There is a pawn shop in my town that gets golf balls from a guy who goes around and find them. The pawn shop sells them cheap. I can get a dozen pro V1's for $15. I've used them several times. For where my game is at right now they're great. Now, I will be getting some new balls for an upcoming tournament, but for my usual weekend rounds, the pawn shop balls are working just fine. I'm actually playing the NXT Tour, I get them for $7 a dozen.

Played at the Hugo Golf Club (home course) 69.4/117 - shot an 86. This, so far, is my personal best. I can really tell that practicing my short game helps a lot. Had a few holes that I just flat lost my mind on. My driving was well and putting got better through the morning. I'll keep plugging along.....

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Jeffrey71 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Where I live there are no golf stores so I do a lot of purchases online. Golfsmith was the last, bought Nike Vapor balls (1 dozen), tees, 3 gloves, regrooving tool (which works great). I'm currently watching Laser range finders on e-bay. -
Instruction resources on television

School of Golf with Martin Hall is very informative, plus they have a pretty woman too, Holly Sonders. -
Got fed up this weekend with how slack I've gotten about practicing. There's no way I'm gonna make any real progress by playing 9 or 18 once a week. Started today - Hit 135 balls at a 4' ring from 30 yards (I measured it out) I would hit about 20-25 with my 48*, then 52*, then 56*. I was focusing mostly on ball striking.

Don't quote me here, but I believe that as soon as the amateur accepts the $10,000 he gives up his am status and it would take a year of playing as an am to get it back.

Welder/ Fabricator at Southwest Fabricators, they make over head feed bins for cattle feed or whatever. I am also a licensed plumbing contractor. When I moved to this area of Oklahoma I started my own business, it went well for a couple years, then just died down. With 2 kids starting college I needed to do something. So a friend of my step dad gave me a chance. Been with them a year in September. Love the steady paycheck and not having my phone blow up all the time. This area is very economically oppressed, so my wife and I are trying real hard to get our feet back on the ground so we can move back to the city (OKC) or maybe relocate to Colorado Springs, CO.

I just bought a used Cleveland 56* for $20 from the pro shop at my home course. About 2 years ago I got a Vokey 52* off ebay, with shipping it came to right at $50. Inexpensive wedges are out there.

Played a different 9 hole course today (35.5/106) twice. Our town only has 2 nine hole courses and I don't normally play this one. Shot a 48 the first time through and a 45 the second time through. A total of 93. This is the first time in 2 weeks that I've been able to play. I've been down all week with a pretty bad cold/fever. I've only worked 3 days and this is the most activity I've had all week. The first nine was truly "warming up".(I did comply with the rules) I couldn't leave on a 48 though (call me vain) so I played again. I hit 6/9 fairways, which is great for me. I could really tell my ball striking has suffered through not hitting any balls this week. My home course is having their "club championship" in 2 weeks. It's a 2 day 36 hole tournament, flighted by handicap. I would like to do my best, also I'm getting tired of just wanting to do better at this game. I feel that with some consistent practice I could really make a good showing and make a good breakthrough in my game. So far my lowest score has been an 87. I'm ready to take it a step or two farther, I want to break 80. I know I can do it, I just keep pussin out when it comes to practice. I have the equipment, I know the drills, I have the time, and the weather is starting to cool down a bit. I'm DONE with excuses! I'm gonna cut my grass down this afternoon and get down to business......

I usually have trouble judging the distance.
-
I usually play by myself. I really like to go when I know there won't be a lot of other people, usually I take advantage of the local twilight rates. I can start at 5 and get 18 done by 8:30.

Congrats! I love to walk. I tried carrying my bag a few times and it wore me out. I got an old pull cart from my mom which I had to build a frame for because my bag wouldn't stay on it. I'm looking at a few different push carts myself. Now that our weather is starting to cool off I'll start walking again. I just can't bring myself to walk when the temp is over 95* .

TaylorMade Penta vs Titleist Pro V1
Jeffrey71 replied to bigbear43's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
At what point should someone consider going to a premium "tour" ball? I have used the penta, V1, and V1x just see what they were like and realized real quick that I have no business with such a responsive ball until I can get my game off the tee and on the fairway more consistent. -
10 minutes on the elliptical - 3 sets of 15 roman twists - 3 sets of 15 trunk twist raises - 3 sets of 15 lat pull downs at 55lbs. - 3 sets of 15 forearm curls with 20lbs. - 1set of 15 lunges - 15 minutes on elliptical.

What ball(s) is in your bag?
Jeffrey71 replied to CentralFC's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
A friend suggested Nike Vapor so I tried them. I liked them pretty well. Recently I played Titleist NXT tour, they were pretty good too. I tried to play Pro V's, the distance was great and I like what they did on the greens, but I'm just not ready for that caliber of ball. I'm still learning to finish with the same ball I started with....LOL. -
My home course is having their annual club championship in a couple weeks. The entry fee is $100. That includes - practice round, greens fee for 2 day tournament (36 holes), cart fee, and lunch. They want to flight the tournament by handicap which is cool, but I have a good feeling that a whole lot of people will be sandbagging. I'm considering playing in it just for the experience of playing in a true, stroke play tournament. I've played in some best ball team scramble things and I just don't care for them. Any thoughts.....

So back in January I got fed up with being 5' 6 3/4" and 237 lbs. My wife and I joined a gym, I started to change my eating habits, and in February took up golf again. I didn't realize at the time that I would be where I'm at today. I weighed in at 205 yesterday and this past week and the guy that manages our gym has said he will help me "train" for golf fitness. I told him of my hopes and plans for possibly competing and hopefully contending in some of the more popular state am tournaments. He's on board with helping me. We have a year to get me physically ready and to get my golf game to a solid state. This past week I've gone everyday and done at least 25 minutes/ 2 miles on an eliptical machine. I've also been to the driving range more. This next week I'll being a exercise routine specific for golf as well as some yoga. I'm enthusiastic about it.

Just wondering if anyone else has been watching the 2012 U.S. Amateur. Personally, I would like to get my HC down to the point where I could play, and even possibly contend in some state am competitions and even try to qualify for the US am tournament. Any comments?

I like charlie on the golf funny video show.....

If I'm playing that day I'll only hit about 20 at most. But as far as practice goes I'll get a large basket (about 75 for $7.00). I can only do this once a week right now. This price seems expensive to me, but it's all we have around here. I can practice my short shots (120yds and in) around my house with my own collection of shag balls. I mainly practice 7 iron thru 4, 3 and 5 wood, and driver at the range.
