Thanks for the advice so far, interestingly one of the main things I had worked on with the other guy was to fix my grip (e.g. strengthen it and have it more in the fingers), looks like I have reverted from it. One of the main things I worked on with evolvr was to keep my bum from going forward on the downswing (side view), crashing into my hands and not leaving them much space. Looking at the side view I think I've really improved on that point. That tempo really does bother me, and I'll focus on slowing it down. As for the 'ants in the pants' bit, I'm not nervous, I do it before every shot now out of habit. Maybe to feel 'loose' I guess. I'd like to stop that too because it's irritating to look at. I think if I can work on slowing the tempo and transition I could have a pretty solid swing.

Hey it's to prevent sunburn!

You think I'd learn by now after all these videos, but no! Should be fixed now.

Are the clubs you're looking at new or used? That right there makes a huge difference. Many places also have blowout clearance sales of older models (such as the cobra s3 pro, which I recently purchased for $320). Also check the seller's rating and feedback, and their location (many sellers are local golf shops posting online, having a US address is a plus). Most importantly, use your noggin: If you see a brand new set of mp 64's selling for $500 on the bay, that's suspicious. Chances are, if it's too good to be true, it is. However a lightly used set of an older model of irons such as mp 59's selling for around the same price is more reasonable.

Been quite some time since I posted here. Signed up with evolver for 3 months and made a ton of progress; but because of money I had to stop. After another two months I was offered some free lessons from an instructor at my course; I took him up on it because I really needed someone to give me immediate feedback for 45 minutes. Last one was a month ago. He didn't change too much, or at least I didn't allow him to. We mostly worked on set up and a few other things. The resulting swing is a mish mash of what I've learned from evolvr, the few lessons I took, and my own constant tinkering. There are many things I dislike about the swing (fast tempo, overswing, little flippy at the bottom), but overall I think it's an improvement over the many previous iterations. What would be a good thing focus on right now? Also my tripod broke so I'm setting the camera on the ground and the angles aren't the greatest, and it's pretty dark, but it is what it is!

Hell the majors only really gained precedence in the 1960's by the word of Arnold Palmer. Then the media really latched onto that. Yes the tournaments themselves are ancient, but the four of them becoming the pinnacle of golf and the standard by which all golfers are compared is a more recent development (relative to the creation of these tournaments).

Of course we have to put everything in a frame of reference, which we haven't done for this discussion yet. It's not nonsense, just speculation. Everyone loves to speculate about the future, or else the tv pundits would never have anything to talk about. You're right, there's no way we can predict what will happen. But that doesn't mean we can't use the information available to us now to draw conclusions about what will happen in the future. To think, almost 50 years ago the Superbowl was a brand new concept, I'm sure people were wondering if it had legitimacy back then. Now it's the greatest spectacle in football. I think the FedEx Cup has at least given itself a good start with its elite level of competition and prize money.

I don't think anyone is really answering OP's original question. He's asking if it ever will surpass the majors. We have to look into the future, at a point where tradition alone doesn't automatically make the majors the outright winner. Of course at this very moment, every player would take a major first; of course at this moment the FedEx Cup is just a made for money event. But that's not to say in the future it can't become more prominent. The fields have been just as deep at these events as any major. Participation in any of the playoff events requires a solid season. Forget about the name of the event, or it's age; just compare the difficulty of winning the FedEx Cup to a major. I would put them at a similar level. Why can't an event that draws such top players and has such a huge purse not eventually be considered something better than a major. Already now you see European players joining the PGA tour to try their hand at the FedEx Cup. It's no less global than any major. If the Cup stays around long enough and gains the same staying power as majors I see no reason why it couldn't surpass them as the biggest event in golf. To OP, I thought about creating this exact thread, and imagined I would be as you have been. Sorry for trying to stir up some discussion!

I recently got a club golf team up and running at my university this semester. I'm very excited for it to begin. I didn't start playing until after high school so this is my chance at 'competitive' golf. We are hoping to join the NCCGA (National Collegiate Club Golf Association) next semester, which will allow us to compete in regional and national tourneys. Has anyone else played club golf? Where, how was your experience?

