Until 2020, my group of twelve or so has made the trip to OCMD for an extended weekend of golf (and beer) lol. I used to book everything myself using travel websites, etc.... then a buddy recommended RUARK golf. Make the call. It will end up being cheaper than anything you could find on your own and they have access to booking any course for you in OCMD. And it is SOOO much easier. RUM Pointe is the crown jewel (but most pricey), followed closely by Lighthouse Sound.

Back in May, I decided that I wanted to get fitted finally. So I go to the local range and get fitted by my PGA pro who I took a few lessons from 10 or so years ago, who also happens to be a fitter for PING. He takes all of my measurements, has me hit 30 or 40 balls with a 7 iron on the monitor, then hands me a Ping i20 with the adjustment he thinks I need. All of a sudden my fade turns into a straight shot, sometimes baby draw and the club feels really nice. He also comes around and mentions that when I swing harder, I'm really coming over the top. Then he kneels down and holds a foam tube thing in front of me (facing me while at address) and says dont hit this on your downswing. Seems like a cool drill to keep me from coming over the top and it WORKED. So he determined based on the analysis of my swing and static measurements that I should be getting the Blue dot (0.75 degrees upright). He orders them, I pay my $700 and change and pick them up a week later. Everything's great for 2 months, but I'm still concentrating on the drill we did during the fitting because I'm always trying to make my swing as good as possible. Trying to make sure I am swinging on an inside-out path and everything's looking good. I even picked up a club in distance. Cool right? Then it happened.... The baby draw has turned into a BIG hook....uh-oh. This has been going on for almost a month now. So as I'm reading online, desperately trying to figure out what is going on, I'm seeing that an upright lie can actually encourage a hook. UGH...so my swing has gotten better, but I just wasted 700 on a lie angle based on my original faulty swing? Here's the question, should I ask to have the lie adjusted back to standard by them based on this or ask for a re-fitting or what? My scores have jumped from high seventies/low eighties to low to high 90s all because of this hook that is out of control and the adjustments i am now trying to make. Every round is a grinding 4 hours of damage control... Hit me with suggestions... I'm all ears. Thanks!

I've always had a fairly violent (for lack of a better word) swing which has produced a nice fade off the tee for the past 10 years. Unfortunately, I slipped on our deck a few weeks back and have been having a lot of pain swinging the golf club (specifically AFTER impact) in my upper left inner thigh area. Today's round was pretty painful to the point of where I couldn't take more than a 40-50% swing because the pain was unbearable. The weird thing is, with driver especially, I noticed I was getting almost equivalent distance (in the air) with a slight draw?? Needless to say I was shocked (as were the guys I've been playing with forever). Can any of you swing experts explain to me why this may have been happening? This is something I'd really like to work on, to keep my distances up as I get older. Thanks for any input you all may have.

Anyone have any experience with this? I don't care for the stock grip. It's also been on there at least 9 -10 years (just picked the club up in a trade with a friend). Apparently, stock grips (.580 and .600 diameter) will not fit on the shaft due to the wider diameter of the bubble shaft. I hit it straight and get good distance with it, so I'd like to use it for awhile. But the grip has got to go. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can You Make a "Super" 3W for off the tee?
cookedonphonics replied to MikeLowry5's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My suggestion would be to NOT do ANYTHING to that 3 wood you have. If you hit it 250 and straight, don't F with it. If you want to hit a driver better, work on that club, or try out some different used drivers at your local shop, or buy one on eBay for cheap. Sounds like that 3 wood is pretty good to you. A "go-to" club so to speak. Don't fix it if it is not broken. -
Just found out something about Forged Irons
cookedonphonics replied to Gnohymmas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
HAHA! Indeed you are, sir! lol -
For years i had thought having a 64 would help me, so I bought one. I used it for a couple of years. There's definitely a time to use it and a time to leave it in the bag. Problem is, I wanted to use it ALL (or most) of the time because the shots it produces around the green are SOOO pretty. Unfortunately, skulling chips is also a specialty of this club....lol For me it was 75% good/ 25% skulled over the green, leaving me worse off than I was before hitting the 1st shot with the 64. I switched to a 60 and have had much better results. The 64 now sits in the garage with the driver that added 20 yards to my tee shot, but had me in the woods twice as much...lol

Those Zero Restriction gloves look sweet. $20 at Golf Warehouse. I'll be placing my order today. Also, I went with Winn Excel AVS AI Graphite/Red. A bit pricey at 5.60 per grip, but they felt SO much more comfortable in my hands than the others I had tried, and they weren't as "mushy" as the regular Winn Excel. I may have found a winner. Thanks to all for helping me make my decision.

