I personally consider Eric to be the most rude at times. He can be a major smart ass, he never has an encouraging word to say, which probably promotes other people to follow his lead. I know exactly what it feels like to state my opinion in the forums and have someone shoot it down. I once posted something to do with the fact that I played at a highly competitive level. I went on to say that given the right doors would open, I could possibly tune my game up to the point it would contend on tour. I said that given 5 years and unlimited rescources I could be playing on the Web.com tour. You would've thought I said Santa Claus wasn't real!! I've never met or played golf with a single one of you, but yet I received much criticism. It's very highschool-ish and unprofessional the way some people verbally attack. It's just par for this website... get use to it.

I would agree that it does Rory a disservice to make a direct comparison to Tiger... at any point. It's simply not fair to Rory. I honestly don't think he is the golfer that Tiger once was. To quote Graeme McDowell: Tiger is a once in a lifetime golf talent, and Rory is a once in a decade golf talent. My thoughts behind starting this thread were to simply say: I am once again feeling the buzz and excitement of an unbelievably talented golfer making his way onto the scene. I think everyone can agree, they too are feeling something special again. Rory is to Tiger as Tom Watson was to Jack Nicholas. He is an exceptionaly great golfer who is the only person worthy in the last 25 years to be compared to the most elite of this sport.

I wrote that a month ago when he was missing putts, and it was meant to be sarcastic. Check the time frame. And by the way, I'm the thread starter... so no, I don't think he is a chump. I think McIlroy is the "it" guy right now.

2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Ocean Course Thread
scottyjoe145 replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
Look... if it quacks like a duck it must be a duck. Those things sure do look like bunkers. Just because the PGA deemed them to be played "through the green" doesn't mean they get a new name. -

Quote: I saw a few bunkers myself in the 18th fairway on Live From the PGA Championship last night. I haven't played the course but i can see the TV just fine. I think iacas is trying to say the bunkers are played "through the green" which means they are not technically played as a hazard. A picture of the 10th green at Kiawah with a... you guessed it!! http://golfweek.com/news/2012/aug/05/pga-championship-ocean-course-hole-hole/ -
Brandel Chamblee (Again) Calls for Tiger to Ditch Sean Foley
scottyjoe145 replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
I think Chamblee's beef is with mainly with GOLF and the general direction it's heading. However, he could've chosen a better way to voice his frustration than to use Tiger as the centerpiece of his opinions. I personally think that in order to stay out front in this sport you have to continually work on your game. Tiger will most likely win a few more majors. If that happens it will ultimately be because of the talent that Tiger posesses and the hard work/dedication that he put into his game. Foley will be praised, but Tiger should ultimately recieve the glory. This is the reason that Chamblee's argument has no merit. -

I forget most of you are northerners... We slap our bitches around here and tell 'em to cook us some supper. I mean really, you guys could work for the democratic party the way you've mis-construed what I've said! -

I agree with everything you just said. I also understood exactly what iacas and others were insinuating. Thank you for saying it with taste instead of an unprofessional barrage of insults. There tends to be a high school method of ganging up and throwing a punch in these forums when someone is getting attacked for his personal opinion. My post was merely to tell a humorous version of my efforts in the adventure of teaching my wife to play golf. Obviously I miscalculated the age and maturity of the audiance. It is also entirely possible they are among the men I spoke of that check their manhood at the door when they go home. -

What is all this "holier than thou" shit your throwing?? Your post (#64) says "Don't"... as if to say "don't attempt to take your woman to play golf with you." You then followed it up with a quote you deemed hilarious about how its always the guys fault. Have you changed sides now? Maybe you should change your avatar to a bandwagon... -
Experience with teaching girlfriends how to golf?

No, but I married a humdinger of a female. I love her to death, but... lets just say damn good looking does not = considerate, self-less, & understanding. I wrote that post mainly for enjoyment, but mostly from experiance. Not every man is blessed enuff to find a perfect woman. Men, we fall into one of two catagories: you are either one of the fortunate ones who doesnt realize how whipped into shape you are, or you haven't been married long enough to see the needy side of a woman. Ten years and a few kids into a marriage and she'll try to have you tuned up like a NASCAR. It's in their genetics... -

