  1. more wedges, imo, gets you closer to more pins and thats where you score. 5-pw works for me. add a hybrid for the gab between your fw metal and the 5i and go with a 52/56/60 wedge config. you'll thank me later.
  2. ill chime in here. played mp30's for 7 years. ball striking was costing me strokes. i fought it, denied it, ignored it and finally i admitted it. i wasnt a good enough ball striker to play those irons anymore. i switched to mx23's this year. i swapped my rifles 6.0's out of the 30's and put them in the mx23's and ... nirvana. now, no more draw/hook. i can go at pins and even actually be on the right side of a pin for a change. huge monumental change in my game and so far, saving me 3 strokes a round easy and by summer, im sure it will be 5 strokes. could not be happier.
  3. ping. always ping ansers. had an original ping anser. still do actually. then a anser 2. and then an anser g5 and now a redwood anser sits proudly in my bag. scotty basically ripped of karstens original plumbers neck design and changed to solid ss rather than cast. actually bettinardi may have been first. anyway, im a loyal ping guy and a traditionalist of sorts. no crazy star wars looking putters in my bag. and the new redwood has a sick red headcover as well. why anser putters? simple. they flat out work. and why the new redwood? solid, consistent feel with perfect head weighting and awesome balance makes the new redwood anser the best ping putter to date. this putter really is the cameron killer.
  4. whats a 2 iron? i have 2 hybrids for good reason. i cannot hit my 3 very well and the 4 only slightly better but i can smoke my 21* like 230 and my 24* 210. why try to hit an iron (poorly) that far when i can carry the hybrids which are easier to hit higher, better out of the long stuff, and much more consistent. the lowest iron in my bag is 5 !!
  5. love em both 60. i can hit i full from 105 no problem. a smooth 3/4 swing get me 85 yrds. i can use it around greens, bunkers, flop shots. etc. 54. is best from 120-125 and the club i use to chip with the most around the greens. bunker shots with more carry or run. i rarely use my pw unless uphill or long chips with lots of green.
  6. no doubt. oil can or raw. love the rust. soft feel and lots of bite. the uglier the better. in fact, when i play in fla. love the fact that they rust over night. rusty gunk is hard on my golf towels but they work good.

  8. mizuno makes the finest blades. ive hit tm320 and tps and an assortment of titleist but cannot find a better iron than my mp30s . cavity back forged blade for great control. buttery feel, easy to shape and with rifle shafts just the best feeling and looking iron ive hit to date. take a look at the better single digit players at your club, chances are youll see zunos in the bag.
  9. simply outstanding advice. agree completely. 5w is a good choice for exactly your reasons. i carry both a 3wd and 5wd. 3wd off the tee when driver wont work and the 5w as an attack club on short par 5s. i hit the 5 much higher and thus i can get it close to pins. all my eagles are nothing more than 5wds hit pure. great advice!
  10. you guys are gonna laugh. played today in central ny at my home course, beaver meadows. no snow so we play. actually my 3rd round in less than a week. temp at 1030 when we started..... 34! yup. i said 34. shot a smooth 78. 40/38 with 30 putts. only 1 bird today but considering how muddy it was and thus playing long, im happy. made a bunch of long putts today to make up for my less than stellar chipping. won some cash in our 3/2/1 nassau too. quite a few others out today for a nice early jan round of golf. oh and i carried my bag like yer supposed to do when you play real golf. plus it was too muddy for my speed cart 905 9.5* w/ v2 s 904 3wd 15* w/ speeder s tm 200 steel 5w 18* w/ prolite s 585h hyb 21* w/ 4175 s 585h hyb 24* w/ 4175 s miz mp30 5-pw w/ rifle 6.0 vokey 54* spinmill vokey 60* raw ping g5 anser 34" pro v X miz aerolite tour standbag
  11. i have played both shafts extensively. my 983k 9.5* had the aldila nv65s- the green shaft and my current driver 905r 9.5* has the 66 gram v2 s. the nv plays very stiff, almost x stiff. more than one club fitter has said that most single digit players should not play that shaft. its to tough to hit consistently with slower swing speeds. it has a higher kick point so i struggled to hit the ball in the air. my launch angle was consistently 10-11 and i had a hard time feeling like my swing generated enough speed to really flex that shaft. and my driver speed is like 107-110. my misses were low power draws- hooks. when i hit it good and it was dry, i would hit my draw and i would get 30 yrds of top spin roll but many times out of the fw into the tall stuff. i never got a nice high ball flight though and that cost me big time. after 2 yrs of that shaft i finally said enough. i got fitted for my 905 and after looking at many shafts i settled on the v2 stiff and could not be happier. first, the 66 gram v2 is way better to get the ball up. its lighter weight, compared to the 77 gram v2 that comes with most stock drivers. the ligher weight works for me and i can really gernerate more speed. the v2 has a lower kick point as well and that gets the ball to jump at 13 * for me which is ideal for my swing speed. i can feel this shaft flex and i know the shaft is is giving me that extra snap that i need to get the ball airborn and carry it farther. its also very accurate. i hit way more fairways now since my ball flight is higher the ball does roll less and stops in the fw. bottom line, for me, the v2 is the best combination of flex, launch angle, accuray and weight for my swing. get fitted though, for sure. it makes a world of difference. 905 9.5* w/ v2 s 904 3wd 15* w/ speeder s tm 200 steel 5w 18* w/ prolite s 585h hyb 21* w/ 4175 s 585h hyb 24* w/ 4175 s miz mp30 5-pw w/ rifle 6.0 vokey 54* spinmill vokey 60* raw ping redwood anser 34" pro v X miz aerolite tour standbag
  12. after years of carrying a 47pw 52, 56 and 60 i went to the 54/60 configuration and havent looked back. dropping that extra wedge has allowed me to keep both my 3wd and 5wd and have the 21* and 24* hybrids in the bag. i had the yardages dialed in before from 140-90 with 4 wedges but now its a bit tougher and takes a little more shot making and swing adjustment to cover that same yardage with 3 wedges rather than 4 ________________________________ 905 9.5* w/ v2 s 904 3wd 15* w/ speeder s tm 200 steel 5w 18* w/ prolite s 585h hyb 21* w/ 4175 s 585h hyb 24* w/ 4175 s miz mp30 5-pw w/ rifle 6.0 vokey 54* spinmill vokey 60* raw ping redwood anser 34" pro v X miz aerolite tour standbag