I used to play with Win Excel grips which are super comfortable. I've put up my best scores of all time with these grips, BUT they are horrible if they get wet AT ALL. If it's starts raining, I just want to go home, because my round is basically shot due to the fact that I can't hold onto the clubs comfortably.... which in turn, means I start changing things in my swing to prevent this from happening, etc...always a BAD move. SO... I decided to try other grips and my scores just got worse and worse as my right hand was just taking a beating. I tried: Golf Pride New Decade Multi--tears up my right index finger Golf Pride Tour Velvet-same Golf Pride Tour Wrap-feels hard as a rock. (maybe the new 2g's are different...we'll see i suppose) Lamkin crossline-super slick. Felt like I was going to send the club flying everytime I would swing. Zero confidence with this grip. I also tried the Winn DSI but they were slick in a different kind of way (hard to describe) I have a firm grip, but I'm not "white knuckling" the club either. Solid, but not strangling the club. I thought about giving the Golf Pride Whisper a try, but it seems as though they were discontinued. I'm about ready to consider going to (ugh) 2 gloves if I can't get this resolved. However... the ridicule I will take for being "that guy" will be relentless from the guys I play with...lol Anybody have any other ideas of a soft grip that doesn't turn into a slimy mess if it gets wet?

I've been anxiously waiting for these to arrive so I can put them on, but it was taking forever, so I sent an email to the place I ordered them from and here's the response I got (in case anybody else was waiting also): "Golf Pride had a recall on the first shipment of these grips due to a problem with the chemical being used on the grips. A new shipment is arriving next week and will be shipping pending orders." Just a heads up for anybody else waiting on these.

Need help chosing irons.
cookedonphonics replied to cookedonphonics's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks to all for your thoughts and insights... I decided to go with used Titleist 755's. They arrived today in MINT condition... pretty good for 192.00 plus shipping. :) -
Looking for new(er) irons to get back on track. Had a set of DCI blacks for about 5 years. They were right for me at the time, but I started getting better and felt it was time to move up to the next level of clubs. So I bought a set of Mizuno MP-60's. Nice clubs. Unfortunately, if I was having a swing consistency "off" day (everybody has them) these clubs killed me. Basically, depending on the day, my consistent old DCI's would give me scores of 82-88, however the MP-60's were either great, or erratic, and could put me anywhere between 78 and 92. So...I'm looking to get back to more consistent clubs. Maybe a more updated/advanced version of the DCI blacks or similar...? I'm a big fan of eBay and prefer buying a nice USED set of clubs as opposed to spending hundreds of dollars more for a new set of clubs I may not be happy with anyway. I'm thinking the 2003-2008 year range... I have a couple in mind (Titleist 804s, Mizuno MX 23, and Ping G2 or G5), but I'm curious to hear everybody elses thoughts... Thanks in advance.

So I got my "slightly used" Mizuno MP-60's w/DG stiff shafts two days ago and played them for the first time today. One word... WOW! I love 'em. The feel is amazing. I was playing Titleist DCI blacks with Reg flex for about ten years but just felt like I needed to get up to date with techology a bit. Here's the only potential problem I see... I was really precise with my DCI short irons (7-PW)on most days with a pretty straight ball flight. The longer irons were always more of a struggle with a fade tendency if I even made solid contact. Here's the weird part... I am now producing a HEAVY draw with the MP-60 short irons (7-PW) and a straight ball to slight draw on the longer irons, but The MP-60's have STIFF SHAFTS... I don't get it. LOL Everything seems backwards according to what should've happened based on what I've read. Anybody have any insight to this phenomena??? I do love the feel of these clubs, so they're not going ANYWHERE, but I figured I'd ask before I started tinkering with my swing that has been so good to me for so long. Thoughts? .....
