  1. You are doing a wonderful thing.
  2. IMO: 1. I think you could answer your first question by choking down on your 4 iron to PW length and hitting some balls with it. 2. Beginners can still choke down on the club and still have a good club when their game improves without needing to re-shaft each club.
  3. Hello All - I'm looking for a not so pricey golf course in Indy. Can you all recommend one? Thanks.
  4. I broke my L1-3 about 15 years ago. I have healed well from it, but I do occasionally have back pain. On occasion I can just move funny, like reaching for something in the kitchen, and get extreme pain. I never have pain when playing golf and my pain seems to be less when I am playing on a regular basis. This is not medical advice, just my observation about my own condition.
  5. It would have been less obstructive, but given the situation I thought playing the provisional and taking my penalty was more fair to the score, yet I still don't feel right about it. exactly! That is the dilemma. I was forced to play a shot that did not abide by the rules. What I did way play my provisional and took my penalty, but I feel cheated out of my score as I believe I could have saved the penalty stroke and scored 2 less on the hole(maybe).
  6. Thanks for the replies. There is nothing on the scorecard. So how do I handle the score/penalty? I almost feel like it is an "outside agent," but I could not replace.
  7. Playing a par 4 today I hit a tee shot that went well right of the fairway. There is building and area where there are some grounds keepers tools and such. At any rate my ball landed in this area which is separated from the fairway and rough by some low hedges, there are no markings, stakes, etc. I knew my tee shot was questionable so I hit a provisional. So I find my ball in the above mentioned area and have a descent shot out to the fairway. I asked a couple of the workers if I could hit my ball and they said OK so I get positioned to swing and a 3rd worker comes out of the building making a fuss and tells me to place my ball on the other side of the hedge and hit from there. What should be done and which rules would be applied?
  8. I've really enjoyed reading all the topics here on the rules forum especially some of the oddball and hypothetical situations. So, I'll add a hypothetical situation to follow up the OP's question: So if you ball lies in a depression as described by the OP next to a sprinkler head. It is located next to the sprinkler so that you could make a swing if hitting the ball toward the green. But "because you would like a better angle to the green" you want to make a swing perpendicular to the direction of the hole thus causing the sprinkler head to be in conflict with your swing. Could you take a releif? If you can, I imagine you would be able to swing toward the green at that time? Thank you for enlightening me.
  9. I was thinking that and posted this last week: Originally Posted by ndb8fxe And what about Aubrey? She seems to have a titch of mental disability to me.
  10. I have left clubs behind, but they have always been found by other golfers and returned. Now if I am going to put clubs down, I always put them between the hole and the cart so I will trip over them if I forget that they are there. I cant believe how much theft there is at the course. I never considered the courses/clubs a high theft area so I never took precautions, but after reading this I probably will.
  11. I'm new to this forum and new to taking this sport seriously. I have been reading TST extensively recently and it seem many of the "controversial" threads like the 'dress code' thread and others posters mention to do certain things for "respect of the game" and wear certain things for "the respect of the game" etc. I'm sure you know of what I am speaking. Is golf an elitist sport? Does it deserve more respect than another sport? Do I belong in this sport? I dress well, follow the rules to the best of my knowledge, etc., but that is beside the point. "For Respect of the Game" kind of strikes a nerve with me. Why does golf deserve more respect than another sport? Like I said before I dress well when I go to the course because I want to, but should someone have to due to "respect of the game?" I couldn't care less what the person I am playing with wears. What is the purpose? Is it a way for golf to remain the "elitist" sport it was in the past? Is it a way for people to feel that they are better than someone else? The solution for me is: 1. Do things for the "respect of yourself", not the "respect of the game". 2. Respect those around you. 3. Respect the people that work hard to maintain the course. In general just respect yourself and those around you. Not just on the course either. The notion that golf as a game deserves more respect than any other sport is silly to me. I, however, do understand that a golfer might require more integrity(due to its self policing) and discipline than other sports. I would appreciate comments from those who might agree and those that disagree. Don't hold back, I fully understand that I will likely get some harsh comments.
  12. Thanks a bunch for everyone's great responses. I guess I'll have to look more closely at the what the benefits of the membership are i.e. unlimited golf, etc. Thanks again.
  13. Thanks for all the replies. My Titleist Vokeys came in a couple of days ago. I ended up with 56*11 and 60*7. I practiced yesterday with them and played today. They are much better than what I had and are much more controllable.
  14. My best round to date. I'm excited, however if this happens often I think for this course I need to move back a tee box. I usually just hit the tee box that the person I get paired up with hits. Date: 05/30/2012 Course: Oriole Golf & Tennis Club Oriole - Margate, Florida... 15. Yea I'm pulling for Selanee and Anya now.
  16. Why do you think the others went after Kelly but the approach shot at 3'3"? I don't believe they think they really had a good chance of beating Kelly's shot. I think they are hungry for air time. I'm kind of glad that Z went home. I didn't care for her bad attitude and "tough girl" demeanor. And what about Aubrey? She seems to have a titch of mental disability to me.
  17. I chose I high draw because its so darn pretty. My standard shot is fairly straight and can draw if I want, however my natural miss is a slice which I hate!
  18. Always shake hands with the hat off for me.
  19. I'm with you. I have to have a watch on to feel normal. My watches have a stainless bands.
  20. This is, of course, a personal issue and I'm sure that you will get many different opinions. My personal view is that when I go to the course I enjoy the fresh air and being outside. I feel that "dipping" is much less offensive than smoking. To me there are few things that are worse than enjoying the outdoors then having to smell someone smoking nearby. There is a gentleman that I have been grouped with a few times recently. He is very pleasant to play with except the fact that he smokes a lot on the course. He has tried to get me to set up times so that we can play together, but I avoid it just because of the smoking. I'd be much more inclined to play with someone dipping and spitting in a cup.
  21. Excellent response. Thank you. Keep them coming!
  22. I am blessed to live in an area that has a plethora of courses. I also travel for a living and bring clubs with me and get to play all over the country/world. I am a budget minded golfer, always looking for the best value in equipment and courses. I've been reading a lot on this site and there are many references to "home" courses and membership to particular clubs. I would love to support one of my local clubs by joining and receiving discounts, however, I am worried about getting bored playing the same course all the time. I really enjoy the challenge of playing a course that I don't "know by the back of my hand" and love the various scenery and challenges offered by different courses. I'm thinking a membership isn't for me, but I'll ask those with memberships: 1) Does your home course ever get "old" or boring? 2) How often do you play a different local course? 3) Do my concerns seem unreasonable? Thanks in advance for your replies.
  23. I shot an 81 last week which was my best round. I find that most days I can have aspects of the game that are great, while other aspects suffer. For instance, if my driving is great my putting is horrible. If my driving is bad, my mid irons might be on. It is really hard to get all aspects of the game lined up at the same time. On my round of 81 my putting was spot on. You know the saying.
  24. I want more than 14, but I know I can't. So here's the dilemma: I've got: Calaway Diablo D, 3w, 5w, which I love. TM Burner 2.0 4-AW, which I also love. old SW and LW that will be replaced. and a putter for a total of 14. The problem is that I have a large gap between my 4 iron and 5 wood. I went to Golfsmith and hit a few 3 hybrids that I feel could bridge that gap between 195(4i) and 220(5w) yards, but I will need to lose a club in order to add the hybrid. Since I'm planning on replacing the SW and LW I'm thinking of replacing with a single club in 58*. I've always like the versatility of having both, but something has got to go. What do you all think?
