Trip to North & South Carolina
WhackAndHack replied to Wansteadimp's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
If you want to go to South Carolina, Santee is amazing. Not as well known as Myrtle, but it is much cheaper and still great golf. They get a lot of visits from Canadians who are going down to Florida for the winter. -

The Burners are great, I really really like them.

Well to clear up stuff, here is how a typical par 4 happened. We had to wait until the hacker 4 some in front got onto the green due to my friend's 280 yard drives, and the scratch golfer blasted a few out to 310. The scratch golfer would tee off, then I would, then my friend, then the scratch golfer. He played very fast and only took 1 practice swing. After teeing off, the scratch golfer would drive to his ball and hit his first drive onto the green and then go sit next to his 2nd drive. By the time my friend and I walked out to our tee shots, we would then all hit our approach shots, and then my friend and I would walk to the green to chip or putt. we all then putted out. He added no time to the round.

FWIW he wouldn't putt out the one from the blues, just drive and approach shot.

Do any of you play better at a certain time of the day?
WhackAndHack replied to JerseyThursday's topic in Golf Talk
Teeing off at 3 or 4 pm is always my favorite. -
I guess, but I just met him so obviously I wasn't going to say anything to him. But by the time me and my friend walked to our balls, he had already played his next shot on his 1st ball, and was about to his his 2nd when we hit our 1st
-
But up until then, we had an entire hole lead, but we had to wait for the group in front to take their third shots on a par 5 so they caught up to us.

The worst part is he's an ex police officer..... But yeahhh that's probably the case.

I have always heard stories of verbal altercations on the course, but never seen one. That is, until yesterday *cue dramatic music*. I was playing with a scratch junior in college. Also with my was my close friend and teammate who is an 8 handicap. The course reopened a few days ago, and was absolutely packed so the play was excruciatingly slow. There is an upcoming tournament at this course, and the first couple days you play from the whites, then you play from the blues for match play. So the scratch golfer had a cart while me and my friend were walking and he would play a ball from the blues, and the whites. So on the 14th tee we heard and saw a golfer absolutely flip out about missing a short putt, like he brought the whole Holy Trinity in one curse... We were halfway through teeing off when he said to the scratch golfer "HOW MANY F***** BALLS ARE YOU GOING TO HIT?" To which he politely explained the situation and that he isn't holding up play any, and we were ahead of the pace of play. Then the hothead said "WELL IF YOU WANNA F***** PRACTICE, GO TO THE F***** RANGE THEN!" We decided to ignore him and finish teeing off. Me and my friend looked over in disbelief to which he then said "AND WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU TWO LOOKING AT?". Thankfully his playing partners calmed him down and one came over to apologize. The Ranger ended up taking him back to the clubhouse. Crazy crazy day, but I think we are all ending up going to get free balls out of it.

Usually over an hour early.... I get lost a lot so I like to schedule built in time to get lost. But if I get there an hour early I just hit the putting green and get a feel for the green for 15 minutes, hit the range for a while, then do some more chipping and putting.

Not even a cracked smile.

Couldn't hurt! haha

My tendency is to externalize the blame. I feel I rebound quicker from a bad shot if I blame a bad lie, a crow making noises, etc etc. If I skull an 8 iron over the green and start telling myself that I'm a bad golfer and I'm playing terribly today, chances are, my next chip will be just as bad and I will get angrier. I feel the easiest way is to blame something else, and just convince myself that I have been unlucky. Now after the round, I will go more in-depth about why I'm not hitting a particular shot right, but on the course I try to externalize blame so I can avoid exploding and having my game fall to bits. The more frustrated I get, the worse I play. (I played with a guy from another high school that would talk to Mortimer, his otter driver head cover, and blame Mortimer for bad shots and missed putts. Pretty funny to see how he controlled his anger.)

Along the left side of the 5th fairway at the local country club, there are two fences that keep coyotes and foxes in.... Needless to say, your ball is gone for good if it goes in there! It's somewhat unsettling to hear them during your round.

LeBron James gives nod to Arnold Palmer with Nike shoe design
WhackAndHack replied to Jimbo Slice's topic in Sports
I hate to be of the dissenting opinion but I think that these would look pretty great with some nice cargos and a salmon polo to match the nike swoosh. I'd wear em. Wouldn't pay 200 though! I'm not even a Lebron fan, in fact just the opposite. -
I almost hit a dogleg right 370 yard par 4 green. I hooked it into the woods, I think it kicked out hard, hit cart path, caught a side slope. I ended up like 20 yards off the front part of the green. It was crazy.

