  1. I'm not normally spiteful when it comes to competition, etc. But I have to say I take MUCH delight in Notre Dame continually being overrated and losing to sub-par teams. Michigan State's D is looking solid, Wisconsin is going to be a powerhouse, Nebraska looks shaky...probably not a real top ten team yet. Iowa had no business losing to ISU. Here's looking forward to week 3.
  2. Here's to hoping Taylor Martinez can stay on his feet. Go Big Re-eeeed!
  3. I'll try to get my phone to take pix here in a minute. I could link in some pics of the chica...but that seems a little creepy!!! Life changer.
  4. Hmm... Not to start a war here, but guns don't do anything differently in a big city than they do in the country. It's the inhabitants that cities are infested with that eff things up. Props on recognizing that bans have a negative effect.
  5. I'm new to the game...so I don't really know anything yet, but I can tell you what helped me. I was at the range and a girl stepped into the opening directly in front of me. She was a little bitty blonde, maybe 110 pounds. She was DIALED in...hitting 250 yard drives straight as an arrow. Anyway, she finished up, and turned around and said hi. I asked her to tell me how she was able to hit so straight. Long story short, she has played since age 3, and played collegiate golf until this spring. She showed me a simple grip change that straightened me out from the first swing. Basically, brought both my hands over top of the grip...so if I released the club it would drop to the ground. (Before, if I had opened my hands, the club would rest still in my hands.) She also had me keep my thumbs trapped to my hands. Anyway, mabye a bad description...if you feel that pictures would be helpful, LMK.
  6. My 9i does 130-140. Recently I've picked up like 7-10 yards on every iron.
  7. 2009 Subaru Forester. NA. Gets around 30 mpg on the highway, and averages over 27 including in town driving. Refuses to get stuck, owns South Dakota winters.
  8. @indy I hear what you're saying there. Fortunately, I live in a state of just over 800k people...not much more than Charlotte! Crime is pretty much a non-issue here. I figured an NRA sticker was less representative of having products of value on board than a sticker that said Glock, HK, Smith, etc. As for the LCP, I can attest to the quality and reliability of these. My cousin has one, two uncles have them, my dad has two, and I have one. We've all had great luck with them and they feed reliably. Surprisingly accurate (within reasonable expectations.) Get some Golden Sabre's...they're performers. In any case, I think golf and shooting share MANY similarities. I'm glad to have recently found a new hobby in golf. I'd also encourage any golfers who haven't to try shooting...and take a kid.
  9. I think I could be described as a "gun guy", I have NRA sticker on my license plate! My current favorite is a CZ 527 in .204 Ruger. .485" 5 shot 100 yard groups with Federal Premium 39g Sierra BlitzKings. Repeatable.
  10. There's obviously a plethora of information available on this forum. Sounds like you're doing quite well as a relative beginner. My next question, not to hyjack, is how to stay on top of it so you (we) aren't starting over in the spring? Is there a good routine to go through over the winter to keep your swing sharp?
  11. Tough par 4, view from tee is limited. Woods on both sidesleaves probably a 30ish yard alley to hit through. It's a steep downhill and then uphill to the opening about 200 out which is the crown of a hill with ob if you go too long and a dogleg left. I hit 2 hyb off the tee with a slight hook, could obviously see trajectory but due to the trees I didn't see exactly where it landed. Drove up and had hit it ~185 which left me 168 out. Easy 6i put me 6 feet from pin. I missed the birdie putt but did par it. Probably doesn't seem exciting, but having a chance for birdie on the courses hardest hole is big for me, I'm very new to the game. Partner scored a 10 (staying in play is tough on this hole.)
  12. Mmm...shot 105 today. Had to take 4 penalties on balls that I hit out of play. Not a great round but I hit the ball pretty well (if that makes sense.). Also learned to not dwell on bad holes/rounds and just move on. Next time I could well break 95.
  13. Good to know! Going forward, I'll discontinue the practice shots, staying in line with the consistent scorekeeping rationale. When I said "precisely" I should have said " I count penalty strokes and don't play mulligans."
  14. I'm in a similar spot. I've been playing for 8-9 weeks now (I'm 27 and have been in sports my whole life, am very analytical...so decided to try golf out) and am hovering around 100. My last two rounds were both 96 at the same course. I'm obviously not in a position to give advice, but I'll offer for you what's been helping me. A. From the gate, I have been playing with people who I think are pretty damn good. One friend is scoring 80-88 consistently (and a 74 a few weeks ago.) Another guy has been playing for 50 years, and shoots about 84 most of the time. Point is, I'm trying NOT to play with new players as much as possible. I figured it would help me "play up." B. I'm hitting range balls at least twice a week, and playing probably 3-4 times a week. When I practice, I start by chipping, and then putting(this part is pretty boring, I'll hit like 20 minutes of 3 footers, etc.), and then get to the range (where I start with my DW, PW, then 9-4, hyb, driver.) C. I score myself PRECISELY by the book. If I "re-hit" a ball, I don't play it (I still play my original, but hit another just to get it right...then I wind up picking it up.) I figure I could shoot an 85 if I took several mulligans, but I don't ever get better if I don't have a consistent scoring mechanism to compare myself to. I wouldn't mention this part, because it seems pretty basic, but I've noticed that the people I golf with normally don't score correctly. D. Focus on being money with irons. Know your 8i is your go to for 150, etc... Like I said, I know I'm not yet qualified to give advice, but these are the things I've been focusing on that have helped me a lot.
