  1. Other than using my dad's clubs when I was young, my first set that were truly mine were the Power Bilt Scotch blade irons that I got in the late 1960's. I am looking for someone I can trust to refurb them to like new condition so I can display them. They are truly a classic set just like the old Rams, McGregors, and Wilson Staffs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Only on the range. A friend of mine has a set with a different shaft than mine. The few times I hit his I could not tell a big difference. I have only played 9 holes with my MB's and l already can tell they are going to be some nice scoring irons. I am sure the Tours are similiar.
  3. Congrats on being 14 and having a love for the game. Good for you. The Ping Eye 2's in my opinion are classic. My son got mine and played for years with them before his entire set was stolen. He is 27 now and they are still his favorites even though he is playing with the Mizuno MP32's now. I am thinking of getting another set just to keep in my room on display since they were my first set of cavity backs. I grew up playing with blades since that was all that was made back then. At age 10 I grew up with the Power Bilt Scotch Blade irons. I still have those. Got them in 1965.
  4. There is a lot to be said about watching other golfers play. You can learn a lot by watching good golfers. It reinforces good postures, good balance, and good swings.
  5. Yes, the i5's definitely are workable. I do like the line of the i10's, but got a great deal on the i5's so these are definitely playable as were my Eye 2+'s years back.
  6. There are a lot of golf widows out there for sure...but I steer away from calling it golf adultry which I don't think you meant that in a negative way by any means. Christmas time does lend itself to saying Merry Christmas to ourselves. Good luck with the Adams hybrid.
  7. Thanks for the observation Scrambles. At age 54 and not playing near as much as I used to the MP32's became a liability on the course from mis-hits and lost distance as a result. The switch to Ping i5's should be a game improvement for me. I finally got a chance to hit the G5 driver I recently bought and really like it as well. But what is really surprising to me is the Ping MB wedges. I have played Cleveland TA for years, but there is a wow factor with these MB's. Now, if I can find more time to play.
  8. I have used GP Tour Velvet cords, then for the past couple of years I switched to the Lamkin Crossline cords which I liked a lot. However, I recently switched to the GP MultiCompound Black/Blue. I really love these and playing golf in Arkansas summers with the hot, humid weather any help in club grip is welcome. Now, if Footjoy would make a glove to hold up in such conditions that would be great.
  9. On Ping.com join the Ping Community and ask that question. I also call them from time to time. They have great customer service and I always like hearing from the horse's mouth on specific Ping questions. Hope that helps.
  10. AHHH, that is when GEAS becomes even stronger.....no money. I see visits to Ebay and the used club barrel at an Edwin Watts. It's ok. The first step to recovery is to admit you have it. Like....Hi, I am Gapwedge. I have GEAS.
  11. I have had the Bushnell Pinseeker since the spring of this year and I can honestly say it has saved me a couple of strokes per round. Since it does not have the slope it is legal for USGA play. Saves time and give accurate info for distances to sandtraps, water hazards, and best of all the pin. You still have to adjust for wind, slope, etc.
  12. Congratulations! Welcome to the G.E.A.S or Golf Equipment Acquisition Syndrome. It bites all of us.

  14. Mine is #3 with sometime a #1 thrown in an emergency. My G5 driver is an example
  15. Sorry NVM...I am new to this site and had a little trouble getting the poll to work. The poll is posted now.
  16. Here is the poll for married men and getting golf equipment for Christmas
  17. If you will notice in the tour tempo book and video there are drills to give you a better swing. Avoid taking the club back too far to the inside on the takeaway is one of the drills it shows. Too far inside and you are left with an over the top downswing. There is more to this book and video than tempo. Like all golf books and videos one has to figure out what they are wanting you to do and gradually work that into your swing. It is no coincidence that all the pros he has timed have a 3:1 ratio in tempo. In other words, their backswings are not as slow as one believes because their tempo make it look so silky and smooth. The old addage take it back low and slow has its benefits to a point. I sound like I am endorsing this book, but I am not. I just find it to be a very interesting point in further learning about the swing.
  18. Revising post to a poll.
  19. Congrats. Give us some feedback on the driver when the weather warms up. Meanwhile, you can go outside in that 10 degree Chicago weather and stripe some Mizuno MP 33 one irons!!
  20. Thanks NYJets. That was what I was trying to convey. You may have a much slower swing, like a 33:11 ratio like Nancy Lopez has now according to that book, but if you look at his examples of average golfers their timing was not 3:1, more like 4 to 5:1. Once is showed them the proper tempo they added 10-20 yards to their 5 iron and increased their club head speed as a result. That was my point.
  21. 14 clubs in the bag??? Dang....I didn't know we could carry that many!!:) LOL
  22. The club arrived yesterday. It appears to be weighed in at D3 according to the tape on the club from Ping. The shaft arrived at 45 1/2 inches with a standard Ping grip. Thanks.
  23. I am not sure I agree with your assessment of the actual amount of time it takes to hit a golf ball is irrelevant . Club head speed is important if one is to compress a golf ball. I feel the 27:9, 24:8, 21:7 camera frame ratios he describes in the book are relevant to swing speeds . If you get a chance watch the video portion of the CD that is in the book. Golfers have been trying to model tour professionals for a long time. Tempo is a part of the process and the pros exibit these ratios which can last anywhere from about .93 to just over 1 second in duration in the ratios mentioned above.
  24. I just picked up a new Ping G5 driver with an Aldila NV65 shaft. I was wondering if anyone knew what the swing weight of the driver would be? I have heard D4.
