really like the yellow. -
I don't wear a watch even off the course but think the S1 would be convenient so I have been practicing with a regular watch to see how it feels before I spend the coin on the S1.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?

Picked up a set (4-AW) Nike Victory Red cavity back irons. Almost done with my new club purchases. -
I have been tempted to leave the course a few times but always remember that a bad day on the course is better then a good day at work.
-
I usually don't play the most costly courses but a $35-40 18 or a $18 9 hole is about the average cheapest that you will find around here. I have an older pull cart I got off my dad when he upgraded to a new Clicgear push cart so I don't ride. I usually bring a water or gatorade and a snack from home instead of buying at the course as well. I also play twilight at least once a week on average once summer comes as well.

I use a Nike Methos Core putter. Love the feel of hitting the ball with it and it seems to be easier for me to line of the putts with it.

Should Rule 4.4 (Maximum of 14 clubs) be altered?
JBird replied to Patrick57's topic in Rules of Golf
I recently scored a 1 over par with just a putter at the local putt putt golf course. If not for the damn windmill on 17 I would have been even par. -

Picked up a RBZ 3W and a Nike Method Core putter. -
I borrowed a couple hybrids from my brother last season to give them a go and after a little practice I enjoyed hitting them. My long irons are easily my least confident clubs and the hybrids have helped. I do want to eventually replace them with irons if my skills increase enough but for a beginner I prefer them.
