  1. Having switched to blade irons this year I fully agree. It was surprising to me how forgiving they actually are on mishits. They seem more consistent overall to me with decent contact somewhere on the face. Maybe the big sole on GI irons help a bit more with a fat shot, idk. The feedback with blades is great, I love that.
  2. PXG fit me to 43.5", X stiff and D4. It is good to get fit, especially for a driver I have come to realize. My irons are 1" short as well with X100s.
  3. Yeah, sorry I should have mentioned that I am working a bit on staying in my spine angle and covering the ball a bit more through impact. Less pulling my upper body and head away from the ball in the downswing. It is leading to some good shots, some very low shots and some right side peelers. Does look more controlled and balanced overall though.
  4. Finally got it yesterday. Not PXG's fault but FedEx is a mess. I took it to the range last night and I absolutely love this thing. \
  5. It looks fantastic, I need to get back down there and play some of these courses.
  6. Yeah, it's okay to be creative, there are so many great forms of modern day altercation resolution. 😝
  7. I kind of have to get that Bombtech 1 iron just because. 😂 I've been using a Titleist U500 3 iron lately that is 20 degrees and it is amazing off the tee. Long live the 1 iron!
  8. Oh nice! Yeah we kept going back and forth between the blue and white because it was fairly close as well.
  9. Do you use it much or are you using the Epic mostly? The only thing I really saw when he was doing the fitting was the Tensei in blue and white on the shafts. I know I tried both of those and a couple others in which I have no idea what they are. Haha. I could tell that the white shaft was best for me based on the ball flight. It was nice to do the fitting outside.
  10. I actually just got an email with my exact specs, so I'll share them now so it doesn't get so lost in the photos when I get the driver, which is 2-3 weeks out anyway from me actually receiving it looks like. Head: 0811XF Gen4 12 degree. Lofted down to 10.5 to open the face. Head Weights: Front-2.5g, Heel-10g, Back-20g. It did cost me a little more but not much for the heavier weight option. Shaft: Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 70-TX. I don't know much about this shaft other than it is low launch, low spin, fairly heavy at 77g and extra stiff. It is also going to be shortened to 43.5". I was surprised that he actually had this length to test with, because you can't order this short of a shaft online. I think the shaft costed me about $100 more. My all in price looks like it was about $530. I am not sure what all this means exactly because I am not really a gear junkie, but my understanding is...it's heavy. He said in the E swing weight range heavy. If you can share more about this setup with me please do. I absolutely love the feel of it though, as I have never liked lightweight drivers. I will attach the photos in a few weeks or so when I get it. I won't even bag my G410 driver over the next few weeks until I get this club.
  11. I just completed a PXG driver fitting and it was a pretty amazing experience. I wasn't pushed into any crazy shaft options, or anything like that. I did pay a little more for one thing, but asked for it. I will talk about that and all the specs with photos when I get the club. My fitter truly listened to the input I had which was mainly about how I struggle understanding where the face is with drivers now days and why that is for me. He fit me into a setup that felt great to me and performed very well for me. I just asked for more consistency but we found that with about 15 yards of extra carry as well. I feel like he truly wanted to find something that worked for me and I think we did. I will probably go back in the spring to do a fairway wood fitting. I highly recommend their fitting service.
  12. I think it was just a really hard pins day. The caddie mentioned he had not seen that many difficult pin positions in one round before. He was surprised a bit at the way I would approach the greens and how I managed the pin positions in that way. He said most people just fire away at the pins but don't have the ability to really do so. So I told him about LSW. On another note, since this is my swing thread I'll just add this here about the current state of my game. I'm around a 8 handicap which I feel like I could easily improve that right now with a little more driver work because I am really close with that. After shortening the club and really focusing on more on maintaining left wrist extension in the backswing and a downswing little throw move I am getting the center of the face out to the ball so much more often. I only hit one drive off the toe yesterday. My irons right now are almost as good as I think I can be, the little throw move in the DS has my irons on the intended starting line better than ever. My chipping and pitching is coming along a little. I've found some things to make it marginally better and resolve some of my low point issues. I putt like a 20 handicap and I can't find a grip/stance or stroke that I like or is comfortable. I hardly spend any time practicing putting because enjoy it so little, but I need to probably spend a few hours a week figuring this out. It is especially noticeable when I play on very fast greens like yesterday .
  13. In three of the photos you can see some of the crazy pin placements. Pin was on the very right edge of the green on 10: Leave it long at all on 12 and you have a severe downhill putt. 3 putt for me here: Pin way at the back, but don’t go long. Miss the green long and you are in a hazard on 15:
  14. Some great video of the holes if anyone wants to see how they look. 12 was probably my favorite hole. 16 was very tough and making a par there was very rewarding. Hit my 6 iron to the back of the green.