To all women: Men dream about a woman that simply enjoys the game of golf and is a pleasure to play with (I know I've had this dream ). Its not even about how well you learn to play the game (because we all know the last reason we brought you was for competition). The reason men want to share their interests in golf is because of the joys, heartaches, frustrations, and rewards that sadly bring us satisfaction. All men ask is that you come, you participate, you give it your best effort, and try to have fun. We are letting you peek into our adolescent minds and see what makes us tick. We want you to somehow get a better understanding of how we enjoy ourselves outside of your "death gripping" boundaries. Seriously, I think every guy on this forum can agree with that. To all men: The reality however is, if your wife/girlfriend/female is learning this game because of your interest in golf and not hers, IT WILL NEVER WORK. I can assure you, your significant other will only compound your frustrations on the course. It is not possible for a female to enjoy you, while you engage in something you enjoy. They see it as competition for your time, attention, and money they could otherwise be spending on themselves. They will sabotage this wonderful day you have planned, and attempt to create all manner of confusion inside your head full of mush. You see, women are selfish to the core. It is fantasy to think you can teach a woman anything about what this game means to you. The outcome: After you attempt this dreadfully unnecessary process of teaching a female anything , there are two possible outcomes. 1) The lesser men will be convinced by their significant other that this time bandit of a game should be categorized as "less important than she is." He will unwillingly have to lay down his hobby to pursue her interests, and reluctantly begin hanging his nuts on the door when he enters his home from that point forward. 2) The men with more testicular fortitude will begin to understand their mistake early in the first hole, and will not be able to un-say those harsh (but true) words of "this was a mistake." That will lead all manner of hell being unleashed upon him for the remaining 17 holes. As you can see, neither outcomes are the least bit appealing, leading me to my conclusion below... Conclusion: Golf is a game that is meant to be enjoyed. To further complicate an already complicated game is not only foolish, it is unnecessary. Please do not attempt to include your female companion in this part of your life's journey, unless you are a glutton for punishment. -

Please do not attempt to teach a female over the age of 18 to play golf. You are opening a door that will lead to total destruction of your relationship with that female. You have been warned! -
Thanks for the advice guys. I am using an inversion table and incorporating physical therapy back excercises and it seems to help. I have not played since Memorial Day weekend (2 months) and I can already tell a difference in the strength I have in my back. I still have a severe sciatic nereve issue though, even after all the time off. I'm told by my chiropractor that staying adjusted, will keep the pressure and tension off the aggrivated areas. Honestly, I think the chiropractor has helped, but I'm getting some advice to stay away from them. I've been going to this guy for years and I really can't say that its helped because I'm obviously hurting now. Why should (or shouldn't) I see a chiropractor??
-
I've been plagued with a bad back for many years. I have a bulging disc and have been warned if I keep playing it will cause further damage. I'm not what they consider a "surgical candidate" now, but my back is giving me fits. I battle sciatic nerve issues and muscle fatigue every time I play. My chiropractor bill is sometimes as high as my monthly dues at the club. The point being, its becoming too much. If I keep playing I could end up having a surgery, and in the meantime I'm going through serious discomfort. My question is, should I just quit playing altogether and save my back?? Should I keep playing until I need surgery, have the surgery, and continue to keep golf as a part of my life?? (Question for people that have had a back surgery) Is it worth having a surgery? Will it be better on the other side?

How do you handle it when you have mentally checked out during a round?
scottyjoe145 replied to Big C's topic in Golf Talk
Assuming you are in a situation that you keeps you from calling it a practice round, you just get gritty. If not, call it a practice round as some of these other guys have said. I'm not saying scratch it just because your not playing well... I'm saying scratch it if you mentally just aren't wanting to play. -
I have a wife and 2 kids and a wonderful job... no way I can leave all that.
-
The gap is numerically bigger... yes. I could teach a guy that shoots 100 to hit his driver in the fairway and he'll shave off 8 strokes at least. On the flip side, there's no physical way a scratch golfer can shave 8 strokes off in any time frame. On that we agree. It is a shame that we can't arrange it, because I'd guarantee that given 5 years and unlimited funds, I myself could make the Nationwide, if not the PGA tour.

The qualifier is for 2 spots in the field I think... maybe one. They miss it of course, usually to a PRO or a CHAMPIONS tour guy... which usually sparks the whole bitch session of what they could do if they made it their profession. Obviously it's their opinion that they could make it. It makes for a good discussion.

How many guys in the history of golf have received fully exempt status via Q-school? One week of their life they played better than the rest. That doesn't mean they are the best in the world... it means they kept it together for one week. The best in the world is determined over a period of time... a career... in which they get all kinds of nice shit and perks that we don't get to enjoy. There are many out there that do not have this luxury. You mean to tell me that Dennis Miller and Casey Martin flew into Olympic Club a few months back and played a few practice rounds?? Or maybe they got there early last week and started practice early.

Enuff to see them miss the same shots, and make the same mistakes I do. They are not flawless...

I realize I'm walking a fine line here. I make it sound as if they are privileged because of their current environment, and while that is somewhat true, it's not what got them there in the first place. Like I said, they are the best of the best. However, that doesn't mean they're the only ones with that kind of talent. While what you said is true, there are also "thousands" on the other side of the argument... people who can play their ass off that do not have the time or money to get any better. I happen to know (very personally) two 30-something age guys, very athletic, got serious about the game later in life, married with kids, job, etc... and they play par golf every time they tee it up, at every course they tee it up at. We've had this discussion over many a beer, and the consensus is that we'd like to have the same deal the PRO's have. I mean hell, it must be nice to just wake up and play golf all day... with the newest shit... on the best courses. My point is that their kind of talent just isn't as rare as you think. There's what, 250-300 guys can play the PGA tour? You mean to tell me that those are the only living people in the US with the talent to play at that level... please. I'd bet that if given the right circumstances there are many more capable of that level of golf. That's all I'm saying.
