I was in a similar position where i liked the weight and stability you get from a mallet but didn't want a putter that big in my bag so went for a blade which had a nice wide base. Similar to those recommending the #9 i would also suggest you look at the 330 or Rossie- i actually went for the Rossie Blade which is kind of inbetween- all good clubs though!! check them out at: http://www.odysseygolf.com/Global/en...ine=WhiteHotXG

i'd like to look at the Tour Edge Exotics but can't see anywhere that seems to stock them in the UK.
-
yeah; i agree. When i use my rescue off the tee i push the tee as far into the ground as possible and it flies every time. I'm going to try and go out tomorrow and hit the PING G10, Cleveland (can't decide on the new launcher or the XLS), and the TM Burner (although i'd like to hit the Cobra but don't want to confuse things with testing too many).

I guess people will tend to pick what they play with but it's useful to hear peoples views and which seem the most popular. Tour Edge seem to get a lot of praise on this site but if i'm honest i'd not really heard of them over here in the UK. Thanks for the advise guess i'm off to hit a few and take it from there. Still interested to hear any other views!! Here's another question- do people find a 3 or 5 wood more useful?
-
I'm using the 2007 Burner Rescue so would probably stick around the same for the fairway- especially as there's some good deals- but i don't want to only consider TM as I've heard good things about the Cleveland and quite liked the PING when i hired a set on holiday.

Recently i've been having a few issues with my driver so have reverted to taking my rescue wood off the tee (TM Burner Rescue) and am hitting it well as i do off the ground. I've been thinking about getting a fairway 3 wood so i can use it more off the tee and when i have longs shots in from the fairway. I've been looking at the Taylormade Burner fairway as everything else i have in my bag is TM- although i've recently used the PING G10 and have also heard good things about the Cleveland Launcher or the Hi-bore XLS. Have any of you guys used either the PING or the Cleveland and which would you recommend. I'm a high handycapper so need something forgiving and easy to hit - any ideas?

Do you really find that new putters make a difference to your game? My driver, hybrids and irons are all good (new) makes but i actually still play with an old Hippo putter i had when i first started playing golf. I admit sometimes my putting is erratic (as is my whole game) but i blame that on me rather than my putter. Should i invest in a new putter or stick with the one in my bag?

Thanks for both your responses; we won't have a car so we will either need to hire one or we'll just take public transport! I've had a look at the website for Van Cortlandt and it doesn't show much but it's definitely a good option- it'll just be good to have a game while we're there, i'll have a look at Dyker Beach now. Any idea what they charge for club rental? Don't worry if you don't know i'll email them- thanks for both of your help!

Hello! I'm going to New York in a few weeks with some friends and our wives and was wondering whether anyone can recommend a good course to maybe get a round at while the ladies shop? We probably wouldn't bring our clubs so would want to rent some, so a reasonably priced course would be good- any recommendations? Thanks!

having looked at this a little more i am now thinking of going for the Cobra Baffler DWS-08. Slightly cheaper than the Burner but more than the Halo's. Luckily i have a registered fitter near-by so i'm going to get myself down there. Have never been fitted for a club before so i'm expecting big results!! :)
-
I was thinking of demoing them but nowhere seems to stock the Halo as it's now the Hi-bore (i think). As you say they're half the price so i could get two different lofts instead of the burner - but should i? Or should i just go for one burner- is there a difference in performance/forgiveness?

I'm relatively new to the game but getting better (slowly). I recently borrowed a rescue wood from a friend and really enjoyed hitting it so figured i'd go out and buy one. (he has the TM Burner graphite stiff shaft) Here's the question- which is the best/most forgiving rescue wood out there? Due to excellent reviews I have been looking at the Cleveland Halo (22degree loft) which is also my budget option (as it's quite cheap since the hi-bore came out), or the Taylormade Rescue Burner (22 degree loft) as my option to match the rest of my bag (as i have an R7 425 and RAC HT irons). Any views on these clubs or others that are better?

i'm in the process of buying one of these and due to the great deals on the 425 i was leaning towards this one. Is there a drastic difference in the two club heads as buying it online i haven't had the chance to see it. I've been to many shops but they only stock the newer superquads/burners which are slightly out of my range for my first driver. Would this be a good choice as a first driver, i recently played golf on holiday using a Ping G5 and was hitting this consistently but this is has a 460cc club head? -
thanks for the advice. Is the 425 head noticeably smaller than the 460? I know people recommend going to a fitter but i've been to around 4 shops and they all only sell the latest models which are obviously far more than i'd want to spend at this time. With the great offers on the r7 425 i was hoping that it's be a good buy to start me off.

I had been recommended the burner but for the extra cost i was looking at the cheaper r7 425 (as my wife's buying it as a Christmas present so will go crazy if i was looking at a circa £200 club - the r7 425 is only £129 at the moment). What do you think about head size- should i be looking for a 460cc or do you think the 425cc ok?

Everton or Chelsea - never mind!!! We all know that "Red is the colour..." (and that's Liverpool before you insult me)

Being relatively new to golf i have only been using irons (Taylormade RAC HT) as i always believed that Drivers/Woods were more difficult to hit. Although; after a recent holiday where i hired a set of Pings (G5) i really enjoyed hitting the driver and have now decided to buy one to improve my game off the tee. I've been recommended the Taylormade R7 425 as it's supposed to be a good (forgiving) club and there are some great deals around at the moment, but i'm unsure as i've also been advised to get a 460cc head. Being a high handycapper i'm looking for something that's forgiving, but will last me whilst i attempt to bring my handycap down. What would you guys advise? Are you a high handycapper and do you use the R7 425 or should i be looking at a 460? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
