  1. Okay, so you hit the ball about 20 feet from the pin, how do you handle this situation? Right now, I usually get an iron [7 or 8 iron] and have my hands holding the club so that the club head is behind my wrists. I come down onto the ball with a putter like swing, not sure if that's making sense. Anyway the club head hits the ball and it pops up into the air a little with a 6 or 7' roll maybe. I have a buddy that gets a sandwedge and just pivots [no arm swinging] his wrists to pop the ball into the air and land [hopefully] on the green. Just curious what other techniques are out there. My tee time is at 11:30am and I figured I'd get there an hour early to practice my short game.
  2. Rory McIlroy, the guy has the nicest technique when he swings, it's a thing of beauty!
  3. I play to get a nice tan, get outdoors and hear the birds, hang out with my buddies and just have a great time. Whether I ever become a scratch golfer is entirely irrelevant.
  4. I like my Cobra AMP driver but I love my Callaway 7 iron. Love hitting the green from over 100 yards.
  5. I just bought the Cobra Amp today at Dicks and was blown away. Now I haven't hit tons of drivers but this sucker launched the ball and it felt so good. Now I also modified my setup with the driver today after watching a video on youtube. My drives were right down the fairway [or not far to the right] and distance was excellent. I even like the sound it makes, my Nike Sumo sounded like I was hitting the ball with a iron skillet.
  6. Advil!!! I've got to do the same, I tweaked my back the one day and had to deal with it for 13 holes.
  7. I made a par putt this weekend after hitting the ball into the bunker on my second shot. I actually think there's a lot of room for error in golf...just not on the green. Maybe in context, that's what this person was saying.
  8. Keep the hole the way it is. I want the game frustrating and hard....accomplishing the next milestone is just that much more rewarding.
  9. When it's super sunny and you didn't get a tan [always under trees for those who don't get it]
  10. Prison grade narcotics, car keys, phone, can of Off! pest repellent.
  11. I know exactly what you're talking about. The last time I played I started off miserable. I knew that my frustration was starting to surface and affect my game. I just took a couple deep breaths and went through my swing routine in my head. The next shot I made was a nice one, it brought me back into the game.
  12. You know I've temporarily abandoned the 3 wood in favor of a hybrid until I can get more practice at the range. I just can't seem to get nice solid contact with a 3 wood off the deck.
  13. I tee off when I know I won't hit them and even if I doubt they'll hear my ball.
  14. Jesus Christ what is wrong with people? I really don't like slow play myself but I don't get so bent out of shape. Drink more beer and listen to the birds sing.
  15. I don't mind practicing on mats but I don't like it when the plastic fibers gets melted onto the bottom of my irons.
  16. I was playing 9 lastnight and I was playing near some houses along the side of the course. I see this dude running down the edge of the next fairway chasing after his puppy. I'm thinking "what the hell" then I realize there's a squirrel in front of the dog running for it's life. Then later on, I see some old retired guy walking his dogs across the fairway, once again I'm thinking "what the **** is going on!" I didn't have the heart to yell at an old man so I just waited.
  17. I'm the same way, give me a 7 - sandwedge any day but give me a 4 iron and I start to sweat a little.
  18. Take a look at this video. I think it's one of the better out there for a good sound iron swing. Hopefully this helps, it did for me.
  19. Don't worry, this happened to me not recently. I literally felt like I was back at day 1 for a day. I was at the driving range lastnight and today at lunch...nice stroke, follow through and made some nice shots. So having a really bad day doesn't mean anything more than you had a bad day. I recommend you take your best club [the one you're most comfortable with] and go to the range. Key in on these items while you hit the balls: 1. Don't kill the ball, let the club do the work 2. Relax. Have fun, don't choke the club, have a nice easy grip 3. Try to start with nice easy fundamnentally sound swings. Who cares how far you hit it Doing this may help you get some confidence back.
  20. Next year I'm going to plop down $299 for the unlimited driving range membership. There's a driving range about 8 - 10 min from my house. I need to be at the range every other day if not every day. I think I'm starting to get obsessed about this damn game. People are going to hear me at the range "Yessss my precious...."
  21. I went to the driving range lastnight and I'm seeing some progress. I'm definitely getting the weight shifted to my back heel on my back swing. Making sure I don't shift my BODY when I do this. I'm slowly getting to where I can shift the weight on the swing and follow through. I was using the 7 iron and I swear I'm hitting it farther than I was before. I purchased 3 lessons from a driving range that focuses on training people http://www.bumblebeehollow.com/about.html I used one lesson last weekend. I'm going to use the last two lessons on my putting and chipping. I feel like I'm getting more and more comfortable with my irons. I still need lots of work with the woods and driver. My son will be driving next year and I think I'll have more freedom. If I can get my short game tightened up a good bit I may consider signing up for the AM Tour.
  22. It's funny but I have a bigger temper at the range than I do at the course. I cuss a little when I'm out on the course but I don't throw anything or have a tantrum.
  23. Well the truth is, I'm not real accurate with my driver yet but the good news is I don't have a slice or a hook. My drives are going straight just not down the pike, they tend to zone in on a tree somewhere along the way and head right for it.
  24. I'm working on the following items: 1. Follow through - I have a tendency to stop my swing and not allowing the momentum to bring the club up around my body. 2. Weight shifting - I'm learning to get the weight to my right heel during backswing and then starting to shift my weight just before the beginning of my swing.
  25. Around 250 via GPS. I don't have any trackman stats.
