Wedges, Wedges, Wedges....
uga_dawg62 replied to uga_dawg62's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I may have mis-spoken. My PW & SW are "generic" as are my irons. I have a beginner set of Knight's, and I can't hit the PW or the SW to save my life. I can, however, hit the 52 deg. Callaway X-Tour pretty well. My thoughts are that maybe getting wedges that aren't Knights might help me out, but I'm not sure. I appreciate the input. -
Appreciate the replies. I think I'm going to go Snake Eyes. The price coupled with what I am hearing from everyone makes for a good set of irons. Now comes the task of convincing the Wife that I "need" them.

I have been checking out e-bay a good bit lately looking at a new set of irons, possibly. I was checking out Golfsmith online today, and got to looking at their clubmaking products. How is the Snake Eyes brand? All of the reviews that I read were great, but I'm kind of skeptical. I mean... I could possibly build a new set of irons with these for a very good price. Thanks in advance.

Wedges, Wedges, Wedges....

Thanks for the help, guys. I think I'm gonna go get the 56 deg. & maybe a 60. WIll probably keep the PW that I have.... for now. I always like to get different/newer clubs. Just got a new Ping I-series Piper H putter, and I love that bad boy. Thanks, again. -
Looking for a little help here. I currently have a cheap, no name set of clubs that I am playing with. Last year I bought a Callaway 52 degree x-tour wedge, and I LOVE IT. It works well for me for anything around the green. However, I have a generic PW & SW that I would like to replace with a used wedge from one of my local shops that sells used clubs. What degree wedges would be adequate for a PW, SW scenario? Would these work well with my current 52 degree wedge? I have been thinking about getting a 48 degree to replace my PW and a 56 degree to replace the SW. Nothing to really base this off of though, just pure speculation. Thanks in advance.

I have been marking my ball with a 3 leaf clover. I fill in three dimples and draw a stem on them. On the green: I usually use whatever coin that I have in my pocket.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it. Looks like some more practice is what I need. I just need to work on getting under the ball? I've been practicing trying to make the club "ski" across the grass as I hit it. Read an article that said to put a coin behind the ball, open the clubface up and ski the club across the grass taking the coin and the ball with it. We'll see if that works. Thanks again.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the responses. Apparently, there is no way I can get a quick 180 degree turnaround in my game without practice. LOL. I think my biggest problem is that I go out as a novice expecting to shoot a 70 or something, and when things don't go my way I tend to throw things. Particularly, clubs. Thanks for the responses, though. I need to work on my chipping. Only problem is that when I'm at the range, I can't help but grab my driver and try to HIT IT FAR!

Posted this in the Golf Talk section. Oops, wrong board; so, I'll repost here. Hopefully, some of you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance. Ok, guys... I'm a novice golfer (only been at it a little over a year). I have improved my game by leaps and bounds since when I first started through frequent practice. But here's my problem. I can get a good drive off of the tee on a par 4 and end up around the green or within reasonable PW/9 iron distance, hopefully, being able to reach the green in two. The problem arises when I pull out my PW and go for that shot. (Let it be known that I use a $100 set of Wal-mart clubs that I bought to see if I like the game; They're Knight I think.) My chips and shots with my PW are sooooo inconsistent. Most of the time I'm smoking the ball way past and over the green. Is it that my PW is not the best quality, or is it that my game is not the best quality. The reason I am asking is that someone told me that the cheaper PW's are made for 100 yd. full swing shots and not for chipping. Said that if I go buy and good, used wedge (i.e. cleveland, callaway), I would improve my game immediately. Thank you.

I currently use the Odyssey Dual Force Series 2 #1. Got it up at PGA Superstore while I was looking for something to blow a gift card on. Was trying out various putters there, and sunk my first putt from about 20 feet. It felt like MONEY; so, I bought it right then. Now, I'm wanting the Odyssey White Hot 2 ball. COME ON CHRISTMAS!!!

Plastic or Wood Tees? Something Else?
uga_dawg62 replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use wood. 2-3/4" to be exact. They're cheap, and I like cheap at this point in my life. Have a buddy that uses the zero friction tees, and he swears by them. Played a round with him last month, and he used one zero friction tee for all 18 holes. I used probably a dozen wooden tees. Maybe, I just like the satisfaction of destroying things to compensate for not being able to hit the fairway. Go figure. -
Overlap vs Interlock vs Baseball Grips
uga_dawg62 replied to mcflynn's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I use the interlocking grip. The 10 finger just felt way too weird. I have never tried the overlapping grip; I think I might try it the next time I go to the range. -

Cowboys amazing comeback against the Bills on MNF!!!!
uga_dawg62 replied to BogeyGolfer19's topic in Sports
The Cowboys were killing me... here I am losing my fantasy football matchup by 3 points, and I have Marion Barber III. That's about as close to money as it gets. He ended up giving me 0 points, and I lose by 3. My fiance thought I was crazy b/c no way am I a Cowboys fan, and she knows it, but here I am literally screaming at the TV to "Give Barber the Freaking ball!" Ridiculous. Oh yeah, and some of those picks that were thrown were beyond my comprehension, but that's not a hard task. Good win to stay undefeated, nonetheless. -
Hey guys.... got a quick question for y'all. A buddy of mine gave me one of his driver heads that he didn't need anymore, and I need to get a new shaft put on it. I'm fairly new to this game and there are so many products available in the market that I get confused just trying to figure out what shaft I should get. Is there any brand that y'all can recommend that is quality, but won't cost an arm and a leg. Thanks.

Thanks... I appreciate it. There is definitely much to learn on this board. Already found some things that I can do to cure my slice, or attempt to do so. I can hit fairways almost every drive. Too bad its not the fairway on my hole.

Who wears a glove and why?
uga_dawg62 replied to CheeseWedge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use a glove, but I take it off in between shots to minimize sweating. The only reason that I bought a glove was because the grip was rubbing blisters on the palm of my hand. I have only been playing golf a little over a year, and I have already worn a hole in two gloves. On my third now. -
Hey, guys.... Just wanted to introduce myself. Newbie here in GA; east of Atlanta to be exact. I love my Dawgs, and I love my life. Too bad the Dawgs got it put on them this past weekend. That was hard to watch. I am relatively new in the game of golf (only been playing for about a year now), but I am getting better every round. This place looks like to good one to waste some time while at the office.
