1. I made the mistake of clicking on this one after a siesta. Twitch boy, and his camera man had my eyes crossed. I was taught this drill in my first putting lesson. Along with ingraining keeping energy down the target line it also helps players eliminate deceleration in putting by indirectly eliminating long take-aways.
2. Good luck. I have a bit of tendonitis in my left leg after a tear and a broken fibula 6 years back. it calcified pretty heavily. I literally feel your pain! Which San Diego courses do you play most often?
3. Greetings from Brooklyn New York. I joined the forum last week and have read voraciously on the site to find the secret of golf. Yesterday I found this thread and decided to add a post of my own. I have been playing golf for about 6 years and am currently shooting mostly mid-80's depending upon the courses I am playing. Three years ago I broke 100, two years ago I broke 90. Last year I failed to break 80 after breaking down at the end of some solid rounds. This year I have promised myself to practice more effectively and play a little less in an attempt to shoot lower scores. Today I added Dyker Beach and Latourette Golf courses to the list of courses on this site where I play regularly. I tend to play Brooklyn and Staten Island courses which tend to be on the forgiving side. In the last two months I have also played: Tijeras Creek, Orange County CA, Strawberry Farms, Orange County CA, Casta Del Sol, Mission Valley CA, and MIsson Bay, San Diego CA. It was my intention to post my own swing on the sight. However , after filming myself I see myself sliding. I hope to work it out and have one up in a week. I would like offer to a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who has made this site possible, as I have already gained a great deal from it.

5. This is one of the more intangible aspects of the game that eludes me. Is it the chicken or the egg? Do I hit a shot better because I am confident in it? Or am I more confident in the shot because I am better at that shot. Some of both probably. But, at times I look at a tough shot and say to myself or a friend "watch this". And, then I am all in for having opened my mouth. Under those circumstances, albeit rare for the amount of golf I play, I play some really great shots: chip ins, long putts or the high draw or cut. I wish I could bottle up the confidence and take it with me to the next hole, or shot, or round... And vice versa, we all seem to yip on a short chip or putt from time to time due to hesitation and anxiety. I love to hate this game.
6. Brian, I think you and I have been playing about the same amount of time. If money or time were not an object I would love to go to a few of the schools around the country. Until last season I wouldn't hit anything beyond a five iron from the rough or off the deck due to a lack of confidence in the other clubs. Last year I dedicated myself to dropping balls from 250 to 200 yards out during practice rounds while playing with friends who were waiting to hit into the green. I came to the conclusion that my poor hits on long clubs were primarily me ratcheting down my grip pressure in the transition, or just overall tension causing me to come up and out just enough to hit thin or flat out skull the ball. All of the extra hit was also causing me to unload the club to early, delofting the club and hitting up on it. I have since learned to swing easier and allow the club to do the work on longer shots. I also learned when to lay up. A hybrid to a close chip gets me up and down a lot more often than trying to hit up with my 3 wood. That's my two cents as a wannabe. Good luck.
7. Yesterday, I played in the cold wind in New York City. After over a month of coming up and out with the driver I trained myself back into some nice solid driving. However, I missed the green numerous times from 50 to 100 yards. My misses were mostly right or worse yet short right having made some hozel contact. I'm sure part of it is mechanical, but I can't help feeling that I choked finding myself in the scoring zone after a solid drive. Inside of 100 I am typically hitting three quarter wedges the distance; e.g. 3/4 56 degree to 55 yards. I was uncomfortable and anxious just standing over the ball, and my outcome was equally poor. I found myself laughing out loud instead of angered because of my low expectations of the shot in an uncomfortable set up. What do I do if I feel uncomfortable over the ball, reset, and then get the same feeling over the ball again? It's hard to be positive when it just doesn't feel right. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
8. Hello all, This is my first post on the Sand Trap as I joined this week.
There are several versions of "short-game handicap" tests online. I have used Dave Pelz', but there are many others.
I got a lot out of Pelz Short Game Bible. But, I never actually put the short game handicap to work. I know what I will be working on my next time out. It's too bad winter finally showed up.
9. I've tried both ways, but currently ground my putter. I find it helps me to keep my hands tension free. I also eliminated all practice strokes per David Stockton's Putt to Win. The two together have helped me get off the green quicker with less putts on the card.
