  2. New Golfer. :) I don't have many goals that are huge...but some that hopefully will be easy to track: Start hitting the ball semi-consistently straight Break 100 Break 90 Get my own set of clubs, not a hand-me-down set I'll move on to fancier things if I can cross at least 3 out of the 4 off there. :)
  3. Hey all, Just started playing golf this year. Played my first 9 holes last year and last Thursday decided to actually pick the game up. Have my own set of clubs (hand me downs) and currently just working on hitting the ball straight. I've heard a lot about the grip being very important so I think I have that down the most of anything...not a horrible putter, but I can't hit a ball straight to save my life from anywhere else. Now working on making my swing a lot smoother than it is currently. I have a driving range near my house that I'll probably frequent a lot in the coming months. Any tips would be appreciated. I'm 24 by the way and pretty athletic (I usually pick up on sports and games pretty quickly) so hopefully I can progress fast enough to put up a decent score soon.
  4. Just thought I'd chip in -- I didn't like Z much myself but some of the comments on here are a bit overboard. Christina is my favourite.
  5. Quote: a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill. I noticed at the beginning someone had quoted this, but under that same definition you could pretty much classify anything as a sport. I love Golf, but it's a game. It's not like there aren't professional games played everywhere -- Chess, Go, Starcraft, etc. But realistically speaking Golf is a game. I should also just note that this is just my opinion. I don't see much difference in Golf and say something like Bocci Ball or Lawn Darts...even Horseshoes. It's more complex, obviously, and the technology is a lot more advanced but the concept is still the same. I wouldn't consider those games sports, and I don't consider Golf a sport either.