  15. I was finally able to play Erin Hills. I played this morning and it was a gorgeous day. I shot a fairly decent 84 with a birdie on the very long and intimidating 18. It has some really small greens and they are very tough to hit and hold and even if you do they are easy to three putt. I wasn't a fan of them and the person who set the pins today must have been in a very bad mood. There are a decent number of blind shots out there but most are off the tee and you can usually see the start of the fairway and have an idea where to play pretty easily. They would also have spotters stationed to help you find your ball on each of those holes as well. A caddie is pretty much necessary out here. I really enjoyed the contours and slopes of this course. It is a lot of fun. It's just too bad the green are so...ridiculous. I am not sure if I will play here as much(or even again) as I will play the Sand Valley resort but it was worth playing at least once and the hole layouts are so unique. It is worth playing at least once for sure. Here are a few photos of holes 10,12,15&18 in that order:
  16. My course is a par 74 and plays 7081 yards. 1. SV (Par 4 – 335) - This is a great starting hole, it allows for clubbing down and getting out the gate without too many nerves. Driver also works fine, but it isn’t necessary, and can possibly even hurt your score. 2. Mammoth (Par 4 – 410) - This hole was not overly hard but it was just a fun hole to look at as you tee off over the sand dunes to a gentle right to left curving fairway. Apparently I love holes with a lone tree in the fairway which there is one the left side here. 3. Mammoth (Par 5 – 518) – I thought this was one of the par 5s where you actually had to make a couple shots. I tugged my drive just slightly and just barely missed clearing the waste area that is more to carry the more you try to cut off to the left. The second shot up hill also makes this hole a little longer and tougher than the 518 yards it is. It plays as the 3rd hardest hole at Mammoth and is a fun one. 4. Lac La Belle (Par 3 - 192) – Best hole on the course. 5. SV (Par 3 – 216) – Severely downhill par 3, wind is a factor, club choice and execution is very tricky here. 6. Lawsonia (Par 4 – 439) Big reveal after passing the first mound in the fairway, opens up to an amazing view. Just too many blind shots for me to this point, and this one was also partially blind, but playing it a second time will be even better. 7. Lawsonia (Par 3 – 161) Boxcar hole, hit the green or else. Love it. 8. Mammoth (Par 3 – 198) Island green surrounded by sand, what is not to like. 9. Mammoth (Par 4 – 445) All the other number 9s are just okay, it’s probably between this and SV #9 but SV#9 is basically does not have much reward in going for the green from the tee and more or less forces a lay up off the tee. Mammoth #9 is a neat par four that is an interesting green to play into up an to the right after your first shot. 10. SV (Par 5 – 563) I love the slopes on this par 5, play it right and you can get there in two with the right shot and a if you catch the downslope, miss a bit though, and you don’t have a chance. It also has a very cool bowl like green complex here that can lead to a close eagle putt or in my uncle’s case, an albatross. 11. Lawsonia (Par 5 - 510) I love the tee box here, 10 kind of stinks as a hole and then you walk up to 11 and you immediately are struck by the scale of the property on the back 9. It is a very long par 4 but I love the way it slopes and plays. I hit a decent driver and still had a 5 iron in. 12. SV (Par 5 – 499) - Very getable in 2. Fairway tree count number 2, this time you can go right over it depending on your tee position. Love it. 13. Lawsonia (Par 5 - 568) – This hole was not loved by all in out group but I think the design and choice you have to make on your second shot is brilliant to avoid death valley. It is also visually amazing. 14. Mammoth (Par 4 – 325) – Drivable downhill par 4 with a well-placed bunker which I managed to fly into. One of the most stunning holes on the course. 15. SV (Par 4 – 419). Waste area comes into play more than it appears to do so from the tee on the left and a miss right is maybe worse with uneven terrain and patchy lies. This hole is a blast to play and is much tighter than it appears. 16. Lac La Belle (Par 5 - 524) – Picturesque, with a tricky landing area of the tee, and a nice risk-reward choice. You have to really pay attention to the wind direction for your tee shot as well. Fairway tree count number 3. 17. SV (Par 3 – 236) – Possibly my favorite par 3 I have ever played even though I have not made par in 3 tries. It messes with your head and your state of exhaustion. 18. SV (Par 5 – 523) Up the hill, you’re exhausted and need to make 3 good shots here. Love this finishing hole with the back right pin position.
  17. Matched my best round of the year this morning and also at the same time could not be more frustrated with my driver swing and realize I don know $*!# about the golf swing. Other than that all is well. 🤣
  18. New irons. I will probably swap out the 4 with a CB utility iron as things get cooler here, but so far I really like them.
  19. Working with my instructor on some simple grip and setup issues. I actually shortened my driver shaft and regripped with the same grip(gotta love pure grips) after testing some things out. I then added a bit of throw in the DS as mentioned in the last post to get some nice high ball flights with lots of carry and no more bottom half strikes. I am really liking the extension post impact, might need to work on the upper center getting a bit more forward but good progress for now. I don't need as much of a Bubba move as @saevel25 pointed out that I had at SV to counter an over rotating clubface. This will be counted as my yearly swing thread post with video. 😉
  20. Yeah I really like that Hybrid for sure. I like that you can flatten the lie angle of the G410s. I will probably mess with a G410 5w and loft it down to near a 4w. It was a blast getting to play some golf with you this past week Matt. It has been way too long since we were able to meet up for that. I was super happy that you were able to make this trip! On another note I went to the range tonight and had very good results adding a little "throw" to the downswing. I did not hit a single ball out of the bottom of the driver. I am super happy with the results as I was hitting the ball much higher. Now I just need to repeat that.
  21. I've been taking some lessons for the past couple months. My full swing iron and wedge game continue to improve as we have mainly been working on the driver. I am very happy with the irons as far as start lines and curve goes. I feel I am close to a decent golfer with that. The driver continues to be the main challenge for me as it always is. I've been able to put the ball in play for the most part and have a little bit of speed, but path/face and strike consistency has been a struggle. I've worked mainly on some setup, grip and takeaway pieces so far. Miss right now tends to be out of the bottom half of the club. I am getting closer with the takeaway so I will likely try and add a little bit of throw in the DS and see if I can find the center of the face a little more with a higher trajectory. Maybe one day I can even put a fairway wood back in the bag. 😂
