You're confusing two things: whether I think Jones made the right call or not and whether I think that Jones is ultimately (or even primarily) responsible for the cancellation of the event. The former was no, now that I've read a bit more about it, it becameI don't know - though again, not relevant. And the latter is a solid no. But the two are not the same thing.
-
No, Jones not fighting is the justification Dana gave for cancelling the fight. Dana, in any event, was the one that cancelled the fight. Again, the fighter is only responsible for his performance in the fights he agrees to get involved in. Everything else is NOT his responsibility. Everything else you said might very well be true, but it is besides the point.
-
Just on a simple matter of principle, blaming Jones for UFC 151 being cancelled was obviously wrong. But this article really drives the message home, within the context of fight promotion http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1311586-ufc-151-fallout-fighters-dont-cancel-entire-fight-cards-promoters-do

They tend to always be training anyway, but in different cycles. It kind of messes things up unnecessarily if you're going to break your cycle just on the off chance that you are called to fight.

Dana obviously did NOT put the event together... he cancelled it! I know what you're trying to say, but it doesn't hold. Putting the event together inherently means getting fighters willing to fight on board. He did not do that. Jones played his part, but ultimately Dana is responsible for it. Don't take this as me saying that Jones decision was the best one. He shouldn't be blamed for what he is not responsible for, however. One tangible consequence of Dana's action is that his fighters (even if just Jones) will trust him less. On the other hand, I can't see what was particularly positive about his decision.
-
Even that being the case, Jones is not responsible for anything but his own performance in a fight. Making sure events happen is Dana's responsibility. If Dana wasn't able to get everyone on board, that's Dana's problem. And I don't think men of business would be so petty as to reject a fight and cut off their own nose just to spite someone else.

One thing I really disappointed about is how Dana decided to openly blame Jones for the show's cancellation. We all know that Dana likes to swear. Fine, no bigs. But this just shows the worst lack of professionalism on Dana's part. He's the one responsible for making the show happen, not Jones. It was definitely a bitch move by Jones, but he is entitled to it. Jones came out looking like a wimp, but Dana came out looking like a spoiled little brat. Plus, he most likely lost the trust of his fighters. Now they all know Dana does not have their back.

Well, I'm not, but it's not too hard to imagine the situation.

Yeah, I'll keep updating this with every round I play. It will take a while till I play my next round though. Have to hit the range and the greens for a while till I'm ready to actually hit the course.. coz obviously I was never ready.

The pro at my club replaced the club for free... with what he says is a better club (**** do I know...) That was cool of him. The clubs aren't mine and I will be getting a new set soon for myself. The ones I'm using right now I am borrowing from my school. So, that's that. A lot of my score comes from dumbass hacking, golfing is really exposing my lack of self-control. Also, this is how I am counting penalties, not sure if correctly: if ball disappears, go back to tee, take a penalty stroke and hit again, so that would be 3 strokes just coming out of the tee, and if it later lands on water, that would be 3 more strokes on similar principles... is that correct?

Huh.. my comment was kinda tongue in cheek, but your point is definitely well taken. Makes sense...

Wouldn't go so far as to say Machida has no chance though. Even in the first fight we saw elements of a true contender. It will easily be the toughest fight Machida ever has - eve tougher than the first fight he had against Jones, because now he knows from experience how devastating Jones is - but he does have a legitimate chance.
-
Depends on situation, of course... is it in competition, am I behind, way ahead...? Am I playing by myself?
-
Yea, I'm a little apprehensive to say Machida can match Jones. I mean, he beat Bader... Bader is not top competition - not top 5 at the least, by any means. So yeah he looked good, but it's hard to judge from that fight how he would do his second time around with Jones. Also want to emphasise how awesome Lauzon's submission was. It was so technically impressive... I can't think of better finishes than his was today. I'd put it above Silva's front kick, Hendo's H-bomb on Bisping, or Jones' choke on Machida. It was such a slick finish!
-
Props to Vera. He was able to push Rua, though never really in control. He may have taken round 3 though. Rua only has two speeds it seems: feed or get fed. He doesn't know how to not take hits. Not so sure he has what it takes to challenge Jones though. Oh, and Rua won by TKO round 4
-
Machida put Bader to sleep impressively... man! This is good shit! Bader wasn't in Machida's class, Machida controlled the fight for the whole 6 and 1/2 minutes that it lasted.

UFC on Fox 4. Who's watching? Joe Lozan just got an awesome triangle choke in!

Seeing so many obese people here in the states! What the f**k? Country that needs universal health care the most is the most aprehensive to accept it! And there used to be people saying how universal health care is a bad idea because it would encourage people to be unhealthy... thing that cat's long out the bag!

Golf course in a space station
Kapanda replied to ZeroGVersteeg's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Did you not stop at all to think whether this would actually be worth sharing? Because if you did, I'm glad you made the right decision! That's cool as shit! Do you get paid to come up with stuff like that? -
Has golf gotten more or less popular in the last 10 years?
Kapanda replied to Used2PlayALot's topic in Golf Talk
I certainly believe it got more popular. There are more golf courses around, more people talk about golf, it is going to make a Olympics comeback, the field, I would imagine, got more competitive internationally, more international events have some prestige now... I guess it depends at what level you are talking about. If each of you is talking about your local level, I guess you might be the experts on that. Worldwide, however, not that I am an expert but I would hazard a guess that it is more popular. And the economy has been tanking for four years now... I think that today compared to 2002, golf got more popular. I feel like 2002 was yesterday... am I getting old? -
How did you draw the conclusion that I don't see the severity? I appreciate that last statement in bold. It confirms what is obvious about many here. There is this blatant self-gratifying indignation going on. Anyone who disagrees that Joe Pa should not be hung by the balls is being insensitive to the victims. This idea that affording just treatment even to those culpable shows carelessness towards the victim is absolutely stupid. Not only is that immoral in on itself, it does not follow any line of logic. In any case, the reason why I raised the point that taking away the wins may not have been the correct punishment was because this scandal says nothing about Joe Pa's actual coaching abilities. So the punishment does not fit the crime.
-
This card def was not worth getting out of the house for. Hell, it wasn't worth paying attention to at all - except Riddle's fight. So, lesson learned for me. If it's not a particularly interesting main event, I'll wait till the fights get put on some tube site.
-
Good for you. But there was no need to invoke his personal beliefs. They have no connection whatsoever with the conversation at hand.
-
It seems NCAA vacated Joe Pa's wins from 1998 to 2011. My guess is that they did so not in the name of fairness, but in the name of deterrence. Let any future coach know that if any such a scandal surfaces in the future, it will be dealt with harshly. Unfair on Joe Pa, but it is a good precedent to set IMO. In any case, everyone will know what Joe Pa's record is. With that said, I'm also thinking that it really messes up the record books, which might create unnecessary repercussions for years to come.