Last year I had a cheap Acuity junior set and played about 8 rounds all year. I probably couldn't break 115 playing legit. I acquired a full set through my birthday in November and Christmas. I have probably played 120 rounds of golf since January and shoot in the mid 80's legit. Hopefully next year I will be remarking about my improvement to shooting in the 70's consistently!

What shots do you have in the bag?
WhackAndHack replied to Jimdangles's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
When I end up in the trees on the right side, I have a pretty sweet 70 degree hook with my 3 hybrid. I used it in competition once and ended up parring the number 1 handicap hole. Now the trouble is, not hitting the shot in the middle of the fairway with that club! -
Santee, South Carolina is a must-play to anybody that passes through this town on I-95. It's 2 miles off the highway and the three courses we played were terrific. The villas were spacious, clean, and very nice. All in all, we ended up playing 5.5 rounds of golf in 3 days. The local food was great and the atmosphere was very laid back and friendly. Santee Cooper- The first course we played was Santee Cooper, and was my 2nd favorite. On the contrary, my dad and brother liked this course best. The course was in pristine condition and we teed off at 10:30 and had nobody in front or behind us. Granted it was about 90 degrees, which actually felt refreshing compared to last week's 105. The fairways were soft with no bare spots. The layout was well designed and Santee Cooper was a fun track. There was slightly more dogleg lefts than dogleg rights. The greens were extremely receptive and gave a nice, fast true roll. On my full wedge shots, I would get about 4 inches of roll at the most, my 56 degree pitch shots were getting about 2 to 3 feet. I struggled with my tee shots all day, and managed to get up and down 6 times. The first 18 I shot a 94 (49-45) with only 1 par and 1 birdie. It was not a great round... My second I shot a 91 (46-45), which my goal is usually break bogey golf at a new course, which I wasn't too disappointed with. From the whites it was 6198 and 6589 from the tips. Lake Marion- I am going to defer judgement on this course due to the fact the greens had been recently top dressed. While I played very well, with an 89 (44-45) with a triple on 18 , and then an 87 (43-44) I feel that I could have scored better than I would have. The fairways and tee boxes were in great shape though. The person who referred us to Santee said that Lake Marion is the best of the three, so I am interested to see how the greens will be when in better condition. The layout was favorable to my lefty draw with numerous dogleg lefts that I could cut the corner on and although the course was only 6122 from the whites and 6474 from the tips, the distance it played at was much more due to elevated greens, and fairways that climbed upwards from 150 in. After 36 holes, we were interrupted by an 30 minute thunderstorm and then we went back out for another 9 holes. Santee National- My personal favorite was Santee National. The front nine was being aerated, so we played the back nine twice. The owner and pro shop worker had already told us that we were lucky because the back nine was more popular anyways. Due to large amounts of rain the night before couple with an early morning tee time, the first 3 holes were very wet. I started off triple double which did not put mean in a great mood, but I went 5 over the rest of the 9 resulting in a 46. The second time on the back nine I shot a 45 with a triple on the last hole . The fairways were well groomed, and what I liked best was that the fairways were sort of funneled, with large mounds on the side. I don't really know why, but I like this design feature on courses for possibly just the boosted confidence off the tee. The bunkers were all well placed to punish a bad approach shot, and the second cut of rough near the greens were a real hassle to get out of. The greens were like Santee Cooper's but with slightly more undulation. The tee boxes were in terrific shape and the course is 6182 from the whites and 6899 from the tips. These courses were great, and I am looking forward to perhaps an early spring trip to Santee.

By searching the forum I see that their is a lack of threads about Santee, South Carolina golf courses. Possibly it's not that big of a golfing destination, but the prices are relatively low and the courses are pretty nice. I am going on a 3 day golf trip there with my younger brother and father. Day 1 we are going to drive down from NC and play 27 holes at Santee Cooper. We stay the night, and on day 2 we are going to play Lake Marion twice. We stay another night, and were planned to play Santee National, but the greens are being aerated the day before and that day, so I believe we are being relocated to another nearby course. I will follow-up with my review on Thursday. And btw, we are staying on location, and they have a driving range with stadium lights so we can hit the range at night!!

My home course best was a 42, and it was in competition, so obviously it was 100% legit. 6 bogeys and 3 pars.... A pretty boring 42.
