Hey guys over the last few years I have transitioned into hitting down and through the ball. After some recent analysis of divots and what not I have determined I have a steeper than normal angle of attack. I tend to take divots with my fairway woods (not very big maybe the size of golf ball). I know Sergio has a steep angle of attack I was just wondering if there is anything wrong with this, and if it will affect my progression. My trajectory is fine I don't have a lot of problems with spinning the ball but I just want to make sure that I am not forming a bad habit. I apologize it is winter and I can't post any swing videos.

Swing drills to do In a back yard without hitting a ball?
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
So what are we talking here? Like a 30 yard pitch? I have about a half acre lot to work with. -
So sometimes I don't feel like going to the driving range after a day of work on the course but I still want to work on my swing for a little bit. What kind of drills do you guys know that I could use and practice with in my back yard by taking full swings? If it matters the main thing I want to improve on is my out of control slice that has developed this year.

Oh ya those distances are with roll, 290 carry would be ridiculous. Honestly I was surprised too as I played the course quite a bit last year and I was consistently hitting a club or two less into the greens. That is definitely true however I golf with a few guys (when we golf its more drinking than golfing) and those guys can pound the ball, mind you we are all fairly young (19-21) and in fairly good shape from hockey. For higher handicaps it can be tough to guess an average distance because of mishits, maybe 1 in every 10-15 drives is straight, the other 9-14 are slices or mishits.

Figure I should update because all of a sudden my distance has greatly increased. After breaking my driver last summer I went and picked up a new one (My current RBZ) and my swing speed was about 107 on average which resulted on a good drive about 275. Now after a winter of hitting the gym my driver distance has increased durastically. Driver: 290 (over 12 drives varrying from 260 into a strong breeze and 330 downwind) 3 W: 270 21 H: 240 4i: 230-240 5i: 220 6i: 210 7i: 190 8i: 175 9i: 165 PW: 155 GW: 140 SW: 125 LW: 105 My irons haven't changed distance alot but my driver is a lot better. If I can drive like I did this past Saturday then I suspect my handicap could drop into the single digits with more practice.

So recently I have gotten a job at one of the top courses in my area and I will be getting free golf there so naturally It will be my new home course. The problem is that this course was built only 4 years ago so the greens play very very hard. My old style of play around the greens was normally to play very high shots and have them roll out a few feet and stop. However I am not sure if this will work around these harder and much faster greens. So what kind of tips can you guys offer for playing on greens that are a lot harder and faster than what I am used to? Will I need to change my greenside play to a more bump and run style?

How far do you hit your clubs?
mosnas replied to SpringBokVol's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Was bored figured yesterday at the range figured I would write down my old numbers and see the difference so hear goes. Driver: 265-270 carry (280-285 roll) 3 Wood: 245 21° hybrid: 215 4 iron: 210 5 iron: 200 6 iron 190 7 iron 175 8 iron 165 9 iron 155 PW 130-150 (most comfortable wedge to use) GW 120 SW 110 LW 100 -
Just my personal experience take it however you like. I bought a driver about 4 years ago and was measuring at about a 94-96mph swing speed. Since then I have started lifting considerably and boosted my current driver speed to a controlled 109mph to a 114mph speed if I put a little more umph into it. I personally don't like the idea of swinging harder to increase your swing speed because with more speed comes more misses and less control with your club. To increase speed I would recommend working out and training, lifting weights in general and eventually you will be able to swing the club around faster without feeling like you are swinging for the fences and out of control.

Alright well due to a golf game down supremely South I am in desperate for any help and am about 2 bad rounds away from completely reworking a swing from the ground up. I have developed an extreme slice with not only my driver but my lower irons as well. The problem Is no matter how much I close my clubface I still slice. And It seems that the further left I aim the more right it goes, this tells me that clearly I am coming across the ball and putting side spin. But Now I have no idea how to fix this problem, This is a problem that has very recently got alot worse and made the game immensely more frustrating seeing how It really got out of hand in the last few months. Last year I was hitting more consistently and when I really hit my stride I was hitting a high fade. Any help or usefull tips or drills you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