To Play or not to Play when learning a new swing?
vanpooten replied to VegasRenegade's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
After a major change, I usually spend about 2 hours on the range working on the mechanics; each day that I can get out. I follow that up with a 9 hole round just focusing on making good contact, and completely forgetting about the score. I don't want to become just a range junkie, because then you forget how to actually play the game. I try to have a nice balance of each until I feel I'm ready. Then I go out and keep score for an 18 hole round. -
To my knowledge mini tours are like local tours in different parts of the country. For example there is a mini tour in my state, North Carolina. The players pay to play an event and then they compete to win the money from everyone's entrance fee. You can scrape a living on the mini tours, and the Web.com tour can provide a steady income if you perform well. To get an idea of how truly difficult it is to even begin to think about playing mini tours, and beyond, I suggest you read 'Paper Tiger', by Tom Coyne.

I adhere as close to the rules as I can based on my knowledge of them. One shortcut I see posted above is when you hit a ball that is possibly OB and can't find it, you don't go back and re-tee for your third. I do this as well. I drop as close to where I think the ball went out and hit my 4th shot from there. This is the best option given the pace of play, and correct on stroke count? It would be the 4th shot, because you're simulating your 3rd tee shot and not giving yourself a perfect lie in the fairway for your 4th either. Although if you hit a provisional quickly I suppose it would sidestep this issue.

Broke 40 for the first time on 9 with a 37, obviously I followed up the back with a dreadful 44, keep it together! Still, 81 is nothing to cry about for me.

Hi Sandy to answer your original question, there is one Walter Morgan that I know at my course. He took up the game at 30 and then joined the Champions Tour later. He won three times and tied for the low score relative to par on the Champions Tour. You can see his wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Morgan_%28golfer%29

Did a 36 holer today. The am was a despairing 94, the pm I somehow turned around and shot my best score to date, an 80. I also broke forty for the first time with a 38! Must be doing something right these days..

You say you wouldn't mind going back to wilson, I've heard good things about their fg tours, which they have two versions of. They're a sweet a looking club.
-
82 on 18, 40 on 9, I've come soo close to shooting in the 30's on 9 a couple times, then my head takes over and I double the last hole. Sweet!

This may be a scam or it may be genuine, but linking directly to a donation page asking for money doesn't add up to me.... the donation page is really a red flag. I would hope as soon as a moderator sees this that they lock the thread or block the user or whatever they do.

Very much so. Every time I tell a different pro at the courses I work/play at (four pros so far I think) I get the same reaction of disbelief and/or disgust. Why is it that S&T; is so polarizing? I've given up telling people what I'm working on just so I don't have to deal with their looks of disapproval.
-
I live in Huntersville as well, just speaking from past experiences. Maybe I haven't played at enough courses but I feel like other areas of the state offer a lot more bank for your buck. I've played courses that were just as nice as a $70 course in charlotte for $20 bucks in winston or chapel hill.
-
Welcome! I also live in NC, though I'm beginning to think I live in the least heavenly golf area in the state, Charlotte. Courses are overpriced and many are not up to par. I much enjoy going to the winston-salem or chapel hill area where there are plenty of great courses for $20 a round, in the mornings! Where do you live? And good luck on your recovery!

hmm let's see.. 1. play a round without a double bogey or worse 2. break 80 3. get to a single digit handicap, 8 or 9 would suffice

Closest Call/ Worst thing you've hit with a golf ball?
vanpooten replied to MacGregor9's topic in Golf Talk
Was trying to punch out from the trees, unwisely trying to split two trunks. The ball ricocheted off one and headed right back at me and hit me in the throat just above the center of my collar bone. Fun times... -
Ohh the multiple mulligan guy.. I played with a friend who would take mullies on almost every bad shot, claiming that's just how his family played (his dad was supposed 70's shooter but more than likely couldn't break 90). At the end of the round I had bested him by four shots. He looked at my scorecard and said "Wow I haven't played in 6 months but I still almost beat you!" And he then inferred that he was therefore better than me. I reminded him that he easily gave himself at least 15 strokes, where I had given myself none.. shut him up real quick..
