I'm self taught for the most part so I would film my swing and break down every little thing to try and match my positions to the common positions that most pros share.. id say i have good positions but I do have a lot of bad habits. most important thing is stick with what works and keep practicing. just think of furyk. ugly but very effective. theres no right way.

lol stfu. i just want to make sure I'm swinging right.

I've got this habit of snapping my left leg straight occasionally at impact. it stops my turn and my hands through and i double cross. anybody heard of such a problem and any drills to help? thanks

The inside to inside swing path.
threejack replied to alexander19's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
looks to me like youre bringing the club inside too much on the backswing and then it causes you to come over the top a little, hence your fade. i used to have the same exact problem. easiest way to fix it it to make a wider arc. reach out with your hands on the backswing almost like youre coming back outside the plane, from there you only have one place to go, back to the plane or even slightly inside. -
with the driver i have started teeing it about a ball or 2 inside of my front heel. helps me catch it from the inside a little better without flipping my hands after it. yes the idea with teeing it forward is to minimize backspin but also because your arms are still extending through the target zone.

Wearing Golf Shoes to the Driving Range
threejack replied to JAYDEE3's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
heres how id put it: i wouldn't be able to swing in tennis shoes, id fall over. regular shoes just can't handle the torque of your feet -
people say you should have loose wrists but when i loosen my wrists i think i create way too much lag too control. is it possible to have too loose of wrists because when my wrists are loose with my driver its all bad however when i control my wrists to 90 degrees of lag and make a nice wide turn i hit the ball straight as an arrow with a gorgeous ball flight. what do you think??

my swing is officially jacked up. help me start fresh

its funny you say that because I've been told my hips move too much forward and my hands can never catch up. i have really really quick hips.. i am wondering if its possible to have over active hips because the only times I've hit draws with my driver are when i ignore my hips and use all shoulders oddly enough, my hips still obviously do something. also that drill looks very stack and tilt, which i know is heavily advocated here but i don't swing that way so I'm not sure if i want to work on a drill that doesn't necessarily go with my swing. i have an upright swing with lots of rotation in both my body and hands. not too sporadic and very powerful. I'm starting to feel how the left arm helps with accuracy and right arm controls a lot of power. my left side is really weak do to a broken collar bone and i wonder if that hinders my ability to pull the club head quickly and to hit it hard i push it too much. i was hitting my driver better than ever last week with draw and i can't seem to get it back. i know exactly what i was doing. maybe ill work on that again. idk. i appreciate the help. -
hey guys I've burned a lot of things in my brain and now i just have this combination of too many things in my swing and my head is cluttered on the course and i have absolutely no confidence. basically i just want to know the fundamentals to the modern golf swing because I'm surely doing something wrong. i have two things that are driving me crazy about my game lately: 1. driver slice got rid of it once upon a time but its come back into my game recently. something tells me I'm hitting at the ball instead of swinging because my grip and forearms have been tight lately, been swinging it like an iron. 2. LOW ball flight its definitely a piercing ball flight and i like how I've been compressing my irons but for some reason they're not climbing. perhaps I'm not coming down on it enough? i have no clue. golf has become really unenjoyable for me lately :( I've been playing bogey golf for awhile and its plateaued and actually gotten worse in my attempt to get closer to par golf by tweaking my swing. HELP ME!

im in this predicament right now. i can hit my driver straight by just turning my shoulders on a flat plane and keeping the driver plane relatively flat but i can also do it by dropping it in the slot. i like the second one because the other one i sometimes snap hook and the second tends to produce better distance.

Whats the best 3 wood for under $200?
threejack replied to Jakester23's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
everyones gonna tell you the same thing. you should find a club that works best for you so maybe hit them all. however i happen to be in need of a 3 wood too and i would go for the burner 2.0. theres a reason taylor made dominates the wood game. they just feel solid. i like my nike mach speed driver though. -
perhaps your case is similar to what mine was. i used to play baseball and to get the longer clubs going my hips would be active too early. if your right hip moves out its going to create the OTT swing. try swinging with your shoulders and keeping your back heel down well through impact. that will keep your hips quiet

looks to me as if you have some casting going on and not enough shoulder turn through impact. the way i visualize bringing it from the inside is pulling the handle toward the target with the head trailing behind then for the club face to actually hit the ball maintain your right wrist angle and turn your shoulders to square it up. then you release the club. i could be wrong but thats what i see when i look at good swings.

