  1. Here is a helpful drill that you can do in your house to help stop coming "over the top." It comes from LPGA Teaching Professional Karen Palacios-Jansen. I have found it very helpful.
  2. To me, its not that 18>14, but Jack held it together for decades. I love watching Tiger and hope he can win a few more majors and be the dominating factor he once was. If he does then I will seriously reconsider, even if he doesn't reach 18. But for now I think Jack is still the greatest.
  3. One of the guys at the local golf shop has the J38 dual pocket cavity irons, and I was able to hit them recently. They felt great. The same shot has a set of J38 cavity backs for sale that have never had a grip put on them. I like the looks of the cavity back better than the dpc, and have thought a lot about buying them. One question - how much would I be giving up in forgiveness going from the dpc to the cavity back? I was pleased with how I hit the dpc, and if the CBs are anything like it I will pull the trigger. Thanks for any help.
  4. 1986 Masters final round (Nicklaus over Norman and Kite) 1975 Masters final round (Nicklaus over Johnny Miller and Tom Weiskopf) Braves-Mets, July 4th 1985, 19 inning game I love Jack Nicklaus, but at the time I was pulling for Weiskopf in 75 and Norman in 86. The Golden Bear broke my heart both of those days. And in the Mets-Braves game, they finished at 5:00 AM the next morning. Since it was the July 4th game it was followed by fireworks. There were many calls to the police that morning that the Russians were bombing Atlanta. (I have two adopted kids from Russia, so I mean no offense to that nation... but at the time we were still in the latter stages of the Cold War)
  5. correction - I meant to say White Steel #1 (instead of Odyssey White Hot).
  6. I am more of a sweeper and don't take much of a divot... would one of the sole designs be more favorable to my kind of swing?
  7. shhhhh! I've been watching those ebay sales this afternoon too. There are some great deals on Bridgestone irons. I'm leaning towards the J33CBs though.
  8. I use the Odyssey White Hot putter that is shaped like a Ping Answer. It is without a doudt the least likely club in my bag to ever be replaced. I love the shape, the weight, but the thing that separates it from the other similar putters is the aiming lines on the back of it. Something about them makes me feel like I will make every putt.
  9. I totally agree with the combo sets. I could get one locally but the J33 combos are pretty ugly. Thanks for the info. This is very helpful.
  10. I may take a chance on either the J33CB or J36CB. I have hit the J38 and J40 and loved them. I would probably like all the Bridgestone irons. Are there any main differences between the 33 and 36?
  11. Several years ago there was a thread "Mizuno Players." A poster rated the MP series regarding their forgiveness in this order: 52s, 57s, 60s, 62s, 32s, 67s, 33s, 14s/29s I thought that was a very interesting list. I would love to hear your current lists now that there are several new additions to the MP family. Thanks in advance!
  12. The Titleist hybrids have adjustable lofts, so you could tweak it until you get the right distance gap dialed in. I'm really thinking about one myself. You can also adjust the lie in case you are a little upright or flat.
  13. I know the AP2 are a little more forgiving the the 712 Cavity backs, but how much control do they have compared to the CBs? When I tried them I got the feeling the AP2s weren't giving up much control for the benefits, but it was a windy day (40 mph right to left) and it was hard to tell for sure.
  14. DrCut - you should probably check Craigslist - I have been surprised by how many good sets of clubs are available locally. Also, there are many clubs just like you described on ebay. Good luck with your search. I'm sorry about your friends clubs, but am glad you're looking out for him.
  15. Elmer - he might be talking about me. I may need to take my index off. I was a single digit handicapper (with old rusty Hogan Apex blades), had to walk away from it because of young kids, now they are into golf and I've started playing again last month. I'm loving my iron play (with cavity backs now) and am easing back to blades by getting a combo set. But I have lost all feel around the greens which is why my handicap is temporarily double digits. That, and I live in west Texas and every time I play the wind is over 20 MPH. I don't compete anymore, but play just for fun with my sons, and a lot of my golf time is spent at the range hitting balls. So I really enjoy blades and the challenge they are to make my swing better. I'm just saying all this because sometimes there are situations where blades aren't unreasonable for double digit handicappers.
  16. Thanks! That is very helpful. Thats interesting that you said that about the blades. I was hitting the 588 blades compared to the Bridgestone cavity backs. I went to the store to try out full cavity back sets, but the pro showed me the 588s. He had only put a grip on a blade, so I tried that and loved it. It felt just as good as the J38 and J40. I'm really thinking about getting the 588 3-6 CB and 7-W MB combo. The more I read, the more it sounds like they were forged by Srixon, which suddenly puts Cleveland on my radar. It has been a long time since I've seen Cleveland irons that I was interested in.
  17. I had a chance to test these irons today, and they felt great. I was hitting them side by side with a Bridgestone J40 and J38. I expected the Bridgestones to feel better, but the 588s held their own. Have any of you tried them yet? I was talking to someone about them, and he thought the 588s may have been forged for Cleveland by Srixon, which if it is true, would explain why they felt so good. Is there any truth to that story?
  18. Has anyone had a chance to compare either of the J40 versions with the J33cb or J36cb? Thanks.
  19. I was at a demo day yesterday. I spent a lot of time with a Titleist rep. He spoke very highly of the Ping guys.
  20. These are great stories. Thanks for letting us know about them.
  21. Hello all. First, I've got to say I love this forum, and really appreciate all the things I've learned. I am a Director of Operations at two free standing Chick-fil-A stores in Lubbock, TX. Its a great company, with great customers, and its a pleasure to work there. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I'm unable to surf the web at work, so all my time here is late at night. Its probably a good thing or else I'd spend way too much time on this site!!
  22. Are there some golf companies that you like to support, even to the point of being glad to pay full price? Not because of status, but because of how they run their business, how they treat customers, how well they support their products, what the company stands for, etc. If so, I would love to hear about them and why you appreciate them so much. Thanks in advance for any replies.
