I read a nice little drill from Ryan Moore in a golf magazine (I forget which one). He calls it milking the cow. At the range, when taking swings - go to the top of your swing and then swing/drop the club half way to your waist while maintaining the angle with your arms and shaft. Then go back up to the top again AND THEN swing normally. It kinda looks like you're milking something (a cow is probably the most PC). NM - I found a link - http://www.golftipsmag.com/instructi...yan-moore.html

Inconclusive. I understand why people think he cheated and I understand why people think he didn't. Honestly, the only way for this to become a non-issue is for radical rules change: 1) graduated rough in all pga tour events. 2) in the thickest rough, treat it almost like a bunker except practice strokes to test the grass are allowed 2 club lengths away from the ball. 3) a rules change in this manner will never happen and every time this situation happens, we will scrutinize it to the sum of 10 forum pages of posts.

its the angle that decreases between your hands on the grip and the shaft during the downswing until the last moment when you release.

Hard to nail down just one, but here are my 3 favs for current touring pros: Tiger, Sergio, and as others have mentioned - Fred Couples

I understand where you're coming from. I really do. I even subscribe to the notion that the optimal speed for a putt to fall is for it to end up a foot and a half past the hole. Ask any of my normal playing partners - I tend to get very 'mathematical' when I approach the game. Taking that into consideration, don't you think the approach described in my original post also takes into account mathematics? As in - the probability of making a 50+ ft. putt is pretty low, but the probability of making a 50+ ft. putt to a 5 ft. circle is higher (and if I get it into that circle, the probability of the ball dropping is infinity percent higher?). I dunno, I guess its just hard to fight those demons. I really want to sink EVERY PUTT FROM ANYWHERE. But its really hard to fight realistic odds as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys and gals. I guess I'm just gonna have to stick it close so I'm never left with the decision anymore

I think my original post was a little misleading. I'm not trying to NOT make the putt. I am, however, trying to get it into a 4 or 5 foot circle (the hole is obviously inside the circle so if the ball goes in - GREAT!) My feelings exactly

Tell me about it, lol. I'll never understand how that damn hole can look like a basketball hoop some days and look like a shot glass on others.

The reason I ask this is because I realized that when I don't agonize over the really long putts, I tend to lag much better. Whereas if I DO agonize and analyze (the way I do with the shorter putts that I try to hole), I overdo it and end up putting a poor stroke on the ball. Perfect example was yesterday - first hole, about a 35 ft birdie putt. I was trying to decide if I wanted to be conservative and go for the par OR be aggressive and try to make birdie. Of course I decided to go for it, but ended up something like 15 ft coming back which I missed.
-
Hmmmm, figured some on here would say they try to make every one. To be realistic though, there are times when I DONT try to make the putt - I just try to get it inside a 3-5 foot circle. If it goes in, then great. Perhaps a better way to ask the question would be - when are you aggressive with your putts? (uphill or downhill).
-
Just a general question for the forum: Aside from ridiculously undulating greens, at approximately what distance do you begin to only try to lag your putt up to the hole and not try to make it? For me, I generally lag putt when the ball is about 25 ft. or more away from the cup. Do you think this is overkill or not enough?

I'd go with the callaway gap wedge. I plan on dropping my vokey and cleveland wedges for a 52* callaway myself. Ever since I got my 58*, I don't hit the 50* or 54* that much anymore. Makes room for an extra long iron anyway (which has been sitting at home since I got my set). Crap, looks like I'm spending another 80 bucks today!

How many people use an Approach/ Gap wedge?
pjsnyc replied to md2002's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a 50* and a 54* that I am soon swapping out for a 52*, but yeah I use them :) -
Ugh, how many times do we have to come back to steroids. Notice how I conveniently left them out of my original post

'...If you stumble, if you hesitate you can kiss the crown goodbye. Now if I've told you once, I've told you 1000 times, poise counts!...' -Kramer But uhh, yeah - I don't care what Feherty says regarding anything political.

I'd venture a guess and say that he is simply filling out. The guy is pretty much in the absolute prime years of his life. I wouldn't say he's much bigger than he was 5 years ago - just more fit/cut (and don't compare him now to when he was a tweenager) and tighter fitting shirts if you ask me. You can look to other sports to see examples of athletes filling out when they're in their prime - Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Sanders to name a couple.

Not sure why there's an airline commercial in your post, but thanks for the input! So far, it seems like it is worth it to get something a little more than just general admission.

Handicap established at a substandard course?
pjsnyc replied to Chief Broom's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'd continue doing what you're doing. Peculiar lies and whatnot are actually fun to hit out of. If its with friends, sometimes I'll drop an extra ball on a 'nice' lie just to see the difference with the same swing. On the other hand (unless its a tournament or cash game) I see nothing wrong with the good old foot wedge if your clubs or well being (or both) are in danger. -
He'll come around I'm sure. He's played quite a bit overseas recently and also injured himself a couple of times doing non-golf related activities I believe. I'd venture a guess and say he'll win one event this year.

What's your favorite clothing style of Villegas?
pjsnyc replied to Cole_Schmitt's topic in Tour Talk
If I had to choose, I'd say he pulls off the all black with white belt buckle outfit much better than Phil -
Hmmmmm. May have spoke too soon. Any others care to chime in?

Thats pretty cool man. Payne was a real treat to watch so I can only guess what he must have been like conversationally. I guess I'll just go with the clubhouse pass (I'm assuming its synonymous with 'trophy club').

Is it worth it to get trophy club passes instead of general admission/grounds passes? Just curious what your experiences may have been.

Favorite Practice: Putting Drills?
pjsnyc replied to mdvaldosta's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'd like to add, in addition to some of the putting drills before me, that I like to knock in about ten 3-footers in a row with my trailing hand only. Helps me focus on putting through the ball instead of at it.