1. Tiger (274) 2. Rory (275) 3. Mahan (277) I really need a new 3 wood :)

Chronic Slicer....needs advice
threejack replied to NOVAGOLFER87's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
these guys are correct with the club head path and for me i came over the top because i tried hitting the ball with my arms and hands. when you take those out of it and really focus on using your torso and shoulders its nearly impossible to come over the top. it also compresses the ball so much more. look at pros swings on youtube and look at how there shoulders turn. -
just got back from the new dicks sporting goods here and i hit the new R11S and RBZ. Both felt really good but I liked the feel of the RBZ more. my average club head speed was 108 with the R11S and 112 with the RBZ. ball speed was 150 (stupid maxfli's though). the only thing that seemed unordinary for the monitor was it said I was hitting a strong draw every time, strange considering I rarely miss hit my driver. could just be getting used to the club I guess. Regardless, I had a blast hitting these beastly clubs. definitely considering one.

Chronic Slicer....needs advice
threejack replied to NOVAGOLFER87's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
ya man see if it helps. it has made me so much better in the last month. when i swing i honestly ignore everything but my shoulders. everything else seems to fall into place naturally from my baseball background but definitely try and just rotating around your sternum for a few swings. it'll become natural and then you can really crank it -
i played with a professional baseball player a few weeks ago and he had a long putter and would stand to the side of the ball and his stroke was off to the side and his bottom hand was fingers down. he said it was like throwing a washer. very interesting but seemed to work rather well. id rather use the consistency of my shoulders than my arm though. to each his own.

Hey guys, So im hitting the ball better than ever. finally figured it out! I'm freaking crushing it dead straight and can even shape shots. feeling like i could potentially break 80 or at least 85 since i suck at putting lol. ANYWAY, its not terrible but i will occasionally hit a fat shot or a thin shot. I'm thinking its from where i look when i hit the ball.. i tend to look at the ball, should i try maybe looking at the front edge of the ball? any suggestions are really appreciated. thanks

Chronic Slicer....needs advice
threejack replied to NOVAGOLFER87's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i used to be a terrible slicer. my problem was i was hitting at the ball. my slice is gone and i now hit the ball better, further, higher than I've ever hit it because i found out how to use my shoulders. honestly try leaning over a little more at the waist, firm up your wrists and arms just a little and try to imagine your arms hands and club face all turning around your center axis concentrically. your wrists and hands should feel like they're doing nothing. just use those shoulders and make sure you turn them through. the hands will follow. it will also increase your club head speed. imagine a pencil with a boom coming out from it. if you spin the pencil in between your thumb and index the outer end of that boom would be traveling a lot faster to keep up with the rate the pencil is spinning. this concept really helped my swing... its kind of like effortless power. -
is this the reason for my "slice"??
threejack replied to threejack's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ya I'll take video next time I'm hitting balls. Basically I am swinging now rather than hitting. I've never felt so loose and I think good things are coming from that because I feel things differently. I can now feel that my hands don't drop into the slot and definitely come out to in so I'm going to try to get rid of that habit. Damn muscle memory. Ill get some nice hd vids up asap! -
So i talked with my sister who is a local pro at the country club here and we have agreed and come to the conclusion of what may be causing my driver problems. MY TEMPO! Before I go on I want to stress that my "slice" is actually a big push with fade. My path is inside out (I know this because I hit every club 60 degree through 3 wood dead straight, occasionally a nice little push draw). I have been swinging my driver "harder" thinking that its the stiff flex shaft causing the slice. However, my tempo with the driver tends to be jerky when I try to swing harder. Well we all know that can hurt club head speed (MEDICUS DRIVER?). I will be working on my tempo and letting the club reach the top before I start my downswing. I will also work on accelerating it through the arc than forcing the club head speed. CAN YOU GUYS confirm that this could cause that big push fade and hurt distance?
