  1. I don't mind people talking at the range to be honest. For some reason I can concentrate with people talking at a range but not a course. If it bothers you, honestly I would politely ask if they could be a little quieter. I agree though, when I go to driving ranges it's not usually that loud and definitely cannot hear people 50 feet away. I try to talk very little in courtesy to others.
  2. Thanks a lot. Yeah I haven't been getting calluses anywhere but my fingers, but a couple have just gotten to the point where the skin is kind of peeling off and they're annoying. I just want to settle them down, thanks.
  3. The dirt won't affect slicing, but it will affect the feel you have with the club and it will also reduce the amount of spin you can put because the grooves will be ineffective. I remove the dirt from my clubs after each shot, just using the point of a tee to scrape the dirt out.
  4. I live in Toronto so I can hardly do anything during the winter. Some sort of golf dome or indoor range should work, some even have pros working there and you can take lessons just to keep everything in form and even improve. Also, winter is a good time to work out, doing ab/leg stuff and swimming are really good.
  5. Try slowing down your tempo maybe and letting your hands slow down at the top. Then you want to start your downswing from the ground up. Starting with legs to hips then torso etc.. If you're bringing the club back on a proper plane, this should help bring it through properly. What he's doing in this video with the one armed swings is showing how if you "drop your hands" the club will come down on that plane. If the upwards momentum is a problem, again, try slowing the tempo down. Hope this helps
  6. I like this drill, I get to work on my slapshot and clearing my hips/rotating my upper body. It helped me get my head around the concept of rotating my body, although it's a bit bizarre.
  7. Hi folks, I'm new as a poster here but I've been reading stuff here for a while now. The calluses on my left hand especially (I'm a righty, as you can see) have been irritated lately. What do you do about your calluses? Do you recommend sanding/stoning them off or taping them or what? Thanks and great to be here finally!
  8. Yeah I've noticed this as well. I just got my wedges regripped (GP Multicompounds) and it ran me $10.00 CAD per grip and no extra cost for service.
  9. You should probably look more towards a true game improvement iron. Titleist doesn't make one, but most companies make an iron with a fat sole and a split cavity, with more weighting for higher ball flight and in turn they are more forgiving. Also, it's not always worth buying the 2011 (or most recent) set of irons, or driver or whatever. You could probably buy a good game improvement iron from 2008 or 2009 and the price reduced because of this. Some good examples of game improvement irons are the TaylorMade Burner irons, Ping G series, Nike VR Cavity or Nike Slingshot just to name a few. You can also go the route of buying a set of clubs geared towards a beginner. I've seen these from TigerShark, Founders Club and Jazz, just a few off the top of my head. I currently have a set of AP1's but if I used them when I was starting out, I would have found them pretty hard to hit. Hope this helps.
  10. Just looking at the video of your swing, try putting the ball a little farther forwards in your stance and angle the shaft of the club so your hands are a bit in front of the head. Your hands want to stay in front of the head through impact. Also, you have what people call a "weak left side". Your left shoulder/arm does not extend, but rather it sucks into your armpit and gets noodly. Lots of the stuff posted above is pretty much what I would tell you to work on, but you should also try and get a better feel for proper lower body weight transfer. I don't have many videos of drills as Youtube isn't working on my computer, but try working on keeping your shoulders squared and position maintained through the swing, proper weight transfer and also grip. Grip is very important to all of this. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
