bobbydacron replied to bobbydacron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
THANK YOU EVERY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( and yes I did mean to do that in caps) I think I have my answer now, first check out adidas as well as ecco; Secondly, a week of dual use should be good to go but not to make it a habit. Thanks to everyone, again -
Ecco street shoes - off course walking
bobbydacron replied to bobbydacron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks everyone. Yes, I'm talking about the golf shoes that Ecco "claims" can be worn as street shoes, I'm sure the sole will wear out eventually, like any type of sneaker. I'm just trying to figure out if I can if they could be worn as shoes as well on the course. All the reviews talk about the golf aspect it very few tells the other half of the story... Perhaps there in lies the truth, they are really just golf shoes. Again, this would save me from bring yet another set of shoes on vacation if I can get away with these doubling up for a European week long trip -
polara golf balls
bobbydacron replied to bigbear43's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Hear, hear. I stink at golf and got to the point where I was tired of embarrassing myself in front of strangers...I've never soiled myself but I bet it's a lot less humiliating than playing 18 holes at a new golf course! I played a round today using these balls and broke 100. Golf is supposed to be you and against you, so if I can leave the course at the end of the day with a smile on my face then great. I love being out on the course and anything that makes it easier for me is fantastic. As for cheating, oh give me a break. I hate to say but most of the people I play with probably cheat on their taxes or business expenses and somehow that's ok. But god forbid a 50 year old uses a little white ball that has a few more dimples...ooooh the golf police are going to bust me... -
Going to the British open and playing golf in scotland
bobbydacron replied to bobbydacron's topic in Golf Talk
Thanks everyone. never thought anyone would be scared of driving in Manchester. As a mancunian, I got raised driving around the back streets of Ancoats and Allsaints. I'm prepared for iffy weather, too many summers sitting on a beach staring at the raindrops. We plan on doing the Open on the Thursday, I figured it would be quieter. Looking forward to the golf, I definitely want to play a true links course. I plan on bring a ton of balls so if I lose them it won't be the end of the world. Thanks for the weblinks, I will check them out tonight -
Hi everyone, I'm taking my son next month to the British open, or whatever it's called today. We're celebrating his 18th birthday. If any one can give us any tips that would be great. Especially on where the best holes to camp out are etc. Our plan isn't to follow tiger around, we really want to catch up with some of the up and coming players, however inevitably we will want to see him at one point. Any tips will be great The 2nd part of the question is that we are also planning on playing some golf up there. We will be based out of Edinburgh for the week. I'm a high handicapper, he is more of a mid to high handicapper (damn you short game!) so we're not looking to play Turnberry or Carnoustie etc, we're just looking to have a ton of fun each day. We're hoping to take advantage of the late sunsets. If any one can give me advice here I would be very appreciative. While I live in the NY area I am English so i'm not scared of driving down the very narrow lanes that in that neck of the woods. Many thanks everyone Bob

I'm taking my lad to Scotland this summer to celebrate him graduating high school, and to see my mum & brothers in England. We're planning on spending a day at the British Open, probably the thursday. However for the few days before and after we plan on playing golf. I'm doing this all on the cheap as i'm not scared of renting a tiny Fiat and driving around etc, having been there many times before. I could use some advice. I'm looking to play some courses where a high handicapper would feel comfortable. Does anyone have any recommendations. We're looking to play 5 or 6 rounds while we are there. Many thanks in advance Bob

Top 10 Golfing No-Nos
bobbydacron replied to Kingfisher's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Shorts, no biggie. However, how about Knicker bockers? Those are really pretensious unless you are a single handicap - in which feel free to do whatever you want Black glove, hey as long as its not sequined I'm ok Pink balls...well that one is just too easy. Don't we all play with pink balls Brush, i think that one is just to make up the 10 things Cigar smoking, obviously you have never smoked a cigar. If you have then you would know that its part of the experience and goes hand in hand (or hand in club). However I will admit that if you are Cigar adverse, then it would be obnoxious, but please don't call us douches...that's not nice Here's a couple more to think about... Brush hanging off a belt (unless you are into the whole dominatrix thing) Everything matching, down to the belt, gloves, shoes and umbrella Wearing a red shirt with black pants at the Muni on Sunday - unless your first name is Tiger and you feel like slumming -
As I bonafide awful golfer with a handlicap in the stratosphere I love this club. To those "Self proclaimed asses" I ask them to spend a round in my shoes and see the misery that I go through - LOL. Anything that remotely raises my confidence level is fine by me. This was a birthday present from my son and so far it has been a ton of fun to use. One day I'm sure that I will throw it away when I have gotten my handicap has stopped being a handicap. Until then viva le niblick!

Thanks everyone who has helped me in the past. Need some assistance again. We're taking a family trip to Barcelona this August. My son and I plan on playing a round of golf while my wife and daughter do the museum thing. Does any one have any recommendations for a pair of so-so golfers either in the Barcelona area or the Tarragona area. We don't want to overpay, we will also need to rent clubs while we are there. Any advice you can pass along will be really appreciated. Many thanks in advance Bob

Next summer my son is graduating from high school here in NJ and I'm planning on taking him to the British Open in St ANdrews. I don't want to do the whole package deal. Being English I know how to drive on all those crazy narrow lanes. Does anyone know how to buy tickets for the event. Also, I would love to play golf up there and could use some recommendations. I would love to play at St Andrews but am nowhere near good enough to play the old course. If the Royal and Ancient even found out I was thinking of playing the old course they would start rebuilding Hadrian's wall to keep me out. We have over a year to plan this but its a great project. many thanks in advance. Bob

My son has the 2007 Taylormade Burner and I have the 2008 cobra. I got the cobra because I needed something relatively forgiving, which the cobra does really well. My son has a lot more accuracy and power than I do and lights up the course with the Taylormade, when he uses my driver he does lose 20 yards. The one thing that I will say, and you should use the read my posting tonight, the cobra makes an awful sound. Its this really, really loud out of tune "ping". If I were you I would try out both, but if this was something that you are getting via the internet then go for the Taylormade if you don't have a slice.

Im trying to find out if its just my driver or if all Cobra drivers are like this. When I hit the ball it makes the most god awful sound. When i'm a the driving range the loud cannon sized ping it makes is almost deafening. Its almost embarrassing as who ever is next to me gives me the evil eye. It really has to go. My question is, and I should stress that I'm a new golfer that is not very good. Is there something out there that has a better sound, a polite click perhaps, that is good for a newbie. Thanks in advance Bob

As someone who buys and sells off Ebay, and has a 100% rating, the etiquette is that if you got what you paid for and the Seller delivered as promised then that warrants positive feedback. WIth regards to shipping remember that that covers more than the physical postage/ UPS etc, it also needs to take care of the packing materials and the time to go to the post office etc. The seller does not have the option of leaving negative feedback on someone. I realize that someone who is new to Ebay may not be aware of all the "rules" of etiquette etc but think of it like golf on a sunday afternoon. In order for the day to be enjoyable there is has to be a little give and take. That's the same with anything on Ebay, if you want to get a deal then there's always the option of buying from Amazon, Golf Smith or Dick's. Enjoy Ebay for what it is, a marvelous place to get some really great deals. Have fun finding stuff that no one else wants, but for you may be just the perfect thing.

I'm a bit of a duffer and need every bit of forgiveness that I can get. I treated myself to a set of hybrid irons about 3 months after I started. They made a big difference to my game. Some of it may be psychological however being that I ended up in the rough a lot they really helped. I'm sure that I have sacrificed distance however being that I'm not that good I'm willing to take that chance. Definitely worth looking at, even if you just get a 3. 4 or 5