looking to buy a new set of irons
mosnas replied to mokoCGC's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree with this guy Ci11 are a great set of irons. If money is no object by all means go for the Titleist, but if you are on a bit of a budget check out some Adams CB or A12 you can probably pick them up for cheaper and they are amazing irons. Long story short try out tons of different clubs and someone of your caliber (or any caliber) will notice the biggest difference if you get fit properly for shaft length and shaft type and model. -
Question about Easy to hit lower irons.
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ok so via an online ad I have an oppertunity to buy a Titleist AP2 712 3 iron. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this or how easy/hard it is to hit. -
Calling all TALL golfers!!! Length of your clubs?
mosnas replied to ryohazuki222's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am 6'2-6'3 I play with my clubs 3/4 inch longer from 4-LW and the lie is bent 1.5 degrees down. The length of your club really depends on your arm length to the floor. I wasn't aware until I got my new clubs fitted how big of a difference this made but now whenever I use a shorter Iron my shots go wayward. Get fitted that should take care of all that. -
Blades or Game Improvement Irons??
mosnas replied to stevenlsmith's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well that really depends, X20 irons are probably my second favorite irons I have ever hit (2nd only to my current set). They offer the best of both worlds with the forgiveness of a SGI but they have a shape that is more similar to Players Irons. To be honest a bad swing is a bad swing, if you hit a SGI with a bad swing the result will not be as good as if you hit it pure. Stick with the X20 irons they are a good club and if you find after a few year your skills greatly improve and you want to start shaping shots or step up to players irons then definately do that. Also if you are looking to really max out your X20 irons get them fitted properly, a proper shaft and length will go a long way and will really help your game. -
Ok What kind of things would help me change this?

Alright so new golf season coming up and with more time and money to spend on improving my game (hopefully to single digits) it is time to address the worst part of my game... the tee shot. I regularly lose about 4 balls/round off the tee and 9 out of 10 times it is from the big stick. The problem? God awful slice. The weird thing is I know it is coming so like most people who deal with a slice they just aim to the left by how much they think it will slice. The problem is no matter how much I aim to the left the ball still slices into the bush. The more I aim to the left the more it goes to the right. I am not one to go out and blame everything on my clubs what so ever but lately I have been really interested in shafts and how they affect everything. So would my driver have anything to do with it? If the flex is not enough will that leave my driver open at impact?

Question about Easy to hit lower irons.
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ya I was wondering what the x forged series were like for forgivability as I have never really hit one before. Are all hybrids made with the same weight in the head? I have tried out a 909 hybrid and the head seemed really heavy. -

Well I suppose I shouldn't knock them I have tried them a few times wasn't a huge fan. My shots I found went too high. -

I know but even hybrids I'm not a huge fan of but I am open to suggestions. -
Hey all golf season is coming up right around the corner (time to end my 8 month long posting drought). Lately I have been looking at updating my woods, and for the amount I use my 5 wood I was thinking about just replacing it with a 3 or 2 iron. My current set is the Adams CB1 4-PW i have no problem hitting the lower irons but I really want to have a lower club then 4 to replace my 5 wood. The only place that it looks like I can by individual irons is Callaway preowned. And seeing how I won't be able to hit them before I buy them I am kind of looking for advice. The reason I dislike hitting 5 wood from the deck is because of head size. I am just not confident enough to get under the ball while still sweeping it off the fairway. Anyways just looking for any suggestions you guys might have on clubs or reviews on 2 or 3 irons of older Callaways.

Driver woes keeping me from enjoying golf
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks for this I don't know if I stated before or not but I have no problem hitting the sweet spot on any clubs. With my driver right now I can hit it where I want on the face without a problem, the problem is clearly in my swing and not where I am hitting the ball. Also at 6'2.5 cutting down a driver 4-5 inches would be uncomfortable as hell Edit: Not too mention it would mess up the stiffness of the shaft considerably (assuming golf shafts are similar to hockey sticks in the stiffness to length ratio) -
Driver woes keeping me from enjoying golf
mosnas replied to mosnas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Unfortunately I already have quite a strong grip -
Ok so I hate doing this (especially cause I don't have access to a video camera) but with the state of my driver game I am out of options. So for some reason the moment I pick up a driver my drives go astray. I tend to hit about 9 out of 10 drives with an extreme slice. The funny thing is if I am further left it goes further right. I have tried closing the club face, all this does is lower the trajectory so it doesnt have time to slice. I also tried bringing my swing back by keeping my elbow straight (thus eliminating the over the top swing) and still nothing. Sorry guys again but I am desperate for any help.

Now a days almost all club companies make good quality equipment. And like others said nike can get any design in any club he wants. Only a poor handyman blames his tools.

Oh ya pot like anything good can have it's downsides for sure and the sooner we stop pretending that just because you can't OD on pot so it is harmless the sooner everyone can take a step forward to accepting it.
